Forza 4 |OT| Where Porsche Are Driven

It took me a lap to get used to it, because for some reason I locked the brakes up quite easily under heavy braking, but after I got the hang of it I was flying with this thing.

Yeah, I think I might have cranked up the braking force a bit too much. It was back when I was experimenting with higher braking force to see how that affected different cars.

So I posted over in the 'What Game Do You Suck At' thread, and it was recommended that I ask here.

I am horrible at Forza 4 when racing online, and I don't know why. I got my first Xbox 360 last week, I know I'm late to the party, but my wife and I are young and not exactly swimming in money. I got Forza 4 with it.

I stay on track fine. I manage four stars (or whatever your call them) on a good number of corners most laps, and I routinely come in first when racing against AI. If not first at least towards the top.

When racing online though, I do not know what I am doing wrong. I am five seconds or more off the fastest laps of everyone I am racing against. I tried downloading popular setups in the classes I like (mostly E and C, plus a little B), and it helped a little but not much.

I race on a modified version of the medium setting with full racing line, traction and stability control off but ABS on.

In larger races, I am generally not last, but always in the lower half of the pack (say 10 or 11 out of 16). Last night when racing, the person ahead of me would be three seconds a lap faster, but the person behind me would be two seconds a lap slower. So I am apparently not totally incompetent, just mostly.

I love racing, and I find the game fun. But it is almost emasculating to want to do better but not be able and not know how to.

What am I doing wrong?

Are you in a car club? join ours!

Simply by racing people and you will get better. In the meantime, learn about racing lines (and you may discover that you disagree with the choices the Forza line makes).

Learn to drive with the manual with clutch setting (put the clutch on 'A' if using pad! you do this by swapping handbrake and clutch in 'my profile') and you will have an acceleration advantage.

It doesn't have to be anything you're doing wrong.. some of those guys are just THAT fast, practice really is all you can do

50 Days of (Green) Hell Day 30 - TVR Sagaris

There is really nothing I can say about this car that hasn't already been said (better) by Jeremy Clarkson. Just sit back and watch this: Top Gear TVR Sagaris car review Also be sure to look for H3RTZ's awesome livery at the start.

50 Days of (Green) Hell Guest Drive 27 - Honda #33 Level 5 Motorsports Lola

Watch for Dead Poul to almost lose it halfway in and then start driving like a goddam madman.

Dat Honda was being very twitchy as soon as i came off the line. Seriously wanted to slap that bitch around for a while after the race. But I WILL say this: I have never encountered a car that I could drive so BRUTALLY and it just bends to my will. Seriously, driving this car around the 'Ring, albeit bittersweet because of inaccuracies, was the closest I have come to pure driving bliss. F50 GT dethroned.

Edit:

Holy shit, I was really upset!!! LOL, I tapped some inner chi after that recovery!

What do I need to do to join the Neogaf league? I've seen the posts with the Miata that you guys race, and it looks like fun.

Search for the NeoGAF club and apply to join, simple as that ;) . There should be a few spots open.

Also, I tend to suggest this alot but try the Turn 10 Select > Cycled Production races, then you'll at least know it's not the car's fault (everyone drives the same car with stock setup). I personally love racing in that ladder :p .

I love Cycled Production, it's the only mode I play online.

Speaking of online, I ran into my first real idiot today. Guy thought I was cheating because I was lagging (he was American by the sound of him, and with me being in New Zealand on a mediocre connection of course there is going to be lag). I was doing well, so for some reason he came to the conclusion that me lagging = an unfair advantage. I stayed with that group for a few races, but then he managed to convince 3 or 4 other people that I was a cheater and they all proceeded to try and wreck me. I ended up just quitting, no time for that bullshit.

50 Days of (Green) Hell Day 31 - Ultima GTR

This car is a bit of an oddity. The only real way I could describe it is "inconsistent." One minute you are taking corners faster than you would have ever guessed, and the next time you start to understeer right off the road. I just felt like I was constantly having to guess the best way to take each corner because I just couldn't feel the cars personality. Plus it is fairly twitchy, so that made this lap probably slower than it should have been.

50 Days of (Green) Hell Guest Drive 28 - #3 Peugeot Talbot Sport 905

Here is Mc Kane driving of my favorite Group C cars ever. Such an awesome car with a cockpit view that makes you realize how claustrophobic it must have been for those old drivers.

This thing is a fucking flying machine. Faster than my 330ci, especially overtaking between 50-80mph. Absolutely love it!

GODDAM!!! I want one now! That thing is incredible looking!

Factory Spec: 4.9 V8, 4 bolt main block, high lift cam, high flow heads, roller rockers, twin throttle body intake manifold, Borg Warner T5 5 speed transmission, ventilated HD 4 wheel disc brakes, LSD diff rated at 180 KW.

My particular car though, has been modified even further with a 355 stroker kit, aggressive lift cam..etc to produce 295 rwkw or just under 400 HP at the wheels.....a lively car indeed.

Holy shit, man. As a fellow Aussie and part-time bogan, I'm a bit jealous. She's no fully-sick VL Calais turbo but she's a shweet look ride, moit. Can I ask how much it set you back?

But seriously, before that, we need to have to Ford equivalent of all the Commodores that have appeared in FM4 first. I'm talking this:
ck8qp.jpg

The lack of any recent Falcons (Supercars hardly count) is a massive disappointment.

Saladine, dude.

That's incredible, is it a ridgey-didge Walky or just a 'Tupperware' spec VL?

There aren't too many of them around in that condition, which is why I asked whether its legit.

Would have set you back a pretty penny... But at least it's got a bath-tub attached to the boot if you ever need it :)

Now, I just need to find an LC GTR in the same condition your Walky is, and we can send them over to T10 together!

I was really hoping they were going to expand their Aussie collection after finding out they were including the XB falcon. Shame really.

^^ Yup. Like I said, it's a massive shame they haven't included any even remotely recent Falcons in their lineup. Not counting the Supercars, of course.

Of the same era and similar spec, I actually prefer the EB GT. Looks a lot nicer IMO:

But of course, nowhere near as iconic.

PS. Yup, I'm a Falcon guy.

How many of you guys have the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 (unicorn) and would be interested in getting paint for it? I was thinking about making some limited edition paint, let's say 15 only but not sure if anyone would be interested ;)

Also, do we have any British guys being active in here? I would really use some help from British person. Please send me private message if you British and willing to help, nothing major and won't take long ;)

Cheers, HD

Speaking of cars, I still want this...

50 Days of (Green) Hell Day 32 - Volvo 850 R

I have always wanted these cars as they really are the definition of sleeper. Bigger turbo, some suspension work and a chip and you got one fast wagon! They are just so understated and yet incredibly quick. I might be biased (most definitely) but this car was a blast to throw around the ring. It keeps tempting you try each corner faster, letting you know it is probably a better car than you are a driver. It just feels so good to run around the Ring in a wagon, even if it tends to understeer a bit. Just a fun car to thrash.

It's an original Walky build no.4xx.

I'm actually lucky. I got the car for a good price compared to what everyone's asking for them these days. I can't believe that they actually reached the $150,000 plus mark a couple of years back. Suffice it to say, I payed under the $100,000 mark..:)

Yep, a Torana, Falcon GT or Monaro would be a fucking treat if included in FM4. Still waiting Turn 10....still waiting...

oh, and that turbocharged FJ is incredible!
Don't see many PV versions of those cars..

Hey guys, I'm very LTTP on this game, but I've been enjoying it!

So 2 things, really...

Is it likely that we will see any track packs? I'm all for cars and everything, but would love some new tracks.

The other thing is that I know I missed the boat on the GAF car trading thing, but was wondering if anyone had the following that they could gift to me, of course I would return them to the original owner(s) afterwards :)

• 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO
• 1957 Ferrari 250 TR
• 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona
• 1958 Aston Martin DBR1

sent out the gto, tr, and cobra. i think guest1321 has you covered for the dbr1.

I'm sure you could find many other candidates for FM in his collection though, guy clearly has awesome taste in cars ('62 250 GTO + F1 LM combo is already instant win IMO).
I was already as excited as a kid during Christmas when seeing a small part of his collection in Paris, I can't imagine what it'd be like, getting full access to his collection...

50 Days of (Green) Hell Day 33 - Bentley Speed 8

I just had to eventually drive this piece of racing history. Who else but Bentley would come back to racing, after dominating pre-war, after 73 years. But not only that, but to work on a car for 2 years and then win at Le Mans (1 and 2) with final version. Oh, and then to leave racing again after such a feat. This car is quicker than I am, honestly. It was more capable of a car than I am a driver and it was so great to run on The Ring. The way it takes corners is unreal and it just feels constantly glued to the track.

50 Days of (Green) Hell Guest Drive 30 - R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec

Naughty pics of porn

Amazing machines right there.

AutoVista was a great attempt to give cars a 'human' feel to them. In racing games, it's hard to really appreciate the finer details of a car, the subtleties as it were.
I mean, generally, we tend to just jump in and race a car but we can't actually feel, hear, see everything that makes a certain car appealing or special no matter what it is, from a factory spec Datsun 510 to a Zonda Huayra.

I'm hoping for an even better experience that can make me more connected to a car, more appreciative of the nuances associated with it. How Turn 10 can achieve that I'm not sure.
Although, one thing I would like to see that can add to the aforementioned is a sort of bio of each car. As Turn 10 did added bio's for car manufacturers, I would like to see the same treatment extended to the cars themselves as well. I guess that would be a start..

G Rom

Member
I really like the car manufacturers bios too. Ilike the description for all the cars and the museum cards that GT5 has as well.
I think the AV experience could be improved by going beyond the technical aspect. While I like the Peter Egan stuff, I'd also like anecdotes, development stories, etc... that only Clarkson barely mentions.
What I would absolutely love though is an Autovista treatment for tracks on the next Xbox. Give me greatly detailed tracks that you can free roam with stories, history, etc..., some told by drivers that raced there.
One dream that I have though is that they would even go as far as recreating mythical motorsport events that happened at those tracks.
To give an example (which would be impossible due to licensing at the moment), you would be able to see the mythical Hakkinën pass on Schumacher at Spa GP 1999 in the game with commentators from the live feed of that time.
Another (and more feasible example) would the incredible GT2 finish of the 2007 12h of Sebring.
They could essentially "remake" those incredible moments in full HD glory.

It would be very time consuming in term of development, although maybe that way we would finally ditch the glass smooth track in favor of realistic bumpiness. :D

BTW, even TDU2 got the '62 GTO as DLC...

No chance. I hear Dan Greenawalt is paying an army underage chinese children to sand down real life tracks so they match Forza's.

I get what G Rom is trying to say. Something along the lines of what EA did with the Fight Night series. You know, Ali vs Foreman battling in the last rounds or something.

The thing is though, while that sounds fantastic for us players, i'm not sure Turn 10(read- Greenawalt) would want to go that route.
It seems they are content on being just a driving game/car game on do not want to expand, grow, innovate, delve into a more racing orientated game, which is fine, they can do whatever they want.
But in order to steal the thunder from all, in order to have an edge over everyone else, in order for Forza not to stagnate, ideas like G Rom's need to be taken into consideration.
Then again, it's a double edged sword isn't it?
Try and offer something fresh, the purists would be up in arms. Keep the same old formula, risk being stale and stagnant.....

lol, wouldn't surprise me one bit..

I'll never understand why the excellent unevenness of the Nurb F1 track surface - FM3 DLC - wasn't carried forward into FM4 tracks, even the brand new ones.
That was definitely a retrogressive step, and an opportunity missed.

Dan said they gave all the tracks an extra layer of bumpiness but it's only really noticable in the cockpit movement, nothing comes through in the force feedback or handling.

Anyone else having trouble logging into the FM.net forums? It keeps telling me I have to use my GamerTag and then it won't accept that I have one.

Same here, and from what I've seen a lot of people have the same problem. Snowowl said they are working on fix for the problem so hopefully everything will get back to normal soon.
