"Forza Horizon 2 Is The Project Gotham Racing Game You've Been Waiting For"

No. It is the Forza Horizon sequel I've been waiting for. :)

It does kind of fill the void left by the PGR franchise's demise though.

I get more of a test drive unlimited 2 vibe but maybe that's just me?

(I LOVED TDU2 by the way)

Aside from the open world, the games are really different. Now The Crew is the one that is basically a TDU2 spiritual succesor. I'm a big fan of that series too by the way.

A lot of what I'm hearing about DriveClub seems to suggest that it is a PGR successor.

Two PGR successors?

Glad to be a multi console owner.

Get ready to be disappointed.
None of them are looking close to the PGR games.
For one thing, there are no city tracks & racing is on long boring straights & not on twisty. tight grid like streets.

DriveClub looks to be more of a spiritual PGR successor than Horizon 2, which is seems to be a tad more Need for Speed or Midnight Club if anything, with the crazy off road stuff, following trains and planes, on-coming traffic, doing jumps and all the rest. PGR was never that random, nor was it ever open world.

Not really. I've played both #DC! and FH2 (and 1) and every PGR since MSR and I don't see it.

I said this about #DriveClub! back in July:

Having played [DC] at the last two E3's I gotta say I don't really see where the PGR comparisons are coming from (as a fan since Metropolis Street Racing). If anything, Horizon 1 (and 2 from what little I played) are much more PGR-y in gameplay feel, points-racking fun, and overall spirit than DC.

I stand by that. And did you know you could unlock entire cities in PGR and free roam all the roads?

Yup, I feel they've got it ass backwards here. DriveClub, apart from the city street racing, is pretty much exactly what I'd expect out of a PGR game, both in terms of handling model but also style of action and an emphasis on making things very pretty.

Horizon is more like Test Drive Unlimited, but even then, I wouldn't really say Horizon is a 'spiritual successor' to anything. Its just a massively improved sequel to Horizon 1, which kind of paved its own path by merging the established Forza franchise with an open-world game design.

This is what I was thinking. Horizon seems like it was capitalizing on a bit of the Test Drive Unlimited potential, but more than anything was about the Forza brand expanding past sim customers.

DRIVECLUB not only shares former PGR developers, but also seems to actually call for the comparison.

That's exactly how it happened as well. There was a lot of feedback in the Forza 2/Forza 3 days about how people would love the car selection, customization and handling of Forza, but in an open-world design. And Test Drive Unlimited was often named in particular, "Oh how great would TDU be with Forza physics?" and whatnot.

Horizon was pretty clearly born from that feedback. I know Microsoft gets a lot of flak, much of it deserved, but they do have their ears open.

I spotted it instantly, which is why I mentioned it.

Maybe the lower quality of it being on youtube makes it look worse than it actually is, not sure.

The Twitch stream they did at GamesCom showed quite a bit of the biggest city, right at the start. Looks to be pretty decently-sized. Definitely seems bigger than the main town in Horizon 1.

The rest of it's a good watch too, if you haven't seen it already.

Great watch. Strongly reminds me Metropolis Street Racer

Thanks.

The skill points are quite similar but theres a fundametal difference, in PGR you werent rewarded for crashing to touching objects, so keeping combos took a lot of skill, in Forza Horizon you can get points for destroying objects which makes combos real easy to achieve.

Well i am sure they will be the closest thing to PGR right now anyway. Maybe not 1.1 PGR but the "DNA" if you will is in both games. In a perfect world the remnants of Bizzarre in Evolution, Playground and Lucid games could come together in a collaboration for PGR5 and all would be right with the world. But alas it can never be....

Since when did PGR have open world racing (design) with many different routes to accomplish or reach a goal.

Drive club looks more a spiritual successor if snything with closed tight circuit battles that puts an emphasis on driving style. Not to say Forza Horizon 2 doesnt do the same. They both reward style but one certainly has more of a look to a PGR title than the other and imo its not Horizon 2. One could say FH2 is an evolution on Test Drive Unlimited and maybe a spiritual successor to that game.

This was the best for Bulldog. My gosh man.

Memories pouring back ;,,,,,,)

Anyways, in FH1, I got PGR vibes when I had to race in the populated "more urban" areas. From the gameplay trailers, it looks like the cities will be bigger in FH2 I guess. I haven't seen any urban DC track though yet.

Everyone suddenly loves PGR now.

Where were you when PGR4 sold like 38k it's opening month?

What? I'm pretty sure every entry sold around 1-2 million. I've bought every entry since PGR1. It is the only racing series that I can say I LOVE and not just like. If Forza Horizon 2 is anything like PGR in the demo next week I'll be there day 1.

I wouldn't really agree. While it's true that you get skill points for crashing into destructible objects, as soon as you crash into a railing or any substantial object, such as other cars, the points are discarded. So while destructible objects make score chaining easier, incoming traffic balances things out.

Keeping a combo going like this (and with an AWD car, no less), can take a lot of skill.

i felt horizon 1 could give off some serious pgr vibes so i'm not surprised this takes it a bit further. absolutely cant wait, probably my goty 2014

PGR 4 was a bomb, I bought it day one but the mass majority of 360 owners looked past it.

Oh okay I did some research and it does seem like PGR4 did underperform initially compared to previous entries. However, I'm sure a lot of that had to do with them releasing it only a week after Halo 3.

Regardless, I'm not sure why people are acting like PGR isn't a loved or quality series. If they weren't then Evolution and Playground wouldn't be trying to compare their games to them.

And I know they're not the best source, but according to wiki PGR as a series has sold 7 million+. I'm not sure if one of you guys have better figures then that, but the point remains it was a great and beloved series.

I'm guessing it's safe to assume the physics and driving model will be pretty similar to FH1? I love PGR and arcade racers, but FH1 was too "Forza 3 on Arcade settings" for me instead of feeling like an arcade racer. Couldn't get into it, which is keeping my excitement low for FH2 even though it looks great visually and content-wise.

Yea I'm assuming it will still retains some sim-ish aspects like the first game, which I personally love.
