I’m really enjoying my time with the game, but I do find the amount of options and modes overwhelming. I joined an eliminator mode and literally didn’t have a clue what I was doing! Then you have the npc’s constantly asking you to do this and do that, go here and go there - honestly, my map is already peppered with races and god knows what. I’d have personally preferred a more slow and steady progression system. This isn’t a criticism btw, it’s just how the amount of stuff to do, so early in the game, overwhelms me personally.
I think my only minor criticism of the game is that it seems like it wasn’t designed with newbies in mind. I know most of the single player stuff is self explanatory, but the online stuff is baffling. What the hell is convoy? I’ve joined a Club, but to what end? I’ve found the club leaderboards, so I’m guessing we all contribute to an overall score? I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually.
Other than that, it’s a really enjoyable racer. The visuals are superb (I continued with quality mode because it seems smooth enough to me) and the audio is also great, though some of the music seems to have been used a lot in other racers recently, like Dirt 5.
I’ve turned off racing lines because I hate that stuff and I’m repeating races until I get the 1st position before I move on. My fave races are point to point street races, weaving in and out of traffic, which reminds me of the NFS game on the 3DO.
Oh, one other small criticism. The replays. When you have such amazing visuals, it seems a shame to have such poor replays. I’d have loved to have watched some of my races with a proper replay mode, with cameras moving independently from close to far cams. Instead we only get to choose from limited camera positions, most of which are utterly pointless. Maybe I am missing something?
One thing that did please me greatly, was the option to buy a home that allowed me to fast travel to any road. Such a godsend! *
