Forza Horizon |OT| A Whole New Playground

Hm - not sure what to think about that statement. I thought they were going to create a new and entirely separate area for rally, one that you couldn't just drive to. I thought that was kind of disappointing since part of the hook of this game is the open world, but not a dealbreaker. If they are changing an existing area I'm not sure what to think.

Maybe it's an area that's currently blocked off and pretty much empty?

Wait, does that mean it's just using existing roads and changing the surface? Pretty disappointing if so. I'll have to think twice about getting the dlc.

Same sections with dirt slapped on isn't appealing enough. I was expecting like new, traditional rally stage setups and the like.

I'll wait and see how it turns out but hype has lowered a little bit..

Had a lot of fun trying out some rival challenges and attempting to rise up the speed camera leaderboards last night, between trying to get a little further in the SP game. I need to get some faster cars to get much higher on the 2-3 speed cameras I was attempting - I have the fastest A-rank car on a couple though!

One question - when I look at the event leaderboards for the club, and specifically when I look at "all events" within a category (or whatever it is), there's a time listed. It could be something like "1h24:56." I assumed this is the cumulative time for every event listed in the category, but how do they count events you have not completed? The people towards the bottom of these lists (like me) have extremely long "times" shown, but maybe have only completed a few of the events. Any idea how that works?

I've begun a campaign of psychological warfare. Every time that lady calls me up on the phone to harass me about going to the Autoshow I write down her message and tweet it to Playground Games. Hopefully they find me as annoying as I find her.

That is honestly brilliant, keep it up!

Anyone gonna send out GAF club invites?

We are at the max number right now (100) but we are working on purging some of the inactive players.

I hope the rally info gets cleared up. Same roads with dirt on them is a cop out. Hype for rally DLC at an all time low for me. I'll probably still pick it, I want those achievements, but not day 1. I'll wait for a sale price to pick it up.

The IGN interview made it sound like one car rally with tight roads, which sounds like new stuff to me.

They also said the rally events are not part of the open world, so I don't see why they would be existing roads.

Picked up the December pack. Scooting around with the Ferrari F12 is fantastic. Sounds great. Going to take out the Ford GTX1 next. Here is a terrible pic of the F12.

Edit: And here is the Ford GTX1. I admit I'm not a great photographer. lol

Is anyone else experiencing an odd bug with the GTX1 where the supercharger whine cuts in and out?

Otherwise, it's a great pack. The F1 alone made it worthy of a purchase, the DBS is solid, and the F12 is wonderful to drive. While I'm not too crazy about the dog-'box gear whine they gave it, (this isn't an SMS game dammit!), I'm finding myself warming to its looks. Kinda.

LTTP:

Holy shit this game is fun. Even the MTV culture/Fast and the Furious story sequences are bearable. I picked this up during the BF sale and I just spent like four straight hours playing it. Very pretty too and the soundtrack is fairly decent.

That's what I thought. Was playing a few races with Insane AI and it definitely seemed to be cheating. Kind of disappointing.

I've just been playing on default difficulty so haven't seen this yet - can you elaborate? Is it just standard rubber-banding? Something else?

I suspect on the default and lower difficulties you are being rubber banded when you're behind also. At least it feels that way.

Whatever - I'm not really playing this game for single player racing (although I think its totally fine for that, rubber banding or no).

I can definitely confirm strong rubber banding on easy. I was watching my brother in law play yesterday and he was doing terribly, spinning out all over the place and could barely keep the car on the road. On the minimap I could see the pack up ahead and it looked like they'd come to a complete stop while they waited patiently for him to catch up.

You're behind most of the time so it's hard to say if the AI is rubber-banding, but I do know that they are cheating in class. Insane is at least 50 points (sometimes 100, it feels) ahead of you. I've never been able to get higher than 2nd place in a race on Insane, granted I haven't played very much, but when he's ~10 seconds ahead by the end it's hard to imagine I ever will.

To be fair he's playing on easy, so I'm not surprised about that. I also wouldn't be surprised if there is the opposite kind of rubber banding on Hard/Insane (cars catching up to you even if you blew past them earlier). That's why I only play racing games on normal, to avoid tearing my hair out.

I just can't get into it. The AI is frustrating, every race turns into bumper cars, and after years and years of learning proper lines just throwing it out the window is impossible for me.

Oh well, they're still making Forza 5, right?

Sounds like online racing. "Oh man I'm gonna hit this corner perfectly!" BAM 4 idiot players ram you full speed and smash you into the wall.

Yeah. No penalties for it makes it worse than ever. The AI is guilty of it, too. I have to play with rewind enabled because of the crash-happy AI.

Also, why can't you do custom upgrades before races? Being required to go somewhere just to upgrade your car, and then drive all the way the fuck back for a race is bad game design, pure and simple. I get that they want people to explore the world, but why make a chore out of it? Let me drive to races and upgrade there, please.

It will do it for you automatically if your car is in the wrong class.

But I never see the point because I like to keep the cars in there original class for the most part. With the lack of tuning you can sometimes make a car undrivable . So whenever I buy a car I have it upgraded as much as possible in its class.

All of the races are reasonably close to an Outpost, and once you complete the events at each outpost, you can "Fast Travel" there for free. Then you can do your upgrades and drive the short distance back to the event you wish to compete in. It's not the absolutely most convenient option, but it's not really that big of a chore. You can always earn skill points en route, as well, which are a part of being ranked #1 and completing the game.

Do you get anything for filling the popularity meter after you've hit #1? I hit #1 awhile ago but I noticed the meter was still going up slowly.

Any idea why I'm not able to upload more photos to the Forza page? It says I need to open up slots, but I don't see see to delete shots from their web page. Any ideas?

That's the problem. The "recommended" setups are garbage and I'd much prefer to do my own.
Whats garbage? Any general tips on custom upgrades?

I usually just check out the aero kits and conversion options, if any, pick something I hope is interesting and then auto-upgrade to the current class, or the next one if it feels better. There really isn't much help text about individual upgrades - just small effects on performance bars.

Brakes, tire compound, and weight reduction. Brakes are a very easy upgrade that don't bump your class by much. Tire compound and weight reduction are the best ways to get relatively small increases in class and huge across-the-board performance improvements. Conversion options are often unnecessary and can bump a car's class without giving you as good of a deal on performance improvements.

Also, after installing the game (brand new Halo 4 Xbox 360), has anyone else had problems with hangs on loading screens - especially after fast traveling or visiting the garage?

I've had it happen a couple times online. Never offline though.

Are there any upgrades that provide a benefit for offroad driving? Or is that all dependent on the make of car? From what I've read racing tires still provide the most grip on gravel.

You need to delete the pics from the game.
