Forza Horizon developers Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios have revealed details of their upcoming Rally expansion pack, out December 18 on Xbox Live Marketplace for 1600 Microsoft Points ($20 USD). The add-on, in fact, goes well beyond the typical car pack. This one actually changes the game by adding co-drivers who shout rally calls, new stages, new online events, and yes, five new cars. Let's break them down:
New Stages
Forza Horizon Rally packs new point-to-point rally stages that span the game's fictional Colorado setting. The stages are "full of severe and sudden terrain changes, including steep banks, narrow tree-lined cuts, big bumps, jumps, drops and natural hazards like rocks and trees," says Horizon design director Ralph Fulton. "In addition, we've got more road surfaces than ever before, on-track vegetation with new physics properties, and new particle and sound effects."
New Cars
Yep, no racing game add-on would be complete without new rides, and Horizon Rally includes five -- all of which have close ties to rally racing. There's the '92 Celica pictured above, the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR, the 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi, 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth, and 1982 Lancia 027 Stradale. Season Pass owners also get the 2003 Ford Focus SVT. And they're all upgradeable: "You can take the same rally upgrades that are featured in the cars that are packed in with the expansion pack and apply them to any car in your Forza Horizon garage," Fulton explains. "These upgrades include rally tires for improved grip on loose dirt and gravel, springs and dampers that raise and soften the suspension to maintain stability on the most sever off-road terrain, and rally transmissions that feature shorter gear ratios more suited to the quick accelerating nature of rally racing. I think these cross-game upgrades are a game-changer for Horizon they allow you to upgrade any car you own into a dirt-eating machine for use in the Rally Expansion Pack stages."
Rally Calls
"Its important for players to heed the warnings and instructions from their navigator," says Fulton. "Ignore a camber warning, for example, and you might find yourself off track completely." One examples a of rally call: "One hundred, easy right, into medium left. Care bumps." Translation: there's a right-hand corner 100 yards ahead you don't have to slow down much for, but it blends into a medium left turn that gets bumpy.
Online Features
It sounds like everyone should be happy in the online department: "Well have a new set of rally-themed Rivals events for players to explore, with new Rivals events being added each month," Fulton explains. "In addition, well have two new rally-centric online playlists, one for rally beginners, and one for veterans who know their way around a rally stage."
Finally, Fulton sums up how the rally experience changes Forza Horizon in one sentence: "Rally driving has this strange and thrilling duality that makes the sport unique youre constantly focused on whats happening right now in the car, while simultaneously being mindful of whats coming next even if you cant see it."
Yeah. Five new cars is a bit stingy. I think 10 would have been fair.Stoked about the Celica! I hope to GOD we can turn it into the 1000HP Pikes Peak beast that it is famous for. Plus it is nice to see the Lancia 037 (not 027 IGN) back!
That trailer got me hyped but I am a little disappointed by the lack of new cars. How could they not add the Audi S1 or Monster's Suzuki? Bah!

As much as I love Horizon, I am starting to really feel like it is a missed opportunity. There are so many things they could have done to make this game even bigger and better. I am guessing it is mainly because it was the first game and they want to test the waters and such, so I am holding out hope that they will really take chances with FH2.
Yeah, I think that is the biggest problem with this game to me. It just feels to "safe."

I don't know if this is because this is my first Forza game (and my first racing sim since GT3), but I thought it was extremely well done and has a very large scope. What are the "missed opportunities" that you are referring to?
i think you can consider making this game at all a huge risk though.
I am so bad at this game, I can't make progress. I am not even mad if you make fun of me... I am just angry and frustrated... because wtf is up with me.

It's all on me, I am not blaming the game, Horizon is amazing but I am pushing myself to play it and I mostly quit after an hour because it all wents bad. For example I just tried to do a skill event for like 20 times. 20.000 points to get, the highest I managed was like 7.000 until I gave up because I either crash into traffic or I am not getting traffic at all so I can keep the multiplier up with near misses. I gave up on the destroy parts as I usually crash into the street borders and lose them.
I complain too much I guess, I should just roll with it with what I can accomplish, but then I was never bad at the Forza games and was quite good at PGR 3+4. No idea.
I gave up on the skills events.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I play with rewind off, driving line off and most assists off and still have a hard time on stunt events even though regular AI races are usually a breeze. There was one with a Koenigsegg or some other obscure supercar where you have to hit ~240MPH that took me 30 min - 1 hour because the random traffic kept sabotaging me. Same thing with the skill/kudos stunts where there's too much or not enough traffic. It's all on me, I am not blaming the game, Horizon is amazing but I am pushing myself to play it and I mostly quit after an hour because it all wents bad. The trailer looks good but i´ll wait for the users review because 5 cars is too little and the rumors said its the same routes with a different surface, so to me its too much reuse of the assets to charge 20 usd for it.
First up, Monday. Thats the day that were releasing the latest title update for Forza Horizon, one that has been in the works since the game was launched back in October. This title update will address a number of issues in Forza Horizon, most notably the loyalty car import issue, which resulted in some players not receiving the Forza Motorsport loyalty rewards cars (for having played Forza Motorsport 3 or Forza Motorsport 4) in Forza Horizon.
Also as part of the title update, rumble functionality in Forza Horizon has also been updated to take into account different rumble thresholds for wired and wireless controllers. In addition, Forza Horizon will now feature increased rumble effects at peak tire friction on paved roads as well as more pronounced off-road vibration effects. The vibration slider (which you can find by going to the Profile -> Options -> Controls -> Advanced menu) is now more tunable than before, giving players greater ability to dial the precise level of rumble they are looking for.
Finally, this title update will also address the lack of smoke effects when going from bumper or hood cam into photo mode, a bug that caused grid ordering based on last race results to not work, and a number of other improvements as well. The title update will be available on Monday, Dec. 17 and will download automatically (assuming your Xbox 360 is connected to the Xbox LIVE) when you fire up the game.
This is the kind of stuff that should have been fixed week one or two... Two months later and conveniently in line with a big piece of DLC is a bit off a piss take.Monday comes the Title Update, here some info from the WIR:

Oh, well, it will be hard to convince me.yes, i have read that, i think Badned said something about the routes being the same but with different surface for rally events. Its very disappointing if is true.
Some people with good eyes are saying they saw some of this routes in the trailer, like the tree tunnel.
Hallelujah! With that title update coming out, I won't need to get the rally DLC!More rumble! yesss!!!!
That's... that's not good. I can't wait for the day when Forza DLC isn't something that's just been slightly modified and uses existing assets, or overpriced.yes, i have read that, i think Badned said something about the routes being the same but with different surface for rally events. PC or console? I still haven't fired it up yet, despite installing it on PC about a month agoOh, well, it will be hard to convince me.
WRC 3 for me, then.

Me too. I beat a couple of them but others seem impossible, at least for my skill level.I gave up on the skills events.
What difficulty are you playing on? I played most of the game with the opponent AI set to easy, there's no shame in it.I will too
Now to get better at races. Friends said Horizon has rubberband AI - I told them that can't be because the leader is always half the course ahead of me, lol.
