I know it's been done to fucking death and wish it would stay dead, but can someone please explain to me why the wheels and tyres look off in nearly all pics?
I want a definitive explanation here. I mean, all the cars look nice and shiny and then the whole experience gets shit on by the fucking wheels and tyres.
Help me Dr.Phil!
Which pics are you speaking about?I don't think the warehouse pics in the Cars section of FM.net are 'real', they are the menu pics which will alter depending on tyres and rims chosen like in 3 so it makes sense for them to be off.

Rio was amazing too in FM1. Loved that track, coming out of the tunnel and being shortly blinded by the sun. So good !
Also, seeing Sunset Peninsula at night with all the dynamic shadows, it was so impressive almost six and a half years ago. Imagine the same thing on next-gen hardware !

Isn't that the same tunnel used in the "this is what you can do with FM3's video editing video" with the R8 in the beginning? It looked so damn cool in FM1.

That's just it though. The tyre and rims chosen are stock. Even if they are menu pics or whatever, the cars still look gorgeous no matter what,no matter where..except for the legs. I'm sorry, but it still doesn't make sense to me unless...
amar is onto something

Didn't the Bearded One say that there were no night races in FM4?
Maybe time trials with just one car on track might be possible.

Fuck, who am I kidding?

We'll have to see for ourselves when we get the game but so far, I agree with amar, the material shaders could certainly be better.
A game that I always thought had good material shaders (but severely lacked polygons) was the first TDU.

No, seriously the two look similar but I think it's one of Sedona's tunnel in the E3 video.

No, it's real. It was taken during the mo-cap session for the "Dan" model used in Autovista.

Nothing for nothing but i'm among the earliest members of the official FM forums ever since early 2006. This is my Sig that i've been using ever since then:

I spammed and spammed those forums for many years pleading and annoying everyone (as I do here) about Turn 10 featuring some Aussie shit. I tried reasoning with them about how if they indeed included some of our stuff, that a lot more Aussies would get on board the franchise.
Well, they've finally did this, and as predicted, Aussies all over, gamers or otherwise , who don't play video games or who have never bought or even heard of Forza (GT is a fav down here) are now gearing up to buy the 360 and the game as well. I posted the news in many Aussie automotive forums and the feedback from the revelations is astonishing to say the least...

P.S Turn 10, whatever you do, DO NOT forget to include a Holden Torana of sorts. Trust me on this one.
I'm right with you SALADINE, you have my axe or some such thing...

Is 15 Terabytes of vehicle audio samples for a racing game an average number or what?

He may be smooth at first but the beard is like a super move in Street Fighter. Down-down forward-forward and the beard will appear and KO your ass.

Because
of the way how the graphic engine is treating materials/surfaces. I really do not want to do "VS" crap here, but it is obvious how graphic engine of the other game is capable of making clear visual distinction between various types of materials/textures. Thus metal looks like metal, rubber looks like rubber, glass looks like glass, leather as leather, etc. *Problem* we have here is that actual visual representation of particular material/texture is not convincing as it could/should be despite the pretty good lightning - thus we get the "plastic" and unnatural look for it.
And lightning, of course.

just slightly wrong settings for diffuse and specular, really, nothing else.
tires can look many different ways anyway; new ones will be almost black and shiny, with a low diffuse, high specular, high glossiness. As they get dirtier/older they get more diffuse (because of the dirt on them retaining light) become brighter grey, lose specular and glossiness.

Plastic in fm4 (and 3) looks like it was polished with that awful silicon spray stuff that makes your car's dashboard look oily. they should tone down the specular and glossiness a little.

Anyway, cars look rather awesome outside the white warehouse

Jube, you said you can take pics in photovista....here's another question.

can you 'autovista' in all homespace locations or just white warehouse ?

Jesus, we really do need some new FM4 info, don't we..! :lol

Well, i would really appreciate comfirmation of actual sectors on all tracks and coresponding split-times. Really.

I still do not understand how community wasn't louder about that issue which is really one of the greatest in my notebook.

I suspect you may be a communist.
Looks like being on 50ppp is not letting you get in on the 69 goodness. Then again being on 50ppp means you're already losing anyways.

Any idea what they could show at the TGS? Like maybe SuperGT

Badned said 'tons of news at TGS, some great news about Super GT, something that will make drifters very happy and more..'

Somehow T10 forgot the whole "Motorsport" part of the game.

They need one guy dedicated to this aspect. Would like to post more on this later.

Why venerate Dan when he plays with steering assists lol

Forza Garage Round 1: While the decades between the 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432 and the more modern 2010 Nissan GT-R SpecV and 2010 Subaru Legacy B4 2.5GT, all share distinctly Japanese performance characteristics and are a great addition to Forza 4!

I always wished that they'd modify the rewind and put a second option where you could do a quick reload of an entire sector and run it over and over getting splits on it (i.e. jump to the start of that sector w/ little load). The end of the race should show all your section times too. I somehow don't think we'll see this though (it would've probably been apparent in some of the preview vids we've seen)

I Love iRacing's system, showing a myriad of sector times, including 'optimal lap'..

Jesus, I just got sucked into the old GT5 vs Forza 3 comparison thread. Next thing I know it's two hours later and I feel like I haven't showered for a week. It's a fascinating, sad, deluded, informative, and hilarious clusterfuck of a read.

Wonder if Bish'll set one up for GT5 vs FM4? Might be the only way to keep the banhammer in the box this time next month.

If you want to get even dumber, check out the COD vs BF thread. People argue about some of the dumbest shit lol

Wheels looks pretty good. I wonder why they didn't adjust the lighting for the car select screen.
maybe those car selection screens are old. Or they toned down some things to load faster.

Probably the latter. I wish they wouldn't use that for the webpage cars though.

Notice how the spoiler is deployed on the LFA bigshot, yet retracted on the car select screen?

Even the cars get boners at the thought of lossless image exports.
