In fact, I wish the car reveals showed more rear views. It's how we are going to see most of the cars in-game anyway.

this has me thinking - with the new perelli tires relationship, will we still see other tire manufacturers in the livery editor?

I've been wondering that too, good thing I've got some Goodyear, Dunlap, and Michelin logos coming over.

Almost immediate for me, I think. They must send them out in batches, so its all a matter of timing.

Edit: big feature on BBC Breakfast News just now with a bunch of gamers lapping the Top Gear Test Track in a Merc SLS, while David Coulthard tried to beat them for real out on the track in the same car. Loads of footage, interviews with gamers, a whole bank of racing pods set up... and the game they used was GT5. What the fuck!? Is Sony trying to steal a bit of Turn 10's thunder a month from release? And how come MS aren't travelling the world setting up events like this? It made national TV on the BBC news, for fuck's sake! That's free advertising. Car lovers into gamers and all that.

Lol - the BBC keep calling it "a unique virtual reality experiment". It comes around every twenty minutes or so if anyone wants to catch it.
Its here

Video games have made many couch potatoes believe they are as good as the professionals at a range of sports, but especially Formula One.

Mike Bushell caught up with former Formula One driver David Coulthard as he took part in a unique experiment.

Racing a road car around Top Gear's course, Coulthard challenged a host of gamers who took part from the safety of an arcade, in a live race.

Judging by this:

Doesn't seem like logos will be present on tires. Then again, I don't recall the SuperGT cars in F3 having the logos on tires either. I think that had more to do with us being able to change wheel type, size and width in F3. GT5 did have the logos present, but we were locked from changing wheels.

Based on how much T10 has been name-dropping Pirelli, I doubt we'll see any other manufacturers.

Who know's if you can add them yourself, but removing them from the race car liveries wouldn't make any sense.

yeah, if thats in the game, it will have the bridgestone branding. arent there playstation branded cars in FM3?

what i'm wondering is if in the livery editor there are still pre-made logos for the other various tire companies still, or if those have been dropped due to their new relationship.

and those modeling shots are gorgeous. great detail.

Step your game up, T10.

They have ALL those assets.

Everything ever made for PGR is in hand of Microsoft Games.

It is just matter of wait to next-gen consoles and making it go in native res in 60 fps.

Will not happen though, it is 100% Tesla syndrome.

I don't know if I'd put the work from another studio in my game, especially now that they're not part of the company anymore and well, dead. I wonder if Bizarre and Turn 10 hated each other.

I doubt they hated eachother, but putting another studio's assets in your game, especially whole cities, would bring them a shitload of negative PR. I'd say it's an unwritten rule not to use them even though you have em. Maybe car models at max.

But really... it's something like "best of luck on the next version of Gotham! We know you guys will really be bashing it to get PGR 3 done on time ;-)"

BTW any news of Forza World? :/

Forza World is the planet-sized vault where Turn10 keeps all their now unusable Porsche assets. At a glance it may look like it's populated by a trillion of the same car over and over, but Porsche assures you they're all different.

To be clear, I have never implied that. I said how PGR could be raised from dead by releasing it in its native engine on nextgen.

I presume all ots graphical fidelity problems - subHD res, framerate - would be nonexistant in native form. Something along the lines of how F1 by Codemasters is absoulutely different experience on PC and consoles despite being the exact same engine.

It is crazy even to imagine the actual fidelity of actual cities of thisgen PGR series in native form. It still neats anything, anywhere, but we said it too many times already.

I know it's just a rumor but I can see it happening. Forza comes out every two years. Rumors are that the next gen consoles would come in around 2013. MS posted job listings for positions at Turn 10 over the last month or so..
Would be awesome if it indeed happens though..

I'm not sure where the negative PR would come from. The people who would make a stink on boards like this make up such a small fraction of the gaming community.

I actually think the return of PGR's cities in Forza would be meet with great enthusiasm.

Nah, if they still care for realism they must not mix cars and bikes in one game, that would be bullshit.

Just make a Forza-like motorcycle game Turn10 for us motorcycle lovers!!!!!!

Honestly they weren't that bad in PGR, but the mixed races just didn't work.

I don't see why not, as long as they don't have mixed races. Only way to do mixed should be in a custom lobby if you really want to. Hard part about bikes is getting the feel right, very few games have in my opinion (Tourist Trophy is one of them).

Well the only other demographic that is affected by PR is the Kotaku readers and those who pay attention to the blogs and there is a strikingly large amount of those.

And Copy+Pasting assets is a faux pas in the industry, hell it becomes a big deal on blogosphere even if they're copy+pasted from your own previous games, let alone assets another studio made that wound up in your possession. It's not that there is anything wrong with using old assets, hard to find a game that doesn't, but on a scale of entire environments, and not from the same developer, there would be controversy of T10 using shortcuts, and sloppily pasting together content instead of making something *new* themselves.

It's happened before, and for pettier things, regardless of whether it is still more content at the end of the day. I'd love em too, but they'd feel weird in Forza's realistic aesthetic. Oh and we'd need a Blu-Ray.

I hope the focus for Forza 5 is on a much wider and more varied range of circuits to race on. This (more than car count, gimmicky games, and autovista) is what will give the game real legs. I pray the emphasis doesn't shift further away from racing than it has done already - Forza will end up with an identity crisis if Turn 10 aren't careful. I'm not necessarily expecting monster trucks, dirt bikes and speed boats in Forza 5, but I'm sure Dan already has plans for some other superfluous addition to the content. Tracks, tracks, and more tracks. That's what is needed.

Lol, FM4 isn't even out yet and here we are discussing FM5..!

Forza should maintain the focus on the love of automobiles and the love of automotive racing. If they want to branch out, bring back things like autocross, recreate tarmac rallies (like Targa Newfoundland), provide customize-able garage spaces...essentially deliver all the things that surround car-love.

Qft, stick to the love of cars!

I would love for Forza to deliver a more 'race day' feel, a more motor racing atmosphere in the future.
I want to see pit crews, marshalls, tv crews, grid girls/crews, flags, strategy, intense racing, proper engine damage(overheating, blown turbos..etc).
I want to have a memorable experience where tough races, cars jostling for positions, bump n grind, immersion, more tracks, more starting cars,rain,night..etc becomes the norm.

The love of cars is a given and will continue on. But where do you draw the line when it comes to ogling the automobile?
How long can you sit there and admire the door or engine bay of a car before you tire of it and then demand a more expanded experience?
Forza as it stands now, has the basis of car love down pat. This has always been the fundamental aspect for Dan. For the future though, it's time to expand into other areas besides the admiration of cars alone and to try and deliver an intense racing experience incorporating the previous examples as well..

If another racing game was released today with the same engine that PGR4 used, I would not be disappointed in the slightest. It's still the pinnacle of graphical fidelity at 30fps on a console, IMO. Framerate very rarely dipped below 30fps, motion blur was executed perfectly and from what I understand it was the first time anyone had the idea of using the framebuffer to use as a reflection map on the cars (I think that's the terminology). Prior to that, reflections were often low-res and quite ugly. Forza 3 implemented the idea after it was in PGR4 and from what I can remember, GT5 didn't (and looked all the worse for it).

Kinda like a combination of the best bits of Grid, Shift, PGR and Forza then? That would get my vote. And on the NextBox all posible at 60fps, yes? Crikey, I really hope that 60fps becomes the minimum default frame rate on the next gen of consoles, like Sony said it would be on the PS3.

Sony said 120FPS, no?

All Forza 5 needs to be at launch for nextxbox is a forza greatest hits at 1080p.
And then start building forza 6.
I would love to see the cars on tracks with better AF and more AA.
Also increase the texture sizes and LOD.

3d crowd pop-in in forza 3 is terrible, fixing that would be nice too.

Hopefully next box forza will do what the codies F1 games do, have a real motion captured pit crew and a more lively track feel (birds fly out of trees, stray helium balloon from the crowds, leaves falling from trees) it's really suttle in f1 2010 but once you notice it in a replay or on a fast lap it's awesome and stops the track feeling so static.

they could easily put out a Forza 4 ultimate edition epilogue and take another year to complete fm5 when xbox1080 comes out.
Just further upgrading shaders and lighting and using full lod models for all cars.
AF, 1080p and 4xaa would make a night/day difference and would cost almost nothing. Sold for cheap it would help T10 fund the real fm5.
Like i said elsewhere, i would buy that in a heartbeat

Exactly.
I mean, when someone mentions intense racing, immersion, sweaty palms..etc, how often does the name Forza pop up?
Not often I would suspect. For me, SHIFT comes close to what I'm looking for.
Borrowing ideas from other games shouldn't feel shameful if the potential experience can be multiplied. You don't have to always incubate ideas in order to deliver something special...

Agree with that, MOAR IMMERSION please.
Make it almost feel like its real and alive.
So much things can be done to make Forza better that it will take them years to achieve that, hopefully next-gen consoles will give them more possibilities.

To be honest, I think that a motorcycle game from Turn10 (if its in their mind) won't happen before long, they're already too busy with Forza already.

I absolutely love little details like that. Hell, even the blimp on GT5 brings a big smile to my face every time I see it circling overhead. And Shift's helicopter TV crews are almost sexual.
Would it kill FM4 to have a couple of hot air balloons in the sky on the Alps track, for example? Anything to make the environment seem more... alive.

So true, that's my biggest regret in Forza, tracks are so dead !! It's real surgery room, without a single microbe :\
