Forza Motorsport 5 |OT| Open wheel, tyre squeal, orange peel, dat next-gen feel

Beside the missing and changed details Prague footage is looking really washed out now.

Could be the HDMI levels they were captured at. It's all ugly and shit.

Freeplay is there but no longer can you pick all cars from the start. You can only drive cars that you have in your garage or rent a select few..

Beaten

MOTHERFUCKERS!!! Helios, come in here and explain your fucking self.

I AM NOT GOING TO GRIND FOR HOURS JUST TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE ONE OF THE ALREADY LIMITED # OF CARS OUTSIDE OF CAREER MODE!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT! IT WASN'T BROKEN, WHY DID YOU CHANGE THIS?!?!?!

Is it fair to characterize the criticisms in the Eurogamer review by Robinsons as being (in addition to the trimmed-down track selection) annoyed by the change in how credits and vehicles are rewarded in career play forcing the player to make more deliberate purchases with in-game currency or to rely on the real-world money purchase of car tokens? The quickplay alongside the review at the locus of the writing itself seems to fit that.

I don't think those elements bother me as much (due to the way I play personally), but those seem like fair points of contention. Making the process of acquiring cars more time-consuming while offering a way to skip that by paying real money seems like a model I don't like. I'm of the view that there's value in making the cars have "value" from needing real time and effort in gameplay, but giving an option to skip that seems in poor taste, sort of de-legitimizing the economy of player efforts.

That aside, the game looks legitimately amazing in terms of handling and visual presentation. I'm glad to hear the career play is still up to par. The new AI systems seems like the best (and most interesting) I've seen. Knowing that "hard" really means HARD this time around is a dream come true after the difficulty scaling in F4.

It seems there's quite a few downgrades that people are noticing..

It just looks to me like they changed some textures and moved bits around etc because the E3 version wasn't final obviously, the pics with the car about to go through the tunnel has far more pedestrians in the crowd on the final one compared to the E3 one for example.

There's far more differences then just that, but best not to talk about it or this thread will close too.

Talk about a locked 60fps, the game didn't dip once, literaly.

Yep, 1080p and rock-solid 60fps. Turn 10 nailed it. Fantastic news.

Has anyone mentioned whether replays are 60fps this time? I don't know why but it's always been very important to me. Hard to watch 30fps replays after a silky smooth 60fps race. It's quite jarring.

The thread got closed because people were comparing low-res YouTube footage to medium-res YouTube footage, both with heavy compression. M0dus' comments on the close:

In the spirit of objectivity, using YouTube captures and compressed video to try and formulate anything approaching an informed observation is dubious at best. This issue can be re-opened when high quality media is actually available. If such an issue, in fact, exists.

30fps and motion blur again.

DF has a 1080 400MB replay you can download and a 1GB 60fps gameplay video.

Even with the downgrades (which i expected, considering the old demo only had 1 car onscreen) i think the game looks pretty great.
For some reason, it looks like ingame IQ > replay IQ

Is there any review that goes in-depth with multiplayer?
Everyone I read was only "mp is great, good matchmaking, lotta fun", but no details.

I've only just noticed that the DF analysis was done in an eight-car race, which seems like an odd decision. Why not test in with a full sixteen car grid? Not trying to suggest any subterfuge, but you'd think they'd test it at maximum stress? I'm sure 60fps is maintained with a full grid, but nevertheless: odd decision by DF.

Also, I'm curious why the graphics have to drop to 30fps in the pre- and post-race cut scenes. Surely these low-action parts could have been at 60fps too? Weird.

Perhaps the resources are being used elsewhere in loading in assets and setting up the race.

Since it's on-topic for this thread as well, I thought I'd share a post from another thread I made looking at some of the comparisons. For reference, the release version is on the left, the original reveal footage is on the right in each pair.

I wanted to take a look at some of these comparisons.

In addition to much sharper detail, we see more geometry in the scenery, more detailed trackside textures, better lighting and a more pronounced dynamic range. Here's another simple one:

The amount of both geometry and texture detail in the release version is dramatically improved. I prefer the warmer lighting and the dynamic range we see, though those are stylistic changes.

This one's a dramatic upgrade, with more detail on basically everything in the scene with regard to textures, geometry, lighting and the addition of meaningful amounts of new track-side detail. Look at the trolley lines overhead.

I see changes, but I don't understand the claims that these are flat-out downgrades in any way.

Great to have a final confirmation as BADNED still listed it as a 64' model on his list ! I know what my first 6M are going to buy me !

Same here. I know Helios confirmed it a while back, but considering Horizon's mislabeling of the '64 as a '62, and the fact that I've wanted the real '62 in the game so badly and for so long, I just couldn't bring myself to believe it. Helios, my friend, I'm sorry I ever doubted you.

In other news, looking past the "every-car-rebuilt-scratch" PR, there are plenty of nice updates for some notorious Forza car models in those shots: remodeled Enzo, NA1 NSX-R, and 22B STi (I'll defer to the experts on this one), what looks like a touched-up F40 (again, I'm sure Xanadu can chime in...), correct rear-wheel offsets on the F50 and 908, front wheel covers for the 787B, and white-walled tires on the '60 Corvette. There may be more, but those caught my attention when clicking through the screens.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
+ love that the paint/vinyl editor is now in the show room.

- sucks replays are still 30 fps and arent really up to the level of the competition.

+ thank you for showing the improvements to prague. i was getting worried, but it definitely looks (marginally) more detailed. more impressive IMO though is the changed lighting.

This whole console warz BS mixed with the GT concern trolls are making this place almost unreadable. Cant wait till I can play this in 34 hrs so I can get away from the insanity.

Watching the Forza 5 livestream for the past minutes sure make not being able to play this game a pain to be honest fellow GAFfers.

Going to miss all those liveries from Hertz Donut and all FORZA-GAF races and discussions. Oh well, I wish you only the very best and the most fun you can have. I'll make sure to drop and say hi every now and then.

By the way, I'm watching Games Radar Stream, not the IGN one.

nah, just enjoy whats happening.
nothing of all these can detriment even 1% of your enjoyment for this game.
on the contrary, you might learn to have fun with what seems unbearable to you right now ;)

shoutout to the monk! ;) (although gamesradar forza = finished :) )

Was about to have a good old moan about how poor DF's footage looked on my monitor but before opening my mouth I tried it on the projector which is running a limited HDMI level and the video looked really good, a night and day difference.

Yeah there's some aliasing (surprised just how much considering the replays are 30fps) but otherwise it's a good looking game.

They were streaming for a decent time but it's a shame I couldn't see more since they were taking their time in the menus.

They also were bad at driving, but no surprise in these streams. I liked the Career menus, and the game seems to be delivering some nice steady 60 FPS which is great, I just wish I could see it in person, preferably at home, on my TV ;)

2 more days fellas! Can't wait. Although I ordered my Xbox one online so I'm not sure when I'll actually get it. Probably won't be till next week. Still hype is red lining.
