Whether you're up for a couple of races or want to learn everything about Porsche, Forza Motorsport 7 will scratch that racing sim itch and then some. It's the definitive racing experience of the year and another new bar for the series to surpass

Thankfully, Forza Motorsport 7 itself is a stride forwards for the series, albeit not a massive one. Both the career and multiplayer remain comprehensive, even if this latest iteration does tend to play it rather safe for the most part. Still, there's no faulting the superb handling and wealth of content that's been crammed into FM7, the attention to detail truly impressing in its myriad cars and tracks. It's not quite the 'wow' sequel that Forza 6 was, but Forza Motorsport 7 is proof positive that there's still more than ample fuel in Turn 10's tank.

Holy shit this game has 92 metacritic. Goodness!

I'm not interested in the game as I don't play corridor racers but god damn good job Turn10!

The ShackNews review is awful. They say it’s an amazing game and big up the PC performance - and then give it 6 out of 10 because they had stutter issues on their PC.

IGN's review in progress/early impressions are quite positive. It sounds like they feel it's a bit same-y and minor upgrade over Forza 6 though. I'd expect an 8.5-8.8 score based on the write up so far.

Except not only them have technical problems but alot of people including me.
It is perfectly fine to incorporate this into the score because it effects enjoyment of the game.

Also the review is PC specific and doesn't effect the precious console metacritic score.

What he should do is update this score when the problems are addressed.

The PC version has bad stutter just like Horizon 3 did at launch, hopefully it's fixed soon because it really hurts the game on PC.

Yeah, just looked up the rest of both franchises and Petter Hegevall reviewed all of them for Gamereactor.se except the two first GT's which I can't find reviews of on the site. Not seeing any particular bias and I'm sure Liliana Eileen after the premature accusation doesn't either.

Forza 7 - 7/10
Forza 6 - 8/10
Forza 5 - 7/10
Forza 4 - 9/10
Forza 3 - 8/10
Forza 2 - 8/10
Forza - 9/10

Gran Turismo 6 - 5/10
Gran Turismo 5 - 7/10
Gran Turismo 4 - 7/10
Gran Turismo 3 - 9/10

It's not ridiculous if the reviewer finds that having such a large car roster with lots and lots of cars he has no interest in results in not enough physics work has gone into the cars that he actually is interested in. By continuation that is where the "not especially realistic" critique comes in:

He's not biased against Forza as you can see above, he simply doesn't like the direction of the franchise:
Wow. It was mostly a passing comment in the lootbox thread, but maybe I really do need to fire up FM4 again.

What's the correct term then? Lol.

I guess I just mean anything that isn't open World like Forza Horizon.

Anything along the lines of track racer, circuit racer, closed circuit, etc.

Corridor racer is what people tend to use when they're ironically dissing a game for the most part.

IGN Review In Progress
The Forza Motorsport series’ key pillars have always been its technical strength and its sheer breadth of content, and they remain so here. As usual, Forza Motorsport 7 is drop-dead gorgeous and marches at a steadfast and decisively locked 60 frames per second under every circumstance.
...
It does seem like it’s pivoted just enough from Forza Motorsport 6 to establish itself as a worthwhile upgrade, however, and combined with the tweaks to the driving experience, the massaged sound, and the much-improved track atmosphere, this year’s edition already feels like the definitive Forza Motorsport game by any measure.

Destructoid Review in Progress
Even only a few hours in, I can tell that I’m in for quite the experience. Forza 7 doesn’t necessarily rewrite the playbook on how racing games should play, but it provides the most content of any game in the series while also looking like an absolute wonder. This feels like the game that should have launched alongside the Xbox One all those years ago, but at least we’ve finally gotten there.

From the ongoing Destructoid review:

What I love is the ability to tweak parameters of each race. If you truly wanted to, you could turn every event into an endurance race and circle around your favorite track for 45 laps. Why anyone would want to start the campaign with such a parameter is beyond me, but Forza 7 lets you customize your experience as little or as much as you want.

This also boils over into your driver, though with very limited options. Through the introduction of prize boxes (a.k.a. loot crates), you can acquire different uniforms to put on your driver and show off online. It is completely basic and doesn't even factor into the actual racing, but it's nice to finally have something other than liveries to look forward to.

Finally, I'll address the performance of this PC port, which is nearly flawless. There are some stuttering issues due to the way the Windows Store compresses files, but even on my meager setup of a Core i7-3770K and GTX 1060, I was able to max out the visual settings for 1080p and even enable some super sampling while maintaining a solid 60 FPS. Forza 7 is a dream to play on PC and having the ability to enable a dynamic quality option will basically ensure that a wide range of configurations maintain solid performance.

I miss Dale North's racing reviews.

You can't have a racing game thread on NeoGAF and not have console-warz shitposts in it, that just wouldn't be right.

Driveclub threads are still the only game threads without an inflammatory topic title I've seen closed down. Like just pre-release discussion topics shut down because they went totally out of control! (It was FordGTguy and his cronies)

Coming into this thread, reading the conversation and I knew I was in a Xbox thread with its usual evolution: going downhill after certain people kicked in.

On-Topic:

Haven't played the game yet for my own but from what I saw on video and read in articles the game seems to be good. For a console racer in particular. Not happy with some of the decisions for instance about VIP which made me buy the Standard Edition instead. Will be interesting to see the differences between my One S and the One X and how they manifest in front of my eyes.

Bloody hell, the metacritic is in-line with FM3 & 4 atm, as-in it's the best in the series with those according to reviews.

I've not bought the ultimate edition cause I can't justify the extra dough, but I can't wait to get my hands on this tomorrow!

I'm still not sure if I care to buy this game. I've purchased every Forza before the launch of the XBO and was hoping this would bring be back to the series. However what they are doing with the VIP boosts and them crippling the way you earn credits just rubs me the wrong way. That's on top of the stuttering I experienced on the PC demo.

The lack of career in GTS and polish in PC2 originally made this an obvious pick for me, but I'm not so sure now.

The game only has 10 reviews in so far and that's not including some of the lower scores we see in this thread. It'll surely go down and be below the top entries in the series.

Fixed the issue with the Hoonigan Pack not being playable by going to the Apps on W10, Forza 7, Advanced Options and uninstalling then re-installing the pack.

After 25+ hours of gameplay, I can honestly say Forza 7 is outstanding. There is no sim that is easier to use (not Project Cars 2), has more vehicles (not Gran Tourismo’s 180), is more realistic (sorry Need For Speed), or better variety (not F1 – same car most of game), than Forza 7. There are better dirt track games, and NASCAR games, and car-sports games, but no racing sim has as much to offer as this one does. This is the best car sim of 2017… and potentially ever.
Rating: 9.5 Exquisite

Yo, all right.

Just spent the last 10 minutes deleting your lovingly crafted console war shitposts. You’ve now wasted your time with those hard fought arguments similarly to how I’ve had to spend my time sweeping them under the rug.

Next person to derail this thread is getting banned until the next Forza game is released.

Mainline, or does horizon count? ;)

And what is that? Does the average gaming press ever do touch on the physics? No.
Specialised sim sites will do that, but not Gamespot or IGN.

So the average gaming press doesn't care about car physics in Forza but will complain all day about car physics in something like GTA? Confusing.

Either way, the reviews are pretty good. I'll wait to see how the first major performance update on PC turns out before considering a purchase. I had to wait a long time for Horizon.

Is this real? lol

I only have a passing familiarity with him, but Kevin O'Connell is a solid reviewer. His Project Cars 2 review did a good job of balancing frustrations with the bugs with his awareness of the dev's ongoing patching efforts. He LOVED Dirt 4. He lives with a physical disability, which is part of why he's so into the sim-style games. He's an old-school Mechwarrior fan to boot, which is always a plus in my book.
