Depends, you'll get the basics down within 30 minutes. To get somewhat competetive it probably takes about 10-20 matches (3-5 hours)

I really wish there was an export option that wasn't Youtube. Sure I have a gmail account, but I refuse to sign up for Youtube. Nailed the third bit of the first mission safely with only one casualty due to the fact you have to micromanage them not firing on sight.

Keyboard shortcuts also help, but the game's GUI and micromanagement is still a bit clunky for what it's worth.

Anyway, was sweet to have the one dude taken out by a sniper, my second machine gunner leans out from around a corner (micro-tap/move to the right of cover) takes out the sniper and we're pretty much smooth sailing between a shotgunner that takes one-two dudes out while my last machinegunner takes the last two-three people out and we escape with the double-agent out the door. Felt like a military breech.

AWESOME GAME. Even if I'm getting my ass kicked in the multiplayer due to the stupid rockets being abused the first turn by throwing it through the level to my initial spawn that takes out everyone before I have a chance to move. WTF at the design and balance of that. :/

I created a FS youtube account for Gaf. PM me if you want the login and pw.

And you can always, always, always escape first turn rockets. I know it seems counterintuitive to run into open space at first, or into the next building where you might have a worse stand, but thats part of it.

That offer was for everyone btw. If you dont have/want a youtube account, pm me and I'll send you the login information.

And most of the players in the next tourney are beginners, so ease up everyone :)

True, but you'll lose the overview at some point. And if you have multiple games, you wont know in which one you won, too.

I started playing on release, played some multiplayer. Haven't been playing lately cause I wanted some of my friends to get into it too, but they didn't at the time. They got it now, so time for me to play this again :)

I don't think the replay of my singleplayer is saved since I moved to the next mission.

And yeah, you can. But it's just like the grenade launcher arc in the first five seconds of a round in Call of Duty: Pure bullshit.

The first grenade your enemy threw was cleverly placed. Not bad.

And yeah, I was playing 30 mp matches before I was finally able to beat level 1 or something. Hope you still enjoy it, even though level one kicks your butt (for now).

Level one isn't that bad once you get into the mindset of "well, the preview isn't the truth." And play defensively. Once you see which direction the AI is probably going to go, you counter. If you get caught in a cross-fire, but the bullet is still traveling: GTFO AND INTO COVER.

Honestly, the first part was okay once you got used to the shotgun range. Second was easy (for me anyway) if the room/area is spawned to where your machine gunners can mow down the scientists without having to chase them down.

The third was tricky and I failed the first random layout. The second was a lot more beneficial by giving some proper cover for the extraction team to go through while I went from room-to-room-to-room while going down the main/extraction-leading hallway to stay in the doors to diagonal aim at anyone coming toward us and to watch out for the
sniper
that spawns.

Edit: I also didn't know you could "plan moves" for the enemy. Which helped out when I read about it here. Place the enemy in cover, see if you can pop him. If not, move him to the open. See if he pops you. See if he'll ignore you. etc. etc. etc. It becomes "time consuming" but it can help your team have an advantage if you take the time to see a move like chess.

Well, you have to simulate your enemies moves as well, which you can do. (What you think they will do, anyway).

I got it right when it came out and after about 30 minutes of matches against the ai I jumped into multiplayer with decent results. The basic rules are really simple, and the layout of the levels is random, so it's not like the people you are up against know a bunch of skill trees or map layouts that you don't.

For one copy? Because for 16$ you get 2 copies, just sell one and you only paid 8$.

ReggieNotMyProblem.jpg that you didn't see the Steam Sale thread about it. >_>

Besides, it gives you two copies of the game. Split the cost of $8 with a friend and play the game together.

Gosh, I am really bad at this game...or it just seems I have bad luck. Does anyone have tips?

Anything in-particular? A few quick general tips:

Utilize cover to its full effectiveness. Not only for firing, but you can also duck behind cover which is crucial for sneaking around the map and getting across large portions of maps without being gunned down by assault rifles. You can survive being shot at for a second or two while running from cover to cover before ducking. IIRC, you can also throw grenades over cover while ducking.

Simulate enemy movement. I don't think a lot of people realize you can not only simulate your turn, but also the enemies by telling their units where to move and what to do. This is really helpful in determining who will come out on top in certain situations.

Remember to remove aim/duck/engage. I catch slow moving enemies a ton because people forget to remove previously set instructions, don't forget to remove them and reissue them when needed.

playing SP Campaign. i got lucky in that first escort mission. the last 2 enemies spawned together where my guy was aiming. Made it an easy win.

Another one? Sign me up! Could I suggest we do a Dark Disputed, or Dark Charge tournament at some point too? They're less beginner friendly I understand that, especially Disputed, but also slightly more interesting.

So what exactly does Duck do? Just make it harder to be hit, especially behind cover?

Behind cover it will make it impossible for someone to hit you, though you will not be able to shoot over it. That also makes it pretty nice in Dark game modes where they wouldn't be able to see you at all if they didn't see you move there.

Also, sometimes I have been able to throw grenades over cover while ducked even though the enemy couldn't attack me, which is handy.

Soundtrack edition, where do you download the soundtrack?

It should be obvious to me but I can't find the link to download the soundtrack after purchasing it, only the game shows up.

It's mostly for hiding behind cover, but if a rocket guy fires while ducked, his rocket will blow up cover rather than go over it.

Well, this is fun. I know I'm doing horrible, and might be overlooking every inch but this is some good fun.

Had some luck with the first mission on my first try; went down to one on one. Went off to try Multiplayer after that and got killed off round one.

Fatty: The music files are in the game's file.
