Having directed one of the best films of pre-reboot era "Star Trek" with "Star Trek: First Contact," filmmaker and former "Star Trek: The Next Generation" actor Jonathan Frakes has indicated he's keen on sitting in the director's chair on the third film in the rebooted franchise.
In the wake of Roberto Orci's departure from the big chair, Frakes appeared in a radio interview with Komo News this week and said he contacted Paramount to express his interest and is waiting on their response:
"I'm all over it. I would love that job. I'm trying to keep the lid on how excited I am about the possibility, knowing it's such a long shot. But there's nothing I would like better."
Frakes certainly has experience with the franchise, having also helmed "Star Trek: Insurrection" and numerous episodes of the spin-off shows including 'Next Generation,' 'Voyager,' and 'Deep Space Nine'.
