I knew this episode was going to be "that" episode but it still made me sad. :(

I admit it didn't have as much dramatic impact like the first series because of the fast pace of this series but it still made me choked up.
It's not really that this series is fast paced: This episode corresponds to chapters 15/16 of the manga (Chapter 96 is releasing today). The first series really extended things out by including filler stuff like majihal, psiren (that alchemist thief), the fake elrics, not to mention the extra stuff they added to the 5th lab (going further in and finding the chimera prisoners and tucker), and they added filler so that they did about a chapter per episode for the early manga events that really aren't that major (the train, youswell mines, and lior visits... well, lior was major in the first anime, but my point is that they added filler to go through things rather slowly in the 1st adaptation.)

While they are skipping over some things in brotherhood, your complaints stem more from the fact thta things in FMA1 were drawn out, while brotherhood is tryinig to be a more faithful adaptation of the manga story and pacing. FMA2 is a little fast paced compared to the manga, but FMA1 is EXTREMELY slow paced (when looking at events that are shared). While FMA1 wasn't trying to directly adapt the manga's s tory, it took them 25 episodes to reach an event that occurs in chapter 16 of the manga.

This is just about where I expected them to have this event in Brotherhood (before the series aired), since it is a catalyst for putting one
Roy Mustang
into action, and there's a lot this character does (and is still doing) afterwards as a result.

I agree that it didnt have as much effect as in the 1st incarnation of the series.

Of course it didn't. You've seen the first series, so you knew it was coming.

I understand that this series is following the source material more closely. Doesn't mean it's not faster(better) paced than the original. Episode 10 vs Episode 25 or 26 of the original.

Soon it'll be Ep14 vs Ep34 of the original! :)

So, I read some of the Eastern Province News and it was quite surprising what's happening in those Lior Riots of 92:

Episode 11 was pretty entertaining for what it was...

also, Megumi Takamoto's version of Winry Rockbell is awesome :D

is the latest episode filler or from manga? I don't remember it from the original anime

yah didn't read it

I'm a huge fan of the manga. Probably my favorite of all time, higher than Berserk (way too infrequent) and One Piece (although I've noticed that I prefer OP 3 weeks out of every four. : p).

I'm at Ep. 9, but so far, it's been amazingly consistent with how close it is to the manga. Down to a tee.

There have been a few minor, minor, minor additions or subtractions from the script, but I'd bet 99% of viewers won't get it.

What I'm saying is, whatever you saw wasn't filler.

that's good to hear. 1st anime is my favorite, but I would like to see the creator's original story
The anime will be my crash course to the manga arc if its 99% percent close to the source material.
its nice that the manga is still ongoing.

if you want to see the creator's original story, then read the manga.

Episode 11 is amazing. So many great scenes! Made me chuckle a lot too.

The scene where you see the mum in labour through Winry's legs with the guys flaking out on either side was mighty unsettling though!

In this case... I'd actually be hesitant of such a recommendation. I recommend it anyways but the anime follows the manga panel for panel, really.

I personally prefer manga and I love FMA's simple and clean art style, but if someone isn't a fan of reading, then I'd absolutely recommend FMA anime 2 as a valid substitute.

To be fair, I've never seen much anime, but FMA has to be the most faithful adaptation I've ever seen, and probably one of the most, if not the most, faithful out there.

You must be thinking of Monster. Now that was a panel for panel adaptation. Totally put me to sleep. I can't really say that FMA Brotherhood is panel for panel, considering how tons of dialog and scenes are completely removed, and original scenes are added in pretty much every single episode. That isn't really a bad thing, but to say it's the most faithful adaptation ever is pretty ridiculous lol.

Finally got around to watching the last four or five episodes and catching up. I'm feeling a lot more comfortable with this "pace." I've hardly read the manga, so it felt almost rushed in the early stages (I kept comparing to the original), and it feels more natural to me now.

Pfft.

Panel for panel more like perfect.

So I just saw episode 12, and what the FUCK @ the preview for episode 13.... I didn't think they would get to where they apparently are going to get in the episode quite so soon o_O

Ed will begin fighting greed in the next ep, which means the episode should cover 3+ chapters of material o_O

Error

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Episode 12 has got to be my favorite so far. When Ed realizes the whole point of the training=awesome.

The soundtrack in this new series is SO much better!

their website had zero security and an episode of some show leaked early worldwide as a result.

Ever since then it's been down. Sucks.

Hulu has them, but are 2 weeks behind. So that's the best we can do ATM.

Excellent!

Also:

I admit I haven't seen much anime. It just impressed me in comparison to things like Naruto and Bleach. FMA is following it really closely.

May I ask what you're trying to say?

Well if you mean my typing 'Ant' instead of 'And', then there you go.

Otherwise, I read the quoted post as saying FMA is following Naruto and Bleach in terms of being comparable to "impressiveness". While both shows are very great, their inclusion of god-awfull fillers, and the fact they they(Naruto at least) are dragging on with no real aim, or the exact same aim as 5 years ago, with no progress, makes them very lackluster.

Well, if anything, I'd say Brotherhood is going through things a little too quickly with recent episodes....

Episode 13 basically cut an entire volume of the manga down to one episode.

ep 13 was enjoyable, some of the moves he did was in the original, in the final showdown with Greed.

seems like things are really turning different the original, I was waiting for this :)

I'm not digging the new OP from what I've heard.

I also did not like this episode that much -there were some weird transitions between scenes. Fighting was nice, though.

Well, I finally caught up with where Funi is sitting. Ep 13 should go up tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that.

I really prefer this one to the original one. The pacing and characters seem much stronger to me.

The goofy fucking shit seems to be increasing not decreasing though :/

I have no clue how you came out with this interpretation. I was criticizing those series for the faults you mentioned, and praised FMA's current iteration for its faithfulness.

Deal with it. It's in the manga, and quite of a bit of it, too. <3

Personally, I rather like it.

If it wasn't for the goofy shit, I think the series would be a bit too heavy.

The goofball stuff makes me smile and appreciate the characters more.

I don't mind the goofball stuff. I mind the way they did it.

But whatever. I can deal with it because it is otherwise well done.

I spent an entire day reading the entire manga and I was simply blown away. Now, I loved the old series, but the manga is leagues better. I can't wait to see some of this stuff animated in the new series.

Shit dood, that was amazing. This episode may have been the best one (concerning pacing and animation) since, I dunno, the first one.
