Platinum Trophy: Learned to Shit While Upright Again.
Man you are hype up tonight.

Need to get back on the Trophy horse before PS4 reveal

I slacked off a week due to real life issues, only earned 1 Trophy, ONE, UNO, *ONE*... Oh the Humanity Trophymanity!

Need to get 49 Platinums before PS4 release + 1000+ more trophies and 4 more PSN level to hit Gaming Milestone 2.0
(200 Platinums (175 PS3 + 25 Vita), 10,000+ Trophies, PSN level 40+)

Reviews make this sound like it could be pretty solid with the right co-op group. Solo play seems almost futile, hopefully the matchmaking works properly.

Really seems like this game had it's identity sucked out with a straw...

Hahaha. well get to it.

Looks like the overwhelming consensus in the reviews is that the solo campaign is merely serviceable and solo echelon is impossible.

This is a bummer. I know the game is made to excel in co-op, but I was hoping leap would bring more to the table in terms of single player.

Personally, I play most games solo, but I can't stand linearity and scripted campaign encounters so I seek out any dynamic objective modes that I can find. Modes that celebrate raw mechanics of combat and on-the-fly decision making more than pure spectacle and story based QTEs and slow walks. These tend to be horde modes, and they've all been tuned for 3+ players, which just doesn't work for me 90% of the time. I can maybe get one other of my friends on with the same game, rarely two others and a full squad of four will happen as often as Haley's comet. I'd like to see campaigns either get far more dynamic, or at least make some of these post-campaign modes more scalable.

The game has shipped and is on its way though, and I'm still looking forward to a few goes through the campaign and at least attempting echelon, both solo and as a duo, but my expectations for real lasting value are at rock bottom.

Fuck PSN is throttling my speeds >_<

Hit 50% so fucking fast, then now I'm at a crawl and only gained 9% for the last 4 minutes, while getting to 50% was 5 minutes =/

Eh I think we all knew this game was mostly co-op focus I thought?

Finished Installing. Let's Do This!

Edit: Oy, the Logo Splash isn't cropped right, you can see it's a little off to the side, can see the hint of a green scan line (border), and the Insomniac logo freezes for half a second, freaked me the fuck out

Rebooted 3 times, keeps doing the same thing >_<
Is that suppose to happen?

One good thing about this game is that it looks absolutely 100% identical in splitscreen as it does in full screen. That's a very rare feat, even Gears of War makes compromises.

Also it's good that there's no black borders in splitscreen unlike Resistance 2 and Resistance 3.

Do cutscenes playout differently in splitscreen for both players? Like different camera angles?

No. During the proper cutscenes at the beginning and end of a level the splitscreen is dropped so it's full screen during the cutscene. During the mini cutscenes in the middle of a level, for example giving a sweeping view of the battlefield ahead, the splitscreen is kept but it's the same view for both.

Review scores seem to match up with the demo, still, looking forward getting it when it releases in the UK.

They're not random at all, they're completely biased. You're picking bad games to support some argument.

The fact is EA has been doing release day embargos for about a year or so at least.
He talked about bad games so I checked against bad games. I do see that it was the wrong comparison to make and I apologise. I may do a more thorough investigation later but I don't think it matters now the reviews are coming in.

When is the UK release date?

Jesus Fuck Echelon is fucking hard, Holy Hell!

Don't even try to think you'll even surpass wave 6 if all characters are < level 15

It's good to grind for XP and learn patterns, accumulate Fuse credits

So far have

Dalton @ level 8
Izzy @ level 9
Nayla @ level 9
Jacob @level 16

Jacob is such a crowd cleaner during protecting the Fuse canister waves
Just unlimited crossbow spam, and tap R2 to liquify the enemies
I keep spamming traps, wait enemies to run over and bam, 1500 XP in an instant, from all the Liquify bonuses

After wave 6, Holy fuck are the enemies fucking bullet sponges
It will get balanced out when players hit level 25+ on characters, it's fucking needed

Best so far I've done is Wave 10, 2 away from beating it =/
It took us at least 15 minutes to drop this boss, Jesus fuck

No one has mics on top of that, so awesome, also most Dalton players are so fucking stupid >_<
Hur Dur I'll place my extra shield, half way across the map where there are no enemies, yuck yuck >_<

Oh how I need good competent players
Already figured out strategies for bosses, some use the weapon cache weapons on grunts, it makes so so fucking sad ; ;
Got so close to Time Bonuses, but they take so much damage

Solo play isn't futile it just requires a bit of a different mindset.

Solo'd two maps so far.

But yeah, if you want credits, Echelon is the way to go. Go for the time limit bonuses to make it rain (literally)

Also, Giantbomb Quick Look

Anybody else seen the nods to Overstrike (concept art)? Though it might make you a bit sad if you see them :3

Solo Echelon is crazy easy. I'll stream some of it today. These guys are bad at Video Games.

Made my way through most of the first level (I think). Having a good time but I got hit with two bugs that caused me to reload the checkpoint. After a cinematic the camera stayed on the position of the action and wouldn't return to normal. Then I clipped through a wall at another junction. Nothing major I suppose and I didn't lose a lot of time.

I have one big question. I've been picking up fuse credits like mad (gold bar stacks) but when I went into the pause menu, and later at the main menu gear screen, my credit count showed 0. So, do you have to beat the first level to start accumulating or what? That kinda seems like a big bug if I'm not earning any.

Sounds like that could be a bug, not really sure. Hop into echelon mode and see if it gives you any credits ? Strange, for sure.

Edit: Me and Graverobber are in a match, looking for a 4th player. Doing damage on this live stream.

Does Echelon 'feels' like R2 Co Op ?

It's an evolved version

Where as in R2 everyone had a role to play and if one of the 3 classes sucked ass and didn't help out, it could hinder progress

At least with Fuse you don't have that burden

It almost like R2 + Diablo (in a sense)

Dalton is Tank, Naya is the black magic AOE specialist, Izzy is the Healer, Jacob is pure Glass Canon/Damage Dealer + Crowd Controller

Fuse Cell round Jacob shines the best due to his arrows becoming traps on the floor and simple R2 tap, ensnares the enemies in liquid magma, and earn him a fuck-ton of points

Naya is best for Weapon Caches due to her invisibility

Izzy shines during boss battles and her healing grenades are literally a life saver

Dalton is the main part of all waves, he has to be ready with his shields all the time, no time to goof off

All the heavy weapons you amass should be hoarded and placed at least in the middle of the map
Wave 6 needs it, and so does Wave 12 (especially this round, a Titan + Chain-gun or two or Flamethrower, can kill bosses so fucking fast)

So far I have played close to 10 hours and earned 17% Trophies already
Not to shabby, only played Chapter 1 so far

Even though there looks to be only 6 Chapters, each is 1-1.5+ hours to finish
That Lethal Difficulty trophy most likely will be 4 real players Campaign Co-Op with everyone at least level 35

Also you have a limit break move in Fusion, which is so goddamn fucking handy, unlimited Fuse ammo for a short time, you go ape shit just spamming and hitting whatever is in your sight

My first Echelon online match with a full party, we reach wave 12 and they send an Enforcer at you. And to make the first one not feel so lonely, another one pops up 30 seconds later. You know, just for lulz.

So good.

All this coop talk makes me want to play it and relive the fun I had with Mass Effect 3 coop. If I didn't already have The Last of Us preordered, I'd get this so fast.

I feel that this game in particular will be a slow burn, especially for the things like the co-op and Echelon.

My bug with the Fuse points ended up being me just not being able to read the text. To be fair I must have had like 8000pts and it was hard to make out the 8 in that red font. Crisis averted, gamma change incoming.

The core gameplay here is pretty solid. A lot of shit can be going on and there's hardly any framedrops. I have had some odd stuttering here and there but nothing huge. Some vysnc loss when I was close to a fire one time. Just random musings but everything has mostly been solid in the performance department. Not bad so far for Insomniacs first outing on the 360.

Also, are all of the extra costumes only available for use in echelon mode? Boooo-urns if so.

I have loved every R&C game (the proper ones mind you). I have loved every Resistance game (the proper ones mind you).

I considered buying this digital to play co-op with my brother, just because it's an Insomniac game.

But now I see you've slapped an EA-overprice™ on it on PSN, so I won't bother.

Publishers control pricing, not the developer. Also, it's a few bucks...

I went to Best Buy today and they didn't even have it on the shelves. I had to ask an attendant to go dig it out of the back for me.

Anybody else run into this? That certainly won't help sales.

Anecdotally, I didn't get my Amazon "release day delivery" today. Should arrive tomorrow.

Amazon is hit and miss with this though. My record is maybe 7 out of 10 for actual release day deliveries.

I think so. You're basically chasing objectives, hiding behind the tank and mowing down tons of enemies.

3 hour stream archive, all Echelon mode, lots of maps.

These weapons are awesome. Insomniac always gets that right. I'm enjoying this a lot more than the usual Gears/COD meathead shooters. Also, Echelon is hard! Its hitting all the right buttons from Resistance 2 co op.
