GAAS grew immensely for PlayStation during the last fiscal year...

Again? Damn that was quick!

I was looking to see about another ban and saw MiB got banned. Again.

Didn't he just come off a ban like a day ago? Edit: looks it was a couple weeks ago. Still...

Is this because we want added content or because it is forced down our throats and required to enjoy a full game these days?

This is a great point and shows why this "gold rush" for GAAS is destined to fail. I'd say the vast majority, at least 80%, of the GAAS revenue market is owned by just a few deeply-entrenched IP. Fortnite, COD, LOL, PUBG, GTA Online, Roblox, WOW, and Minecraft would be my main picks for that. The entirety of the rest of the GAAS market would split the remaining 20%.
In the US - yes
Worldwide, especially if we take market as whole (PC/console/mobile) - no. Titles you mentioned should be around 10% of global gaas market by rough estimate and there are hundreds of titles there. Some of them are very big but hardly known/perceived as big by old-school SP crowd leading to many delusions and poor judgements.

There is no Mihoyo and they are at 6 bil per year, no Tencent (close second gaming company in the world even though it doesn't have own hardware platform) and Netease and those two big in China/Asia. Japan is like 90% gaas and titles there are not listed by you. Where is Valve with it's Dota2 and CS?

Ialways assume MiB is trolling, but is the guy being serious?

Seems like he's way too passionate about this to be trolling. Although when he told me the other day that the "extraction genre" has the potential to pull in a big volume of players, I did stop and wonder...

Sony needs to stop buying lotto tickets trying to get their own Fortnite. They already own a gaas with destiny and should focus on strengthening that. It may not be the biggest but it is still huge. And more importantly it is the longest running. The destiny fanbase is more traditional core gamer than the typical gaas or gacha player and is extremely committed to the franchise. That matters more in the long run.

MIB threads are always a fun time. But, eventually, you just have to admit that no one wants to see your baby because it's ugly.

a ban for that? c'mon that's harmless post
His stupid delusional topics are definitely not the problem... the way he responds almost everybody disagreeing with him in a constant condescending high horse big brain way definitely is.

So things will mount and add en eventually enough is enough.

Sorry, but I don't see where it says it's thanks to GAAS? Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes ? It'(s stating that it's DLCs that are up, so it could be COD/Fortnite skins for what we know.

Edit pack it up guys:

That doesn't take into account the massive loss of Concord. So yeah, it's easy like that lol. And to think that there is ANOTHER generic GAAS by Fairgames coming...
You asked an AI and it quoted a post on IconEra.

We are doomed if people think this is a proper way to analyze anything. Numbers wise whatever AI this is got it factually wrong.

Literally the first sentence: Based on the X post (the one in the OP) AND related data...

Please call an exorcist to send back to hell the GAAS plague.

You claimed "it's stated" that it's DLCs that are up.. When neither the tweet in the first post or the pointless AI garbage you posted even mention DLCs lol

I'm not saying OP is correct but your post sucks bro.

It was a given that he'd get a ban with one of these threads. I'm more impressed it took so long. I'm just glad it's not a permanent ban at least.

His threads are more than welcomed here in Gaf, but he needs to accept the reality that he is a contrarian of the forum and it'll be treated as such with his takes.

I honestly developed great respect for MIB on his disappointment of Marathon because I was also very excited for it and within 30 mins of presentation reality hit.

Though he did came back but few valid points. Just needs to be a little less passionate about moving pixels on a screen.

OP is incorrect, and maybe I should've use Add-On content? Is it better for you? That change nothing but oh well.

I fail to see your point? So you think MiB is correct or not? If yes, please expand on why he is correct. If not, what are we doing here?
My point is to correct you in this idea that it's states it's DLC and not related to GAAS. Hell you brought up Fortnite skins which is an example of GAAS revenue.

We don't know the breakdown of that big 25% jump in add-on-content so nobody really knows who is correct.

It could be some big traditional DLC came out. (It's probably GAAS spend though lol)

Most people will stick with confirmation bias instead of looking fair at reality.

We know from Sony leak that attachment rate for follow-up sales on SP games are very low - for AAA action adventure 98% revenue is game spent, for fighters game (one that have follow up sales on higher side) it's 78%, meaning that only 22% are add-on revenue. The gap between software sales and add-on content now 30% in favor of latter, making it's very hard to justify "it's DLC sales". And a lot of gaas are paid gaas and their initial sales also goes towards software sales.
Given these 2 factors it's practically given that live service games generate more revenue than SP games.
But we will have more concrete information in a few weeks when we'll get business segment presentations.

I don't know when the fiscal year ended so possibly irrelevant. But as one of our resident sports gamers who is a sucker for team building, let me just say this. Last summer we got NCAA complete with team building mode. And Madden / NBA have been jacking up the price of card packs. If microtransactions went up it could easily be just from spend on increased sports game packs this past year.

It couldn't. It's 2.5 billion USD jump, like 100 mil more copies of DLC sold. Numbers on this scale are not dependent on any single or several few games, it should be a massive paradigm shift for it to happen

Five million copies across all platforms is the only reported number. ~Even~ if it sold 5 million on PlayStation alone (that is highly unlikely) you need 13 such DLC to explain bump in revenue.
People seems to be extremely bad with numbers, but very good with their believes.
