None of you guys can front on Life is Good.
Tech is a good kind of mad, sometimes you just need to vent your anger. I also like the themes he tackles, a lot.

Regarding Detox, I won't lost hope but sometimes I feel like this guy:

9V4fj.gif

Going back and listening I need a doctor with the stuff that DOC and Snoop said, I see Em's verse in a different light. He is basically echoing what those guys said
It hurts when I see you struggle
You come to me with ideas
You say they're just pieces so I'm puzzled
Because the shit I hear is crazy
But you're either getting lazy or you don't believe in you no more
Seems like your own opinions, not one you can form
Can't make a decision you keep questioning yourself
Second guessing and it's almost like your begging for my help
Like I'm your leader
You're supposed to fucking be my mentor
I can endure no more
I demand you remember who you are

Oh shit! Kanye West - Mama's Boyfriend (Q-Tip beat).

Wonder where the Soulja Boy version is at. Beat needs to be turned down a bit, but dope.

Damn. It just needs to be mixed down, but this sounds really nice.

I've never and I don't wish to listen to a Biggie album in its entirety.

If you need to listen to any B.I.G. album, Ready to Die is really the only one that you need. Life After Death is ok and the posthumous releases are forgettable.

And Eazy-E being a runner-up for a category that involves singers :P

"stan 2"? this beat is too good for wayne.

Agreed. Seems like Swizz always saves his best works for Wayne. What's the sample used in the song btw?

I loved J.Dilla beats without even realizing it. Running away was always my favorite Pharcyde track but I never bothered to check who produced it.

this, so hard. ATCQ, slum etc, all loved that sound and didnt even know.

i guess "music changed my life" sounds kinda wanky, but only if you havne't felt it. dilla & seba both kinda did this for me, on some level. i'd also rock a "dilla bang my wife" shirt too though.
but yeah, i mean, i once attended the church of St. John Coltrane while staying in the bay area, so i don't think it's unfair to say it can have a profound effect.

ps that 90s forum post is gold. i hope some of our shit is half as entertaining years down the road.

Its funny seeing J.Cole hate. Dude hasnt dropped a bad tape yet, flow is great, lyrics are on point, great ear for production. The guy is a complete package.

GAF-Hop will pile on with a quickness sometimes. I liked Friday Night Lights, havent listened to shit else he's put out since.

these are the same lovable dudes who told me Nas didnt have it in him anymore, and then we heard Nasty. pre-kamspy post: no, i dont expect and album on par with that.

Hahaha. Would be interested in Immortal but his performance at Paid Dues really put me off. What an angry person and his fans are just as angry as he is.
Seriously, the dude needs to chill out. During his whole performance he basically talked down on everyone and said that all police are corrupt.

Don't know about that.. Swizz gives everyone hawt beats, expect Drake..

out of curiosity: what was your impression of tech prior? ive seen him twice, but his albums were always pretty angry to me.
Just a heavy political rapper. He would preach something between a song and all of his fans would scream the same shit he was saying. Maybe I would like the studio albums more because I would not pay to see the guy live.

swizz has hot beats? i remember that one for dmx 15 years ago and that one where he runs next to a lambo. he's the lady gaga of producers.

i like jcole but he lacks something, cant put my finger on it but to me he's not even close to kl or quest.

He has no flavor. You're reading that shit off like it's a checklist and that describes him to a tee: on paper flawless but IMO his delivery and lyrics aren't very compelling. Yes; he can rap very well. I'm just not that into how he raps yet. I'm not writing dude off, i'm not saying he sucks or anything either. Just that as of right now... Not that interested and seeing his fanbase go on about how he's going to do this and that and whatever in the game is just as annoying as it is about Jay E. So i'm gonna wait till his full length to decide.

I said basically this whenever everyone was all over his dick when "The Warm Up" came out. Really surprising now that a lot of you guys aren't feeling him.

Can't stop listening to the new Cyhi Da Prynce track. I mean, the beat is so perfect. Classic 2004 era Kanye, but it still fits with the new Kanye, and it has a bit of that boom bap sound. I want some other rappers to bless this beat, god damn.

Was someone talking about some J. cole group? What are they called?
Start Your Own Rebellion. Not really his group but they are signed to his label. They're a "virtual band" like Gorillaz. He prod/featured on a song of theirs.

I said the same thing, too. I believe I was told to go listen to Taylor Swift since I obviously didn't love hip-hop.

J. Cole is good when he has a point to his songs. But he's getting too much influence from the Drakes of the world. Each tape has more and more "for the ladies" tracks, and the occasional song where he actually focuses on other shit. Those result in tracks like Lights Please. Which, to be honest is the only song of his that I can recall off the top of my head.

Swizz Beatz just ain't for me, I won't deny that he has the ability to produce hits but when a beat's produced by him I'll listen to the song once and then skip it.

I really don't get the complaints, he is far from bland, like very far from it. its like people hate because he is talented. I get he isn't everyones fav, but the bland comment is mind boggling.

His songs and tapes rarely have a relevant point or unifying theme. I don't agree with kam on how good Tyler is but he said something very relevant when he talked about the songs on Goblin having a good level of cohesion as far as theme and concept go.... Cole IMO doesn't really have mastery over that. It's what separates a good or very skilled artist from a potential all time great...

BTW that new Big Sean is fucking bumpin. This is a guy with the opposite problem as Cole. Can't really rap well at all but he can make some bangin songs goddamn. I expect him to blow up this summer. I'm only on Hometown too, will listen to the rest after class and finish up.

J. Cole gives me nothing new or fresh, he's a guy who's very good at his wordcraft but he's just lacking in substance. And to be honest I feel like he's putting more tracks out that aren't to my liking. Like I said I'll wait till his full length drops before I say any more but as of right now he just feels uninspired and doesn't stand out very much apart from raw ability.

If you're not feelin Cole's subject matter then his music becomes boring. Personally I rarely find him boring but his introspective and mature themes speak to me...to each their own.

...Now that I think about it, I did like Transform Ya, So Appalled and the song he did with with Diddy-Dirty Money (Ass on the Floor). I haven't actually heard the the first two you posted so I'm gonna check em out right now.

To me he's just too perfect like some rapping robot. And he has no defining personality traits. I want to put my rappers in little boxes with lables on it. That's why I love Black Hippie..Jay Rock the G, KL the intellectual street rapper, Ab Soul the funny broke one and Q the weird guy.

I don't want rappers to be one dimensional but Cole is non dimensional, he's like 1D.

Finally famous was also his mixtape series lol.

Not familiar with Sean apart from features on other dudes work. I'll grab the newest later, I guess. This vol. 3 one is pretty hype though

Damn Big Sean I admire the effort and all and your beats are quite nice, but you've gotta be the most anonymous rapper I've heard in a long time. He might be Finally Famous but I've still got no idea who he is or what he's about.
It's like the guests came down to his level too, Lupe verse was slacking, Kanye verse was slacking, Pharrell's beat was slacking, by tomorrow I'll forget I ever listened to this.
Disappointing!

Ready for an eye rolling moment?

I've never and I don't wish to listen to a Biggie album in its entirety.

I've always seen Pac as the more interesting personality and person.

Also enzo, in hindsight was MBDTF that great? It wasn't even my pick for album of '10 in the first place. I liked it but in comparison to other shit I've listened to, I must have played old Kanye tracks more that year...

Edit: Let me clarify, MBDTF was a favorite of that year but it wasn't the most powerful. And all in all, I could connect/vibe more with Mama's Boyfriend over the other tracks of MBDTF.

The fact that you like Pac more shouldn't disqualify from enjoying Biggie...Ready to Die is inarguably a classic, and as a fan of hip-hop it should basically be required reading. If Illmatic is the Citizen Kane of hip-hop/rap, Ready to Die might just be it's Casablanca.

Also in regards to the Cole discussion, I agree with both sides...

Cole is a good rapper
Cole is also a boring rapper

Aight okay, this is more in line from what I thought your opinion was of the album which I respect but is still a far cry from saying it "sucks."

Also Swizzy is capable of making some bangers, but he is far too inconsistent, and the number of songs that sound like a stomp musician fucking a vuvuzella far outweigh his actual good productions.
