The same backlash happened when MGS4 came out. Dudes hyping the game up to the moon while others were convinced that the game was an interactive blu-ray movie. I would get it on a steam sale though...still eating off of The Witcher 3.

It's sort of an 'equal but opposite' backlash. MGS4 was hyped as second coming, turned out to be 2/3rds cutscene. MGSV was hyped as second coming, turned out to be 2/3rds gameplay. People raging on it either way, from different camps. As a pure game, on gameplay alone, MGSV is way better than MGS4 in every way and has like 60+ hours of gameplay rather than 10.

Anyway. This thread is awesome. Gonna jump on some stuff eg Toro Y Moi.

Pretty sad tbh. Macklemore brought them all in for a reason, to try and get more "cred". Jigga, kendrick, ross, etc have all worked with veterans in the industry and have given them countless shout outs, among other things. I mean, they don't have to owe you anything... he's just happy he got that check.

Yep he dropped it at midnight.
Nice, I'll check this out. I still bump some tracks from Blue Dreams and Lean 2.

I'm a huge MGS fan, but, man, I realized how stuff like this really doesn't work for me anymore and is legit embarassing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_tRpMOc0Kk

Rolled my eyes hard.

Still looking forward to playing it in a few weeks when I finally have the time.
lmao. Honestly, it's surprisingly light on that type of weirdness overall. And Quiet is actually a decent character past that and one other goofy scene I've seen.

Been on a No Limit kick...I'm going to start posting reviews of albums from the discography starting with Master P's debut album "Get Away Clean".

Melle Mel is Cliffy B's ghostwriter confirmed.
I respect him as a legend but this is fuckboy shit. Hov had Biz Markie on Girls Girls Girls. Hov brought out Kane at the Barclay's. Kendrick has MC Eiht on GKMC and has done tracks with E 40. I agree legends don't often get the respect they deserve but don't throw your people under the bush because they didn't give you a handout.

I give Macklemore props but let's be real. He wasn't sitting around one day and then said hey, I want to do a record with Caz. This feels like him once again reaching for credibility, or pre-emptively defending himself from criticism by trotting out a legend. How can he be accused of appropriation when he's rocking with the creators of the genre, basically. I'm not mad - hell I blame our pathetic society more. IE those who sit around looking for something to be triggered or offended by, those who don't know what "appropriation" means, folks who write asinine think pieces on Why You Should Be Offended By This, people who act like a 16 year old actress' opinions on racial issues are deep insightful shit, etc. Caclemore is acting like a young quarterback who has been sacked too many times. He's panicking and trying to avoid the next hit. But that makes things worse.

He'll never get respect or props from black people so he should just say fuck it and do his own thing. And when he wins that Grammy over Kendrick again he should say thank you and sit the fuck down.

Lots of talk that a big name artist is dropping a surprise album through Apple music for the iPhone / iPad event today.

Views?

As someone who's never really delved into No Limit, this interests me

Trust me...the hatred towards the label is undeserved when P was more loyal to his artists than any other exec in music. Plus there were some hidden gems that folks need to peep out of the catalog. Dudes were more than no named rappers with a good production crew.

Folks like to clown because of the lack of quality control in the late 90s, but No Limit had some solid albums in the mid 90s.

Doesn't seem like that big of a stretch but it is.

Indeed. P took advantage of the game in the 90s by getting that god tier percentage deal from Priority, selling his albums for cheap while folks were selling double disc albums for almost 30 bucks, and had a word of mouth approach in order to save funding on promotion. Dude was a genius.

Smh...I'm just in awe at the fact that TDE are so obtuse towards their management, it's not even funny. Imagine Lil wayne dropping "The Block is Hot" single, only to find out that Baby was like "naw playbowy...we dropping Turk next week and we'll have a voting contest on The Box of when you are going to be dropping your solo album".

This fucking management man...

That is what happened at cash money.

At this point I wouldn't be stunned if 90059 sells <12k first week. These Days did 14k first week without a decent single; he at least had a fanbase that he fed well a couple years ago.

Meanwhile Kendrick got the spotlight tonight on Colbert and might also drop a video (Wesley's Theory, w/Ice Cube and George Clinton according to reports). That will be the second video Kendrick has dropped during Jay Rock's "launch window." Pathetic management.

also smh @ the disrespect for melle mel here, we've had artists be much bigger bitches about much smaller shit, let the man eat

(featuring Heltah Skeltah as the Fab 5 which was supposed to lead into a full Fab 5 album but Rock leaving Duck Down put a stop to that).

damn, now im sad we didn't get this
related: wanna hit up some Black Moon but ive only ever fucked with Enter Da Stage, any recommendations?

You just know Questlove hasn't touched a black woman in a decade.

ahahaha damn
wonder if its the pro-black stereotype or just these dudes getting access to a flavor they didn't normally have back home or some shit, i know i'd be all about that

i know i'm late on this, but the new toro y moi is the best thing he has done since underneath the pine (under that name, the les sins album is excellent)

oh word? hitting this up later today then

Can we all just agree that Top Dawg Entertainment is a dumb name?

ehhhh we've had much worse names for labels, it's hard to point out just this one for me

I like it, as long as I rationalize it as a gigante VR mission generator.

...damn, okay. roommate just tied this one up finally so i'm gonna go in with this mentality, might finally replay Ground Zeroes just to have finished everything in that one up first

The same backlash happened when MGS4 came out. Dudes hyping the game up to the moon while others were convinced that the game was an interactive blu-ray movie

4 was booty buttcheeks and we all knew it soon as the credits rolled

RTJ always yes, skrillex typically no

All this time yall were posting about Duckworth I thought you meant Kendrick.

...same

The Story of 'Fuck Tha Police', a Noisey minidoc. Got interviews with Yella, Cube, gangbangers that new the members, cops from the NWA era etc. Gives a great perspective on how bad it really was.

also watching this later, thanks man

I don't even know who he is. Real Hip-Hop started in the 90's for me
sass1.png

damn, old man - you're a decade earlier than most of this thread tho

Jigga, kendrick, ross, etc have all worked with veterans in the industry

i might've slept, who's Ross worked with?

I post this shit a page ago and this rhubarb eatin nigga gets the discussion going.

Unbelievable.

you gotta get off that vitriolic "BLOCK ME I ON EEEEN GIVE A FUCK" life fam

He'll never get respect or props from black people so he should just say fuck it and do his own thing. And when he wins that Grammy over Kendrick again he should say thank you and sit the fuck down.

true enough, but honestly, if dude just kept putting out solid albums, he'd get props eventually. maybe not the respect that some other white MC's have had, but at least that much.

my man took it back to Box votes though, goddamn
shoutouts to having Luke - Scarred on 10x in a row half the summer of '94 or whenever it was

(Wesley's Theory, w/Ice Cube and George Clinton according to reports).
