livelove > hnc > longlive

livelove changed hiphop and made it easier to be a weird indie rapper in ny, since then we saw flatbush zombies, joey badass, bodega bamz all came out and have been successful to a good degree. even action bronson got more shine from it. livelove brought back the bone thugs flow, chopped and screwed, and brought clams casino/sgp type beats to the mainstream. cool shit.

nah du q kisses kendricks ass but who else besides 50 is he kissing ass with who else is he begging for features with? no one. besides tde and 50 q kisses minimal ass especially compared to rocky

not to diss rocky because rocky but the whole new new york on, AND is helping danny brown cross over, AND gave q his first big woah guest verse with brand new guy so the dude has done shit for others

I agree ASAP's best days are probably over. He's gonna go full mainstream, although interestingly his album seemed to fail at that imo. I don't even think it would have sold well if it didn't leak. Shit is just...forgettable

Q has solid connects with multiple producers, he can write hooks, he is super hype, he's got Kendrick in his corner...I'd rather be him musically. I'd rather be ASAP though, just because he clearly gets more women.

q too busy eatin

longliveasap has a handful of good songs, jodye, goldie, angels, lvl, longliveasap, but yea its mostly forgettable especially compared to his first album. the one track it gave us that everyone will take away and is a modern day classic is 1 train. people will be bumping that song for years and years. it's a classic.

Gotdayum, mooose, starting off the 2013 abuse of 'classic' right.

I don't dislike Q, but think he can't form a whole album that doesn't put me to sleep. On the flipside, he was one of my hypest ft men of 2012, alongside danny and 2chainz. I don't know what it is, though 2chainz was the exact same way. TRU came and went, that boring shit.

i wonder if alchemist will ever stop being good, i always doubt it when he gives shitty beats to rappers like q or raekwon or whatever other rapper he isnt 100% into but then he just wows the fuck out of me. his drums are always just good enough, but the samples he finds...

fraud didnt get enough love for special effects last year... shit was tight. he needs more crazy stuff like that. dude has his moments of genius and plenty of dull ones... i was on montana's d back in 08/09 so ive been following him for a long ass time and his schtick is still good to me too...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df5puMebhjM

one of the top beats of last year. i was thinking who i think could kill it and i really have no idea. heems was a good start tho i think this is in his lane. ghostface wouldve went in too in a good way and i think raekwon too as weird as that sounds. wouldve been an ill cuban linx 3 song.

also on cuban linx 3 i wanna see a song with rae, ghost, and clipse. that would be the craziest shit tho new god flow kinda spoiled it a lil

As ironic as it sounds, Mainline hiphop really doesn't give enough love to the percussion, from all that I've heard. You got ninjas going bonkers on the 808s, and Luger clones with highhat rolls, but nothing that really switches everything up.

On the flipside, it's subgenre Jazzhop is prodcing shit that's out of this world.

This whole topic is actually why I'm excited to see 'acoustic'-and I use that liberally- artists like BBNG catch on, and eventually even produce for artists. It's not as if I ever see Gucci going over a BBNG production, but I never thought I'd see him over El-P either, so anything's possible.

We need to get back to hard ass drums in "underground" hip hop imo. Only a small group of rappers (ie Roc Marciano, Ka) can get away with sparse percussion on a consistent basis imo.

I was watching some youtube footage of performances at The Tunnel club in the 90s/early 2000s and remembering nearly every major rap "hit" of that time had hard drums. I've been listening to Hell On Earth a lot lately too, same thing: hard, big drums.

Break beats need to return too. And real basslines outside of 808 trap bass

You listen to this yet? Was surprised you weren't really pimping it out when you were mentioning Pusha T

https://soundcloud.com/troyave/troy-ave-feat-pusha-t-concrete
You know what, I actually had this open in a tab and was gonna post it, but I think you or someone else posted it a while back, but I closed the tab without actually listening to it haha, ima listen in the morning.

EDIT: Are you kidding me? Q kisses the shit out of kendricks ass. He even said some shit to the effect of "if i didnt know him id be starving" or "if he aint eating then I aint eating" you are delusional sometimes man
That's not calling kissing ass, that's called giving respect where respect is due. Q could give a fuck less, dude was told he was supposed to be the hottest thing out right now and he said right now Kendrick has the jump on him because he's got more buzz, and is leading the movement. Kissing ass is not the same as being humble.

Anyways your delusional about Q otherwise, he's a much stronger artist than Rocky. Only thing Rocky has on him is beat selection. Actually, not even that, since Q's beat selection is pretty much impeccable for his style too.

ok this is just a minor thing im making into a major thing but

being from ny and being a young kid i was into hiphop culture young and tho i didnt skate my friends did it was probably... 8 years ago when i was 13 i got into supreme and all that and it was tight and i grew up with that and it made me who i am now and i identified with it a ton even more as i got older

but tyler came in and hyped that shit up (not his fault) and just in general blogging hyped it and ruined that shit and the brand isnt as tight as it once was in general so its pretty dead

BUT

they opened a store in london last year and had ghostface come do a concert (which is tight)

and they obviously hooked him up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=nXvd3QZDiws

here he is with a supreme new era. that shit is tight to me because unlike ANY other young cat rapper out right now here is a dude who is all about what the brand is about and hes reppin it because he was given the gear out of respect, that shit is tight and made supreme cool again, just a little bit

but tyga and all the other asian hypebeasts will ruin it like they have been for the last 4 years

sigh

Still not kissing ass.

I'd rather not hate on dude who's life was prob heading into the sewers and found a path to feed his kids and took it.

I respect the lengths of hate you'll go to tho

I don't think it's sonning. He's just saying he owes his career to Kendrick. And honestly it's not like Yayo owing his career to 50 Cent - Q is actually an established artist people pay money to see, he has connects, etc. He's making his money based off his own image right now

cappadonna could/can spit, too bad he can't carry an album even a little bit and has to drive taxis

edit - listened to some of wu block. it just sounds like a dblock album ft wutang vocals. should be the other way around imo. i knew what to expect but that doesnt stop me being unsatisfied.

ghostface on songs/beats like these...

victory laps
sniper elite/murder goons
alex
clipse of doom

ended up being a list of ghost and doom/dilla... but that is what is good. can't help it if doom just brings the best out of him. that's the reason why fishscale was good even if ghostface was weak lyrically and we had to deal with the fucking theodore unit. it was because it was, essentially, ghostface produced by a bunch of indie/underground darlings. and we haven't see that since.

now, ghostface doesn't get the underground to do his beats. he just gets no names to do it.

can you imagine ghostface over harry fraud? over some of the heat alchemist is making lately? if action bronson is killing it, imagine someone who is capable of more than one flow...

"fishscale got the streets hot, all you gotta do is go on the road with dispet, rae, and d-block..."
we got rae x ghost, dblock x ghost... where is camron x ghost?!

as i said in the AOTY thread, Fraud's greatest trait (other than his ear for amazing samples) is his simplicity and restraint. as long as he doesn't lose that, he'll always be dope.

it's simple what he does, but he does it so damn well.

ghost over some fraud would be hilariously awesome...if ghost doesnt phone it in.

i honestly never got the hype about the brand. i own one thing from them. it was odd as hell to see frank rocking it on TV. i just had to own it when i saw the lookbook (either fall 09 or spring 10. i forget.). but their shit is waaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced to be so damn basic IMO.

It's one of the things that always made it hard to be a buck fan. He couldn't stop suckling 50's teats.

mooooose is our number 1 stan. Never have I seen such elegance for one's love of their favorite artist. At first I was about to say he went full retard and he should watch himself, but then I realized that line has been blurred and it's not necessary! No, mooooose is much more than that... plus he doesn't catch feelings and run away when people call him out on his stannery. I salute you mooooose and hope we can breed more stans of your caliber. Now we all now that some posters in here have already crossed that FR line, but I'd like to set mooooose as an example on how to not completely cross it, but implement and embrace it for the greater good of our community.

it used to not be about the hype... it used to be they made cool ass clothing that was good quality... they made stuff no one else was making, stuff that was funny, relatable, obscure, call backing to old bands, brands.. they WERE a great brand and since 07 (after the dipset collab) they lost their way IMO. a lot of their designers left and moved on. total shame and though the brand is consistent they aren't magical anymore.

this song is hot as fuck. ghostface is crazy good. idk how he isn't everyones GOAT, and im not even stanning, this dude just called himself a prestigious gentleman, thats balling

Ghost could do so much dope shit if he gave a shit. I think he has largely creatively exhausted pure soul samples and needs other stuff to spark his interest. I'd love to see him do something with Madlib, like Freddie Gibbs is doing for instance. More importantly I wish that DOOM Starks album would see the light of day, but I doubt it.

When you give Ghost pure soul samples all he'll do is coke rap. I'm not hating on his coke rap, but when he has more varied production he does more interesting...

I wouldn't mind hearing Ghost over something different, dunno why he hasn't been on that super experimental rap tip yet. Plus he's fucking Ghostface so it shouldn't be that hard for him to find someone.

Although I rarely talk about Ghost, he's in my top 3 (Yeezus & DOOM 1 & 2) but he's just lazy as fuck and sloppy w/ it now. that's just the fact of the matter. i don't even get excited about his new projects anymore. really you could say that about most of the NY old guard.

on the Supreme shit, i kinda fell off the sneakerhead & streetwear wagon as a whole. i was really into it from like 15-19 (06-10) but lately all that shit just looks lame to me. i couldn't tell you what's "hot" these days cause all i rock is sweaters and buttonups for the most part. i guess i just outgrew it.

nike has royally pissed me off the last few years w/ their tactics, direction and pricing. i still cop, but just shit that really looks nice to me. i go in foot locker and it looks like a goddamn rainbow in there. i can't rock with that. i like bright colors but they've gone way overboard.

underwater and alex are two prime examples of ghost doing something no other rapper even comes close to

he will never spit coke rap harder than he did on cuban linx so he should really just do something else... after bulletproof he became so infatuated with coke rap and after fishscale, its all he's really done... his verses (from what i heard) on wu-block were the same drab shit but on rivers of blood he went in.

i have hopes for supreme clientele 2 presents blue & cream: the wally era. i have high hopes because i think like the ghostdini album he is really putting 100% in (and he did put 100% into that ghostdini album even if the end result isnt amazing).

plus that album had a tight title, Ghostface Killah Presents: Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City

that shit is tight

Timberland? Such disrespect!
Tracks fucking banging though, didn't anybody else listen?

Did you just call me bitch made? And accuse me of listening to Nicki? Watch your mouth before I come make your mother cook me some breakfast and i beat you like your father should have before you go to school

i was...less than impressed w/ Apollo Kids.

simply put w/ Ghost and DOOM there isnt much to talk about these days. i'm sure if you checked the old threads you could find the few posts i made about DOOM. i didn't always like mainstream shit.

DOOM (on JJDOOM at least) just sounds too bitter these days. Doesn't have the same kind of wit that drew me in. Maybe Jneiro beats weren't the right canvas for him.
That's partly why I dug the Captain Murphy shit so much. It reminds me a lot of DOOM.

it's kind of fitting that the project i desire from both of them is the same thing lol. GhostDOOM aint never happening though. i gave up on that.

VVV lets not get crazy moose.

yo i think come home with me is a better dipset album than diplomatic immunity

even tho it doesnt have real niggaz or i really mean it... come home with me is a better ALBUM, the best album from the dipset camp ever...

welcome to new york city is a damn classic
i can recite every verse to come home with me... jimmy went in...
daydreaming was hot...
dead or alive was HOT, kanye did his thing

and it did have hey ma and oh boy...

yea that album is def better

it's kind of fitting that the project i desire from both of them is the same thing lol. GhostDOOM aint never happening though. i gave up on that.
i have faith itll happen eventually because dooms label knows its free money, that have some material saved up, and eventually they'll get around to it. both dudes are notorious for getting things done EVENTUALLY

I can dig that, he don't sound the same to me either...and i still return to mm...food on the regular

weird though, i thought Apollo Kids was almost universally loved around here, for the window it was talked about anyway...might've just been me. I mean, i assumed forever OB4CL2 got love but ive seen otherwise in recent months

i might had to check out your captain murhpy shit now...and yeah, faith in ghostDOOM isn't overly strong

The DOOM Starks album is largely complete, just waiting on DOOM; which means it likely won't come out soon. I swear the man must be eating good despite being stuck in London. He's sitting on so much material, multiple albums worth of shit, that would make him a lot of dough. I honestly thought Madvilliany was coming in 2012

I also feel like DOOM would be so dope on twitter...

i said apollo kids sounded like a mixtape... no name producers and old cuts.. everyone was HYPE about it... then ghostface came out a couple months ago now they he isnt on def jam... said it was supposed to be a mixtape but def jam wanted an album...

fuck that shit sucked... so painfully bad for ghostface.

ob4cl2 was pretty bad too. ob4cl was my favorite album for a loooooong time and is still my most listened to album, and if i have to pick a go to favorite song/verse it's ghostface on guillotine/swordz

so i was mad hype for ob4cl2

but that shit sucked for the reason every new wu project sucks, a lack of rza

house of flying daggers, pyrex vision (for the whole minute), black mozart, gihad, new wu, surgical gloves, we will rob you.. all these songs were great. really good at the least. most of them rza, some dilla and alc.

but then the rest of it was so painfully boring and generic.

and on the whole ALBUM, raekwon 0 memorable lines, lazy boring flow, no hunger (for such a fat fuck). it was horrible. and this was still in the phase when ghostface was lazy and having trife ghost write everything (which he is seemingly out of, for better or worse, but everything is still fucking coke rap). so every verse he had was mediocre at best. meth and deck had the best verses on the whole album. gza too.

the album was SORELY missing the other RZA songs like rockstars and state of grace. state of grace was super overlooked and underrated.

also songs like baggage handlers from dilla...

the album could've been so much more and that's why i'm so bitter about it. it was a huge disappointment.

edit - 10 bricks is the best wu song in the last couple years, easily. EASILY. cappadonna has the most memorable wu lines in years on that track. "beefsteak charlie niggas eat and they get fat"
and that beat UGH. so crazy good. even ghost came through on that song (his best verse on the album... i think he even took the time to write that one.. yawn)
