I can understand that up to a point. The internet is considered the new local scene where only they know about the artist.

But the internet, specifically music sites like your 2DopeBoyz and Pitchfork, reaches such a vast amount of people that I find it hard to think of Danny as an underground artist.

I still feel like only named artists are being checked out on those sites. Just because they are on the site dosent necessarily mean people are reading about him. You still need to put effort into discovering indie artists, which most people dont.

Pitchfork and 2dopeboyz? Sorry....but just getting a link on there doesn't mean you aren't underground. I see pitchfork naming artists sll the time that aren't even signed to any kind of label. Independent or Major label. Same with 2dopeboyz. That doesn't mean people are checking for them on the site too..

Edit: Thabiz got it

The bloggers are the college radio of the 80's/90's. Different time, same rules.

Sure, some artists will move on to bigger things, but the vast majority will play small clubs for the rest of their careers and release free music on the net. Which to me is underground.

Danny has the right image and personality to blow up on a decent scale, but he doesn't have a single song that would make him a big name. And I don't think he wants to have one. He's going to do whatever.

That's fine but having your name/music mentioned on there is still pretty big. Especially when your music has generally been praised upon, the chances of your music being listened to is a lot higher.

The analogy falls short because the internet's audience is much larger than your college radio stations.
Is Curren$y considered underground because he will only play small venues and releases free music?

But you still need to tune in.

If someone recorded a drunk anteater taking a shit in a soundbooth while being fucked to death by a mongoose, pitchfork would review it and give it a 8.2

Lil Ugly Mane EP best release of 2012 without a doubt for me. First track is so fucking raw, ill, harrrrrd. Second track best story telling and rhyming in recent years

I know plenty of "hip hop head" kids who aren't hip hop heads at all who bump Danny Brown. That is how I know he is at least semi-mainstream.

His features with Childish Gambino and ASAP got him a lot of exposure.

I only heard XXX for the first time like two weeks ago, and it was awesome. Danny killed all sorts of features this year but I never took the time to listen to his full album. I was surprised how well he kept my attention for nearly the entire thing, but songs like Bruiser Brigade didn't win me over the way they did other people. It seems like a song that would be fun live, though.

honestly naw man. juggallettes are like the 9th Circle of Ratchet. im nowhere near grimey enough for that life

Hahaha, I don't think I'm bout that life either.

Was trying to see if that Dreamchaser 3 had some type of release date then I was thinking to myself. It's a bit odd these dudes push out mixtapes along with their albums so frequently. I mean I think it's safe to say they ain't gotta worry about not being a hot artist when MMG seems to put out an album every quarter that keeps their name afloat.

Kind of wish at this point they would save their music for their next album, that way I'm don't feel like they wasted their best songs and ended up putting the worse stuff on their album.

But then I think it's free so..who cares right?

The name of the game today is publicity. Gotta keep your name rollin in some way.

Whether its an onslaught of mixtapes, 1 mixtape & 1 album per year, or a grip of high profile features.

The exceptions to this are basically Jay and Em. Even Kanye, Wayne and Drake put out shit basically year round in some form.

I think Cole will regret laying relatively low in 2012

None of the tracks cole dropped in '12 were good really.he even went HAM on them, but i just think hes boring now

I made a compilation of just about every Danny track from 2012 for another forum. I don't know if I'm allowed to share something like that on here though? Even if almost all of the songs are available for free.

Besides Visions of Home which i liked idk anything else he dropped. That track took his budget Drake shit to another level. If he wasn' t rapping about NC i'd say he just plain out decided to write a Drake song.

Think you can post it no? It's like a mix

Cole shd join MMG. He has nothing conscious left to say, and he spits a decent ignorant verse.

I gave Pluto a shot and wasn't really digging it. I'll try the album again but it wasn't doing anything for me. I like the single though.
