I guess royce really did turn out to be the king of detroit.

Danny Brown
Guilty Simpson
Royce
Black Milk
Big Sean
Eminem

In that order, and I'm probably missing a few people in front of Sean and Em.

Royce is a huge offender for hype squandering. Dude releases and album with Em and then proceeds to do jack afterwards for his own career. He's the father of Schoolboy Q's style.

This new guy Denmark Vessey is about to become my second favorite rapper from Detroit

Banger is the best solo joint from Q since HnC, and it's not saying much.

A lot of what made HnC so great was the sense that the sessions just had an effortless vibe. But I mean in a good way. Like it just came natural. Tookie knows.

Banger seemed like he's trying to force that effortlessness he showcased on HnC. "Do your cool adlib think for the hook Q, people love "yawk"". Q's a cool ass rapper and can kill some features. But his recent output kinda leads me to think that HnC was just one of those one-off recording sessions that the artist cannot rekindle. I hope I'm wrong obviously. HnC was my AOTY, and probably still is running everything since (Yeezus would be close).

I'm talking consistency and longevity. Royce has put out consistently good music, I think you must of slept on him.

Death is Certain is a classic. Build and destroy is a classic. The raw sessions 1&2 classics. RIP DJ Mumblez cool dude. Rock City was unfocused but had boom.
Indy Day should of just stayed a mixtape but listening to that again, he did some shit on tracks there with his flow that Em just started doing today, check out I owe you.
Street Hop and Death is Certain, very good, both got good reviews, additionally.
Hell the sequel is em's best album in the last decade.
All the bar exam mixtapes had some crazy verses, the third I think he kind of watered down.

Danny Brown, I never listened to detroit state of mind but I heard some shit, he had a very monochromatic flow back then that was bolstered by dope bars. I think there was a reason the crack voice got him to where he is today with that in mind.

Guilty Simpson is just dope but he needs more energy.
Black Milk was never a good rapper, but he tries, he's got that stuck drop-jaw descending elevator flow, but i could just be confusing him with Boldy.
Big Sean is the class clown that got famous, his verse hurts me.

You're the first person I've heard that said it was "pretty good"

Some of the metaphors are pretty deep. You need at least three listens to get all the depth of the album. Stronger than I was is that kind of song, its almost TOO real.
