are ya'll gonna play any real metal like megadeth, iron maiden and 90's era metallica tho

whenever a gaffer asks for one of these seshes what I like to do is give them the full rise and fall of the genre.

I play a couple records from the 50s and 60s and 70s that were really laying the blueprint. even some cream records and shit. Then i go into sabbath, then a couple maiden priest dio eras. Then we head over to america for the thrash stuff, then dip over to europe for the founding blocks of extreme metal. after that i like to give some chill shit, some doomy and sludgy records and power metal, then right into black and death metal (main course). And then i finish up with the last gasps of creative breath from the genre in the 00s. The electronic crossover records, etc. then we're done.

My baby momma made hip to some dope Christian metal brehs that's all I'm gonna play in plug... Headbang for Christ, pummel Satan.

What's good from Flying Lotus? All I've heard was that station on Sleeping Dogs with that Ancestors song which was oddly dope as hell

Los Angeles
Cosmogramma
1983

Although I like Cosmogramma more I would listen in that order. There's a definite progression and moving on from certain ideas + tendencies that takes place between Los Angeles and Cosmogramma, and I think 1983 plays best if you know his style already. You can appreciate how much he's grown more when you look back on it that way. Until the Quiet Comes is...not that great. Indulges too much at times. But worth a listen once you've run through the rest. Then you can check out the stuff he just dumps on the internet.

Captain Murphy can really go anywhere you want. Just a dope project that stands on its own.

Shit, I could do it tonight or tmrw.

I'm not inviting metal gaf though cause they're a bunch of Opeth stanning frauds though
jbjfyKuNauhSK_e.jpg
. Jakefromstatefarm also has really good taste and toku has gems too. I'm probably the only dude on gaf with #rare #based Les Légions Noires demo tapes (elite).

I'm out early tonight but would be down tomorrow if folks are around.

the only good xtian metal bands are some of the doom ones. the rest are trash.

I really should type up a primer these days. As for spotify, like with rap the legal work surrounding metal is crap since most of it isnt really for sale in conventional ways. Piracy is highly encouraged etc.

Speaking of metal, what did y'all think of Sunbather back when it came out? I initially didn't like it, but I've been listening to it a lot lately and its aesthetic is starting to grow on me. Are there any other blackgaze albums like it?

I don't fux with black metal shoegaze type joints but you might also like lots of the drone work by Boris esp. Sun Baked Snow Cave.
I was being facetious.

i know but seriously you should listen to Trouble, St. Vitus, and Candlemass. You would really like Candlemass imho.
Will there be Dragonforce in the plug metal sesh?

Idk it would be funny to include as a parody thing but since there's actual piff out there might be a waste of time.

Ya'll care more about metal than Kendrick snip. :scust

I think all of us can agree we've taken countless L's over snippets leaked from KTT and such. They rarely pan out to be legit. Or the artist pulls them. How many fake jigga and ye snippets have we got in here over the years :scusthov:

I have some Trouble on accident, was looking for Troubles mixtape last year and got a trouble album on accident. Was better than the mixtape anyway.

I'm just playin I actually got back into some metal I hadn't checked out in years cause of those posts.

^^^ this would be super dope. There's a barrier with metal that is impossible to get around if you aren't kicking it with metalheads on a regular basis because so much of it is obscure foreign works that I would never find, and if somewhow I did, I wouldn't know what to make of it without just diving in. And like electronic, it's so bloated with subgenres that if you didn't grow up with them you have no idea what they actually describe. A primer like that would prob. help a ton of people.

The only metal genre I've gotten a hold of and really explored was drone metal.

Is it Psalm 9? Borderline classic and a dope album any way you slice it.

TBH it's impossible because like rap, there are a bunch of different worldviews and a ton of infighting among fans. There are the trve fans who are alll about composition. There are the guys who only like it on a more emotional level (just want to headbang). There are the hipsters, who stan all the atmosphere x9000 bands. The DnD nerds who just like it for the aesthetic. There are of course, the conservatives (both in the american and in the english sense of nature-centric). There are the punk-crossed commie grindcore/thrashers. If you were to ask me what kind of fan i am, i'd say the trve mostly with a little sprinkling of all the others. But i'm way more tolerant than most trve fans (if you want to see the end point of this, just check anus.com/metal (no thats not a link to porn)). There are basically a lot of aspects to it and you cant really just throw down a document and say, well x is y and they came from v but has influence from alpha music genre outside of A-Z in metal.

Well you can but it always comes off flat.

Snip sounds cool. I thought kdot would try to come back with a super bombastic single. Kinda into this approach if real.

tbh i'm dragging him but i really like 1983 and Los Angeles, Captain Murphy is ok as well.

LA and 1983 definitely his best releases. I know ppl love Cap. Murphy but I never caught that wave. Reset is great too but if you watched a lot of Adult Swim in the mid to late 00s you probably heard most of it and didn't know.

While we're at it, what do y'all thing are some of the better comeback singles? Bonus points for being after a longer period of time and bringing their career back up further.

I think I Used To Get It In Ohio is up there. Why We Thugs for Cube did really well.

I don't remember who in here recommended Hip Hop Family Tree but thank you! I'm reading Volume 1 right now and it's fantastic, definitely gonna pick up Volume 2 ASAP.

Quoting so I don't forget. Love a good read.

that would be me - i'm waiting on 10/18 for the box set with both volumes & some Liefeld inserts, can't wait! Vol 2 should be a real treat since again there's gonna be a lot more MC's i knew growing up
