Live instrumentation only works with rap in certain circumstances. You gotta be an actual MC on the track, and likewise the track has to provide some variety beyond repeating the same chords over and over IMO. Black Thought works over pretty generic Roots instrumentation because he switches up his flow puts on a rapping 101 lesson.
The only person who does that (today) in the Clan is Meth, who naturally sounded good on this track. RZA also had a great verse but the production is just so bland, so boring. And that hook. WHY? Who is that meant to impress or appeal to?
