I think it's hardly talked about because like The Chronic, it's just accepted that it's great. It's not up for lots of talk and revision because Biggie's legacy is so set in stone. For example, people talk about Reasonable Doubt and Illmatic a lot because they were kinda lesser selling but hi quality albums whose legacies grew with the artists that made them, you know what i mean? Just because people aren't talking about shit doesn't mean it wasn't high quality. What's there to say about it besides talking about individual tracks? I think Ready To Die deserves to be judged on it's own merits; it's an excellent album, one of the best of all time and an easy contender for the best hip hop album of 1994.
I dislike Jay Z, to the point where I can't get into most of his "objectively" good music, due to that. But I still fuck w Reasonable Doubt. Classic album. Eminem on the other hand...can't fuck w his music at all. Even the so-called classics just remind me of being a dorky, angry young teen wowed by that corny breed of edginess.

My point is that Ready to Die USED to be talked about a lot like say 00 decade it was talked about quite a bit, now you have people constantly talking about Illmatic. I'm not referring to back when the album dropped. And I don't get why you act like overrated means it's not great, I've already said no one is saying that. Ready to Die is a great great album but in retrospect that shit was overrated in comparison to the other shit that came out around the same time

Plus Big Pun was a better rapper than Biggie
Yeah, and I'm saying that people are talking about Illmatic because of what's happened to Nas. He finally put out a decent album for the first time since 2002, right before the 20th anniversary of his album. So of course people are going to be talking a lot about Nas and Illmatic. I don't see how RTD is overrated compared to it's peers, the other albums I like even close to as much in the same year are
- Illmatic
-The Diary
- Resurrection
- Super Tight
- Word...Life
- The Sun Rises in the East
- Stress : The Extinction Agenda
- We Come Strapped
- AmeriKKKa's Worst Nightmare
And I wouldn't say any of them are better than Ready to Die. Maybe as good, maybe a little worse.
Big Pun was a better rapper than pretty much everyone except Kool G Rap.
I thought we agreed a few pages ago that XXX was the most overrated album.
I think people overrate B.I.G. in general, though, especially relative to Pac. Always saw the overwhelming Biggie love as an East Coast defense mechanism against Pac's overall greatness, especially considering Biggie's relatively short active period.

How can you not see how RTD was overrated in comparison to those albums if you said you like them about on par with it? lol, RTD was basically the best rap album. Hardly any of those you named are considered that
I love Gang Starr but i wouldn't put HtE up there with those other albums (which I consider classic). Midnight Marauders though, yeah.

Okay let me change my words around maybe you understand this way. Basically there were other albums of the year of 94 that deserved as much praise or maybe more is basically what I'm saying and when I look back or listen to albums that came out of that year I'm personally not all that impressed by the album.

was about to put Return on blast but at least he named some other classics - and how is Ready to Die not talked about? it still serves as a partial template for many albums, and BIG still comes up constantly in GOAT talk, with that album largely known as his finest shit.

- all of which i love, Midnight being one of my all-time favorites - it's not the same. as Esh said, Juicy is still emulated as part of the formula, Big Poppa was a smash hit that is one of the bigger go-to's for throwback joints, etc etc...you had shit for the radio, for the underground heads, for the introspective, the hardbody shit, etc. those 3 albums largely appease one of those groups/angles, not nearly all. in such ways they're not directly comparable.

Sure, you like what you like and you're entitled to your opinion. I just think Ready to Die is rated just fine. Albums made by people with famous careers will always get more dap in the end than albums from the less salient. The internet has gone a long way to ablate that somewhat but I think we still have to look at Ready to Die as a landmark of the genre, it changed the culture.
BTW there were tons of thinkpieces about Ready to Die when the 20th anniversary rolled around earlier this year.
