People are actually trying to move to Canada? I thought it was just a stupid joke. I'm not depressed, just disgusted.

Well, if I want to move to Canada, the most realistic time would be in about 5 years. :/ I could end up in the Caribbean next year, but I don't know anything about their gay policies and Caribbean med schools have terrible reputations.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
My uncle went to med school in Guatemala years ago and is now very successful... cops stole his car once though.

Mexico has numerous checkpoints 40 miles or so in from the border, but I think they're more concerned with illegal importation of cars than anything else... it's been awhile since I went into the interior.

In what way is she immune to the same kinds of attacks that brought down Kerry? Isn't she just another "ultra-leftist Northeast liberal?" And, for bonus demerits, she is a) a woman and b) married to the single most hated man by the right.

If you don't think Karl Rove doesn't have a phonebook-sized set of attacks against her in mind, you're crazy.
Attacks? What the hell could she possibly be attacked with that hasn't already been brought out into the public? That's the thing with hillary, her skeletons have already been dragged out. and she is STILL insanely popular despite that.

as for most hated man by the right.. damn straight he is hated. he lied, dragged the office through dirt and mud, made a virtual joke of the position and openly used it to exploit for personal gain, AND STILL HAD OVERWHELMING SUPPORT FROM THE COUNTRY! Of course they hate someone like that.

I'm not supporting nor would I vote for Hillary, but her star appeal is impossible to deny. As for the skeletons in the closet, I would love to hear what she could possibly have left that the right hasn't attacked her on in the past 13+ years.

There will be no 2008 election

So true, cause by that time Bush will have destroyed the world.

It'll be two out of nowhere relatively unkowns. Put money on it. Hillary and Gore will try for the ticket but they've already pidgeon holed themselves and polarized way too many people so a fresher face will wipe them out easily. I can see Jeb with a shot but it'd bother too many people seeing some kind of family dynasty, McCain needs to totally revamp his image in the next three years to have a prayer (pun, he'd have to win without the the majority of the christian conservative vote) and everybody else in play can just be put in the same box as other career politicians. Some relatively unknown governors may have the strongest shot with the republicans.

Hmm. Now that I think about it, I wouldnt be surprised if Tom Ridge is among the names thrown in the hat for 2008.

Depends on the interpretation. In fact, probably any religion could be somehow used as a philosophy.

Mass. govenor Mitt Romney (r) vs. Hillary (d)

Ahnold will be defeated in the primary when his commentary from Conan The Barbarian is played to a mass audience.

Laughing my fucking ass OFF. How does that not describe Bush?

Edwards political career is over. He couldn't get out of the primaries in 2000 and 2004, and was on the losing ticket against BushCo. I think he's good, but what the hell is he going to do from now until 2008? He's no longer a member of the Senate.

As for Barack, unless the DNC starts pumping him up heavily and he gets involved in some decent committees, he's going to have to wait his turn. Don't get me wrong, from what I've heard and seen, he's a damn good orator, but let's see how he holds up in the Senate before placing the Dem's hopes and dreams on his shoulders in 2008.

I don't think Hilary is going to run, regardless of what the rest of the party wants.

Isn't anyone paying attention to who votes Republican? Since they just proved they wouldn't vote for a white male with a history of military and government service...what makes you think that they would possibly vote for a WOMAN or a BLACK MAN?

the only way Dems would make waves in those states is by putting Dale Earnhardt jr. on the ticket.

umm.. quite the opposite actually.

now note that I'm not endorsing any of this, but discounting it is ridiculous.

she is popular. she is married to arguably one of the most popular presidents of the 20th century.

She has the liberated woman thing down pat.

She has the "wronged" house wife thing down pat WITHOUT diminishing her "family values" appeal (don't ask me how the fuck that works).

She will convert millions of conservative women votes.

It would be almost solely a popularity contest, but one that unless she had another "superstar" as her opponent, she would win handedly.

as for obama, while he is black, I don't think he would have as good a shot as hillary. his name just isn't out there. The only recent chance we had at a black president was Powell. For the meantime it will just have to wait.

Do you realize how many people hate Hillary Clinton? She sure as hell won't convert millions of conservative women votes.

IAWTP.

I said this at the end of the huge election thread, but I'll repeat it here:

It seems there are way too many people groomed and ingrained with extreme and/or stubborn political beliefs from an early age. I'm sure everyone knows people who unwaveringly vote for their party year after year without any hesitation or deliberation. The fact that there only seems to have been a handful of "battleground states" these last two elections is depressing. It'd be nice to see a majority of the states in play rather than essentially conceded before the election even starts.

lol great article. Somebody really needs to do a follow-up story on these people who claimed in the press that they would move out of the country if Bush won. I heard some guy say it on the BBC World Service Monday night.

I know I can't wait to have my innards blasted all across the Iranian desert!! Ok I'm lying. I'm actually hoping that my huge cock can be used as a draft exemption (carrying all that extra weight can be hobbling, not to mention the dangers of tripping with a live firearm in a platoon of friendlies), but I'm not holding out hope. In fact I already have a kevlar condom on back order, in case I'm shipped out.

But then again, why bother with body armor?? I should be looking forward to dying for nothing, or at least under a false premise, like all my coutrymen in Iraq!!

Speaking of whom, I caught a clip last night on Fox News with 2 soliders in Iraq, both of whom were Bush supporters (one was from TX, the other CA). Upon being asked why they supported the president, the first replied "Because I like the stuff I've heard that he's supposed to do", and upon being prompted for elaboration he referenced more "stuff", clearly puzzled for having to reinforce his choice with actual reasoning. The second solider was far more prepared however, and replied that he supported Bush because "He takes good care of his military." Takes good care of his military? Going to war without the proper body armor, with a minimal ground force, with no clear exit strategy is "taking good care of his military"? Do you just support the commander-in-chief regardless of who he is just because he signs the check? Does that mean you'd have supported Clinton even more for not sending his military into a pre-emptive, rushed war with a country unwilling to embrace your invasion? What kind of rationality is this?

WTF. I'm torn. I feel that I have an obligation to this country for providing me a safe, free upbringing and relative prosperity. I do feel a debt to the principles upon which it was founded. In defense of genuine threats on the liberty of my country, I am prepared to lay down my life. But I will not die for what this country has become. I will not die for SUV's, corporate tax shelters, skyrocketing personal debts, irrational conflicts, fear mongering, partisan sound-bite media, bakrupt social security, HMO's and drug monoplies, secret governments, urban sprawl, blind patriotism, fast food, 2 party entrenchment, Wal-Mart, lobbyists, environmental rape, and media conglomerates. I will not die for "protecting our way of life", when our way of life is becoming increasingly more banal and less sustainable. I will not die for vague, unsubstantiated threats against my liberty (as were those in Iraq) when I see far greater, more fundemental threats within our own legislation as per the Patriot Act, and with our own goverment bending to corporate interests.

Iran, or any hotbed of future American conflict had better point an entire nuclear arsenal at the mainland if you expect to find my guts spilled on foreign soil. I will not shed blood, my own or anothers, for a nation that continues the course it set four years ago..

This is bad. Very bad. I only get to live one life and this isn't how I wished to live it...under the rule of zealots. I'm an agnostic but now maybe I'm thinking I should be an atheist. There is something seriously wrong with the USA.

Last night was a stamp of approval to the likes of Bill Frist and Rick Santorum! We may be seeing God in schools very soon to brainwash us all these "MORALS" that won Bush the election. The government has taken control of your mind!

And it can only get worse. Take out 2 liberal members of the supreme court and replace them with 2 conservatives and RvW is off the books. The government has taken control of your body!

With no options of leaving the USA because it is next to impossible to gain asylum from the richest nation on the earth and a draft just months away, it is clear that the government has taken your life.

11/02/2004 will always be remembed as the first day of our last days.

Don't these people realize that if they flee, it'll just cause a drain of rationality on the nation? They can't just come back to vote four years later, so the nation will be forever gripped by the tyranny of the psuedo-theocrats.

How is it possibly you havnt gotten a tag yet. Over the past day youve sounded like nothing but the ultimate liberal doomsayer.

Dig a big hole crawl inside and bury yourself for the next 4 years, itll be easier on both of us that way.

There really does need to be an "Official 2004 Presidential Election Reaction Thread." It'll cut down on all the threads of bitterness popping up.

I'm not happy about it either, but Bush won fair and square. There isn't any point in being upset when he was elected by the American people. We can just try our best to make our own community the best it can be.

My gay friends were upset and started talking about how they should move to Australia or Canada. I said it did the blacks alot of good when they all got up and left America.

I try to keep this as a personal mantra that nothing ever changes unless you help make it change. Personal responsibility and initiative are things people dont want to have to bother with.

You'll have no choice. They'll draft your ass and mine too. That's when I'll turn my guns on my commanding officer and blow his brains out. Screaming "BITCH!"

But what's really disapointing is that so many Americans want this theocracy. It's not so much that I dislike this country, but that I feel pushed out of it. I'm simply not wanted by so many Americans. E pluribus unum indeed

Staying in school should keep you safe from the draft, correct? Look, there isn't a draft right now. We can cross that bridge when we get there, it's best not to worry about such things now. :)

Teh Hamburgular: first off the gays aren't going off to create Gayberia somewhere (Welcome To Gayberia: The most fabulous nation on the planet!). Secondly, like a dozen states voted to make marriage permanently between a man and a woman, You *can't* convince the millions who voted for this that it's a bad thing to do. It. Is. Not. Possible.

I'm not an expert on the matters, but from what I recall when I last looked up the laws on the books, being in college full time will delay your draft induction until the end of the semester.

I don't think there will be military action against Iran, even though I supported Kerry.

Fact is, it would have to happen very quickly and the US just doesn't have the resources to do it.

When Iran gets nuclear capability (they're pretty close it seems), an invasion is out of the question.

Also Iran is a bigger country than Iraq with a much more capable army that hasn't been starved by sanctions.

Saddam was on Bush's hit list for trying to take out his pops, I think the US will be forced obviously to negotiate with Iran.

Guys there doesn't need to be 800 threads about how the fall of society is coming, that people are going to die in Iran, its time to run to Mexico because Canada won't take you, or that Bush looks like a monkey.
