GAF Throwback: Aloy looks a little off.......

She's not a super model no, and that's just fine.

Would love to see how the wives of many members on NeoGAF look like, it would be an incredibly interesting thread.
Why on earth would I want to spend 20+ hours looking at somebody as attractive or slightly better looking than an average GAF wife? When has the word "entertainment" lost its meaning and now I'm forced to be subjected to MORE reality all the time in my fantasy robot dinosaur shoot'em up?

If you're literally making up a character, why wouldn't you want them to be attractive? If you're capturing the face of a real life attractive person, why would you purposely make her look worse? Isn't that an insult to the face actress?

I'm tired of this narrative that just because something is more realistic, it should be considered better or correct. Fuck realism, I want attractive characters.

They cartoonified her face even more. Only person that looks like who they scanned is the black guy from the Wire, which I guess was on purpose.

Kind of a low light pic since we were out but still.

And I dont mind posting pics since hers pics are on my Twitter feed anyhow

You mad bastard sharing an actual pic. Congrats on the hot wife.

Careful what you link here, Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem will get rather excited.

His last words to me earlier today were, Extra rump means more hump. "lollipop_disappointed: no idea what he meant.

Aloy looks beautiful, not the most beautiful but she's beautiful. And I'm 100% that she looks more beautiful than most of the posters' GF/wives here, if they had any to begin with.

I'm more interested in what your maids look like to be honest Bo. In my mind, it's 100% like porn would have me believe.

They only needed to copy real life person of Hanna Hoekstra and everyone would be ok with that. Put on her wildling make-up, hairstyle and clothes, don't care but they made her face uglier, no doubt about that. Question is why?

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 Wow, lucky guy.

Aloy seeking some BBC that seems to be hard to find in that world, mixing her juice with water. Seems like it was too bitter for him though. Her plan didn't work now she can't tell him what magic sauce was in that cursed bottle.

I really don't think she grew fat. Her arms don't really look fat to me. I think the cheeks look a bit swollen and off to me. I see her model has a similar face, but much like the Returnal model, I think they aren't quite capturing the look correctly.

She really looks like a strong woman.

Thank god for Japanese games.

Mate, that girl looks like 99% of females in Japanese games. Seems like they're using only one generic model/mannequin.

Also she looks Asian, Aloy looks more northern-European or maybe Dane? You know, US citizens are mostly from European-origin not native Americans.

I'll preface this post by saying Aloy is by no means ugly, just a little odd looking. I also do a bit of character design for games and have some opinions on what "Looks good".

Aloy's issue is that that didn't really "Stylize" her much. If you just model a real person's face and put it in a game it doesn't always look great, especially for women. I believe this phenomenon is due to the uncanny valley, or possibly FOV. What you do to fix this is adjust some of the character's features to make them more pleasing to the eye (not saying the real model isn't attractive btw). The issue here is current politics don't like "Idealization" of women so this stylization isn't happening much in games anymore. Thus you have Aloy, and Jesse (from Control). Two characters based on attractive women who for some reason don't look as good digitally.

Aloy has another issue that makes her look odd, its the hair style combined with her round face. It just doesn't work and accentuates how wide her modeled face is. Kind of gives her a man face. Personally I would have thinned Aloy's face and given her a more petite jawline, essentially making her look more like the ORIGINAL NuLara design in facial shape.

I'll add something else to this. Yvonne Strahovski is a stunningly beautiful woman, but when they put her in Mass Effect it was a travesty... Miranda Lawson had the same wide face issue Aloy has.

Not really seeing what's wrong with her. She looks a bit different from Horizon 1 but I'm guessing a lot of that is tech and motion capture related.

Not everything is some political 'bu bu sky is falling they taking away pretty womens' bullshit guys.

Yeah, honestly other than a handful of a few human NPC's they kinda of all look bad. They went for a qausi-"realism" look with their character models and they just plain don't look good compared to the more "techno-fantasy" models of the robo-dino's.

I didn't understood why they had to tweak Lara face then, I don't understand why they had to tweak Aloy face now.
They tweak Lara's face because it was "traditional", each classic tomb raider had a real model who would go to advertise the game on tv etc.

They haven't tweak Aloy's face… it's the light! Anyone here ever took a selfie and tough damn I look sexy… it's the light, it gives an illusion of different shapes… etc

You are going to see this A LOT in games going forward that use real life actors and actresses due to politics. Games that uses metahuman like character creation pipelines, or straight up character creators are way better (IMO) as they allow artists the ability to create their own "vision" for the character. I am actually against strictly using the faces of real people, doing so is good for facial motion capture though (which is why they like to do it).

The Aloy in game model is fine. It's the dyke hair cut that's not doing her any favors. Here's a photoshop someone made of Aloy on reddit with different hair

Yup, I mentioned this in my post above. In my experience certain face shapes are not good for pulled back hair as the over accentuate jawlines, and cheeks. As I mentioned I would have thinned out her face to match the hair, but that would have made her not match the real life woman she was modeled on which is a no no these days.

Looking back, the 1st Horizon had really odd facial animations. This time it's a lot better but there is still some oddness to it.

As for the actual face model. I don't mind not super model looking men or women in videogames. It's actually a great thing. Not all heroes look great. For the games that strive for realism, I'd like the games to reflect that with their models.

However, given how athletic and how powerful Aloy is, I do feel her face should be less round and have a body that's more muscular. They can make her look as ugly as the ugliest MMA female fighter, I don't care much. But if you strive for graphical realism and use 'real world locations', then you should stick to it somewhat.

Translation: Haha this actor is (Emmy Tacky?), the difference here that she looks like her real looks in the game (I think he meant the opposite). You really think Aloy is beautiful? I'm starting to question the beauty of Omani girls.

Yes I think she looks beautiful (not the most beautiful indeed) :) Plus I always look at the fuckability beauty first before facial beauty. :messenger_sunglasses: Also we got plenty of hot Omani girls as well.
