GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

Sith im so glad you posted as I can relate so much. A load of my xbox 360 friends have been so enticed to own a PS4 from the exclusives and noticeable multiplat differences along with the hype train behind it. They ended up going with the X1 because they said they don't want to lose there gamerscores. As far as enjoyment and getting the best experience possible out of games they are simply tied down by gamerscores. One of my xbox friends was saying its kinda pathetic but its like hes addicted to his gamerscore and is hooked on increasing it.

Yes this is exactly the same for people on my friends list too. It's sad really that their once passionate hobby has devolved them to play games in such a way. A play style that they didn't want originally. That something like a silly meta game has determined everything for them when it comes to gaming not the actual quality of the game or the hardware itself or anything else for that matter.

Then you also get the casuals who went in completely blind into this gen and bought a xbox one just because they had a 360 without reading the facts on both, automatically assuming PS4 would be like PS3 when it launched, suck online etc and they're both very "similar" graphically according to them, so it won't matter. An excuse I've heard a lot is "Oh I have a 32" TV I'm not gonna notice any difference anyway between Xbone and PS4" completely disregarding framerates, aliasing better lighting etc. Tomb Raider/Watch Dogs being good examples. I know people who went in thinking Battlefield 4 would be awesome on Xbone because you know its a new Xbox and it's BF!

You really can't make this simple decision on your own?

If it's a single player game, go with PS4.
If it's a multiplayer game, chose the console your friends are gonna play on.
If you don't have friends or want the best looking multiplat go with PS4.

PC for single player multiplatforms.

The respective exclusives for each system obviously. Then if it's a multiplayer multiplatform, i get it for whatever system my friends are getting it for. Destiny and Diablo 3, I'll most likely get for PS4.

Why do you care? Let people have fun the way they want to on whatever console(s) they buy.

Staggering amount of pettiness.

Multiplatform games, I go with my ps4 since it's usually (so far) the better version (1080p/more graphical enhancements).. I just gotta get my friends list up to par with my xbox list (360 last gen)

Here's my physical game disc collection for both (bought both at launch)

PS4: killzone (exclusive), infamous (exclusive and collecting dust), ac4 (collecting dust), mgsv:gz (don't get me started with this overpriced demo), watch dogs (still play here and there) and mlb the show, which I play every single day I can.

X1: nba 2k14 (because I can play against friends who also bought an x1) and titanfall (stopped playing after a week and it's just collecting dust now)

Basically, I use my x1 to watch tv.. I don't remember the last time I turned off my xbox one to be honest.. It's been on for at least two months.. Unless you count the update as a power cycle. And it's super quiet.. My ps4 is quiet with watch dogs, but when I play mlb the show, the shit sounds like a generator.

Tldr; multiplatform on ps4, and xbox one for its exclusive games.

Pain in the ass paying for two yearly subscriptions though, even if it's like $110 combined

On the Xbox One I only plan to get sports games, exclusives, or games that I want to play with my friends (in my situation all my buddies prefer xbox, so i'm alone on ps4). Everything else goes to the PS4.

No I never implied anything of the sort, I am saying you can have a cross gen friends list on both consoles but you can't play games with anyone but new console owners. So it is a clean slate no matter which console you go for unless all of your friends have bought and Xbox one

Many multi-platform gamers will likely be older because of cost. I know for me, and likely many others, gaming is a way to stay in touch. I play Xbox with old buddies and several family members that live across the country.

I buy games on pc.

Consoles are for exclusives.

If the game is console-exclusive, I'll go where the game performs better.

My friends have all platforms.

Accept no compromise.

Lol so people who say PS4 for anything because their/most of their friends are on it must be unauthentic too then.

Great logic

Most of the time, i'll probably default to ps4. However, I really prefer the xbox one controller, so if there isn't a huge difference, I will buy it on the xbox one (recenlty ordered wolfenstein for xbox one).

I usually go with Xbox One because I prefer the OS and functionality (streaming, snap, Skype) as well as the controller (unless it's a platforming game). My PS4 is mostly for exclusives.

It seems kind of odd that it's mostly junior members stating the "multi - Xbox, single - ps4" thing. Sure there are plenty of XBONEs out there but with the sizable lead the PS4 has the numbers don't seem to support XBONEs XBL being as far ahead of PS4's PSN as this thread would seem to indicate.

Maybe latent Xbox fans are more likely to buy both consoles this generation than latent PlayStation fans?

This is exactly my situation. I am an older gamer and my friends are on the East Coast and I recently moved to the West Coast. They like to play multiplayer on X1. No one is saying the PS4 is bad for multiplayers, I play where my friends are playing to keep in touch. If they were playing on the PS4, I would play multiplayer on PS4. Simple as that.

Friends > Loyalty to a Company

I feel a bit sad this gen because I became more attached to Xbox experience for everything last gen and only used my PS3 for exclusives and movies. Now the tables are turned with games being better on PS4, I'm finding it a bit awkward using my PS4 as the primary console. But it's not that big of a deal.

no one is doing that? a ton of post on this thread is saying if its ps4 single player only multiplayer X1. That was the huge stigma from last gen and its definitely carried over to this gen regarding allot of peoples views

They're stating personal preference. They're not making sweeping claims that PS4 sucks for multiplayer. This is a thread for people to state their preference. Not a thread for you to cast aspersions on people who have an opinion contrary to your own.

Multiplats for the Xbox One. Id rather play with the superior controller and love switching around and snapping between apps, tv and games. PS4 and Wii U for exclusives

I only have XB1 right now but I plan to get a PS4 when TLOU us released and I have already thought about this. Basically I've decided if the difference is greater then 180P and primarily SP I'll purchase it on PS4 otherwise I will stick with XB1. The reasons being that I have more freinds on XB1 that I play with, I'm a massive achievement whore where as thropies (or steam achievements for that matter) never seemed to grab me, and it's simply easier to use since I don't have to change inputs and it turns everything on for me.

Also I don't get people citing dedicated servers as a reason to get XB1 over PS4. Aren't they largely the same for third party games?

Multiplats: PS4/PC. Usually PS4 because my PC needs an upgrade and all of my friends own PS4s. No point in getting a worse version of the game since none of my friends have only an XB1.

Exclusives: take a guess.

Another factor is a lot of my friends are casual gamers and a majority of the games they play are online heavy. They may buy the occasional giant AAA release like GTA but they mostly play online and while certainly Sony has a great first party their best stuff is mostly single player. They may have a multiplayer component but it's mostly single player focused. I know my casual friends it comes down to Halo, Gears, and most recently Titanfall, etc. vs Killzone. They just aren't interested in Sonys online multiplayer exclusives. They get a couple hours of playtime a night and they like to spend it socially instead of in a campaign.

For the most part I get the PS4 version, but there are some exceptions.

I'll probably get Evolve on Xbox One, for example. Something about it just says "Xbox" to me, not sure how to explain that one though.

Then of course, I'll get mutlipayer games on Xbox One if that's where my friends go. That could happen with Destiny.

my opinion is contrary to everyone who is a gamer. This is the 8th gen not the 7th so whatever opinions peopled formed from last gen regarding online multiplayer between the the two consoles is dead this gen. That's my point. There have been plenty of vague replies regarding preference I am just saying if those vague replies still hold weight from opinions they formed from last gen this is a whole new era. Not everyone went into detail one what they prefer.

Xbox One for Online Multi-Player games for dedicated servers and online experience.

PS4 for Singleplayer multi platform and exclusives games.

I rest my case kelsey my opinion was for people who think like this. Many Xbox One gamers carried this stigma from last gen with them to this gen, its actually been the deciding factor on why many went the X1 rout over the PS4. I don't mind what console preference a man or woman has but I do have the right to speak up on and correct ignorance.

My priority flow chart is this:

Is it exclusive?
-Yes
-> Then buy it there, why are you asking me.

Where is it best (among PC, PS4, and Xbox One)?
-> Then buy it there, why are you asking me.

It's not best on any, where should I get it?
-> Just get it on the system you have credit on, harddrive space on, or feel like padding the library a bit.

smh

It really doesn't. Microsoft pays colleges students to talk about their product. Usually you get to meet your quota with Facebook and twitter, but places like neogaf count as more market penetration. I hated that job.

So what are you trying imply here? That those stating a preference for the Xb1 are paid shills? And admitting that you were once one?

Wow.

Not how the world works. Past experiences and service quality play a significant role in most future choices. MS is still enjoying some benefits from revolutionizing MP in console gaming. Just because PS4 is as good, if not better, does not mean that people wont continue with what has been a stalwart for them in the past.

I agree with that, it wouldn't make sense for ps4 people either

Three years into the gen I wouldn't really make this point but after the first seven months I don't feel like friends list would be a huge priority in the decision making when everyone essentially starting from scratch

I am sure there are many genuine cases where people got their consoles along with friends, and it is a good reason to buy a multiplat game. But it feels like every second post in this thread is using that as a reason which I find bizarre

Can't we just have one thread on GAF about next-gen consoles and have a mature discussion about them? What's with all this hatred and lack of empathy?

continuing on what has been stalwart for them in the past and totally ignoring the fact that ps3 had dedicated servers as well is pretty ignorant eh? Allot of xbox fans often thought back then that dedicated servers didn't exist on the ps3 and also enjoyed games that was p2p on the xbox in one instance then trashed the ps3 for not having "Dedicated Servers" lol

the whole xbl live vs psn argument is so last gen. And even last gen when xbox fans was shouting that they have dedicated servers allot of there main played multiplayer games utilized P2P so I never got that argument from them. They spoke of dedicated servers as if they was the only ones that had them and used it as a justification for paying for xbl at the time. I played Sony exclusives on dedicated servers, MAG, Socom, Gturismo to name a few.

You really seem to care way too much about the console war.

Lmao, I have a gaming PC, X1, PS4 and a Wii U and as far as I am concerned I won't be told by a junior how I prioritize my gaming selection.
