Maybe sci-fi channel will pick it up? I mean they aired Gurren Lagaan.

GL was licensed by Bandai who had the TV rights which were used to put it on SyFy.

Let me put it this way. With the amount of money Gainax wants for it's shows, SyFy could produce many of it's shitty, yet addictive live action shows and get more viewers in the end anyway.

FLY AWAY NOW FLY AWAY NOW FLY AWAAAAAY

Had a manic grin on my face throughout the entire episode. Great stuff. My only concern is whether they can keep it fresh for long.

Really cool animation, well worth watching just for that. But I was starting to get bored by the end of episode 2, hopefully the third one will turn that around.

This show - it's the first try at a modern era, westernized anime. did it hit it out of the park? No, but if this show aint in AS in a year or 18 months then the dubbers got no balls and no guts and a bunch of hick prick douchebags.
I'm pretty sure dubbers would love to put this on tv. In fact, dubbing companies would love to put anything they can on tv. But ultimately its up to the network themselves and most of the time they say no, so....

Still, I can see this showing on Adult Swim, especially since the 15 minute episodes would make for a good schedule stuffer. But at the same time I can easily see this show being a one time April Fools joke or dropped after airing 5 episodes.

On that note, I think this show could somewhat be saved by a really good script writer with a liberal translation. Kinda like what Funimation did with Shin-chan.

It's not like the jokes would even need to be "localized" like with Shin-chan. It shouldn't be that hard to bring over.

That was pretty rad, but I hope the show develops into more than just episodic one-shot stories. This is a good premise for that kind of thing, but in order to keep me interested I think it has to do more than that.

People here actually want dubbers? Come on.

Liked the show, animation and music is off the hook. Though the story will have to pick up sometime soon, if it stays with one-shots like this, I dunno.

:O just watched the first episode. That was completely brilliant in every way imaginable, I was in stitches :lol Had some of the best usage CG usage I've ever seen.

If there was a series that would work well with a dub, this is definitely the one.

Stocking is totally cooler than Panty BTW, just sayin'.

The only thing Panty is good at is having sex and losing her pantiesweapon at the most inopportune time.

Stocking played chicken with an oncoming 18-wheeler and sliced it in half in one stroke.

There is no contest.

And didn't even kill the ghost. When push comes to shove, Panty is the one who has to get shit done.

Anime fans, always making lists and creating divides where there was none. Panty and Stocking, in perfect harmony.

Stocking > Panty.

Yeah but she has no personality :lol

That counts for a lot when it comes to interest. It is only the first episode after all. If this thing goes anywhere I fully expect them to expose some strengths and weaknesses in their personalities down the road.

What a pile of shit.

Talented animators everywhere should bow their heads in a moment of silence and reflection.

One step forward, 10 steps back.

More like 'I'm sad'.

And yeah, I am sad. Sad at the current state of affairs within the animation industry/field.

RIP - Quality animation

But P&S had quality animation?

It really sucks when people make stuff you don't like, huh?

Panty & Stocking has subsumed all other animation, and all future animation will be Panty & Stocking by default. A sad day indeed.

I think you're confusing animation with everything else (art style, writing, etc.). It definitely isn't for everyone, but the animation is pretty damn good even if you aren't a fan of the content.

I'd definitely have to agree you.

Almost everything about it is an homage/parody of western animation. It's really just one big jab, and it wouldn't look or be animated the way it is if it weren't for the TV shows pumped out by CN, Disney, or Nickelodeon. Even the delightfully crass sense of humor seems, to me, to be more than likely inspired by Ren & Stimpy, Family Guy, Invader Zim, etc. I also think it's important to take those qualities into consideration when judging both it's content and animation/art style.

If it keeps up the pace it's probably going to become my ideal perfect parody.

So far Panty & Stocking is my favorite new show this season. Followed closely by Star Driver.

Good to know I'm in the top-tier.

She greatly outbitched Panty in the first half, I think, making fun of her bathroom pains while saying she deserved to shit her intestines out.

Man, the movie references in the episode titles are all over the place. The first half of episode 2 is titled Mitsubachi no Zawameki, Noisy Beehive, a reference to Japanese cult-classic Tsuito no Zawameki, Noisy Requiem, a "radically nihilist, crude masterpiece". The second half of episode 2 is titled Sex and Daten City. :lol

She uses a SWORD.

That makes here automatically cooler.

Also she can dual wield. Maybe if Panty wore two sets of panties.

Panty is superior for the sole reason that she actually wears panties (and then takes them off). Stocking's "stockings" are leg warmers dammit.

Sounds like Gainax should just hang it up and call it a day. Game over.

Well after watching the first two episodes. I think I'm going to just stay away. It is pretty much just like Dead Leaves and well it just isn't my type of humor.

That's strange because I honestly didn't really care for Dead Leaves. I didn't even really find it funny but PSG I thought was hysterical :lol

Also, Jacob > Edward. Wait, what?

Jhonen Vasquez, an American comic artist who created the animated television series Invader Zim, has posted about the new fall Gainax television anime Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt this week. Specifically, he talks about the Panty & Stocking character Chuck (pictured at right), a green dog who bears some similarity to GIR (pictured at far right), a robot in a green dog costume who appears in Invader Zim. In the post, he comments that Panty & Stocking:

Well, here’s that Gainax show that took GIR out of the whorehouse he was working in and gave him a new job! It’s nice seeing him get some work, but I gotta say it’s a bit on the simple side for my tastes, what with the fart and shit jokes, but the ending is pretty ridiculous, and Gainax produces some of the only Japanese animation I can stand without wishing I was the drinking type, so I’m looking forward to more.

As for GIR, I don’t talk to him much, not since that episode of Intervention where I was called in to help talk him out of his heroin and whoring, but that was pretty much a bust. ”I DON’T HAVE A FUCKING PROBLEM” was pretty much all he screamed during the whole thing and just anyone mentioning him gets that running through my head like an unwelcome reverse mantra. Stresses me out, man.

I’m not gonna lie, I get a kick out of the stories I hear about him disillusioning fans who don’t know just how much time has passed since he starred in that ZIM show, the kids running up and asking him some silly thing, making sure to pepper it with quotes or words they think will make them more relatable to this beloved character of theirs only to get vomited on and, berated and then assaulted, sometimes sexually, by a dried up, ghoulish shade of a one-time cartoon darling. That’s just funny.

He seems a little underused in those new show, but I guess that’s about as good as they can hope for with what’s left of his mind after all the heroin. Hopping around and making little grunting noises is a far cry from his former glory days, but what’re ya gonna do, ya know? At least it’ll make the kids happy.

Vasquez also notes that Chuck "seems a little underused in those[sic] new show," but carrying on with the joke that the character is, in fact, GIR, he surmises that it's all the creators can expect from "what's left of his mind after all the heroin."

If Gainax is the only Japanese animation you can watch without wanting to drink, you're not watching the right anime.
It's because he doesn't have the awesome people at anime-gaf teaching him about all the good anime out there!

He might not start drinking if he takes our advice but he'll definitely start sniffing glue.

Episode 6 will be written by Shigeto Koyama and storyboarded by Shinji Higuchi. It's supposed to be something... "special" in terms of stupidity and insanity. :lol

The show will certainly be very, very varied; episodes 3 and 4 were surprisingly different from the first two. It was still stylish as fuck, though. Shouko Nakamura's episode 4 was amazing.
