Episode 4 was quite different indeed, considering it didn't involve any ghosts at all :P

I liked Stocking's outfit in episode 4, but I didn't see any nice looping animations for me to make avatars out of, and I was hoping to make more like the one I've got.

Cute. They went all in with their wackiness in the first episode and then went to standard story-of-the-week like episodes found in the old American cartoons.

I guess these episodes are the real test of whether or not you actually like the show though. I'm definitely in.

Ep3 was pretty garbage. Really bad writing, not funny, didn't even look good. Ep4 was much better, but it was so.... nonsensical it was hard to follow what point it had. The obnoxious "look at how vulgar and crass this show can be" thing is wearing thin too. It's not funny, it's stupid.

A lot of it feels like it was written by a 12-year-old who just discovered swearing.

I don't think it helps that at times that the show is surprisingly mean-spirited. Like with the geek character, or how P&S have no redeeming characteristics whatsoever.

Yeah I think I have decided where I land on this show. It's shit. I will never watch it again. This season is full of fail for me.

I also think the animation is terrible.

I wonder how long it will continue to hold true that odd numbered episodes are worst of the pair? Probably not much longer.

Episode 3 was as unfunny as Episode 1 for me, 4 was an improvement of sorts.

It doesn't seem like 4 will be representative of the show, though. I thought it was boring because all of the plot points were so telegraphed, you could tell what would happen 5 minutes before it did.

The main problem (aside from not being funny in the first place) after four episodes is that the show is not grounded to anything in any sense. This makes it hard to care much about anything being shown. Daten City is not a location with real people and real problems. It is instead like a stage set with no purpose other than to allow the creators to randomly animate whatever they feel like doing for that week. It wouldn't be bad if that was actually entertaining. Except it's not. It just feels stupid.

duckroll-chyan, what you don't understand is that liking something people, specially someone like Branduil, hate makes you look cool and hip. You guys are just doing me a favour with this charade!

I don't know, it wasn't hard to genuinely feel sorry for Stocking by the end of the fourth episode.

The only person I was feeling sorry for by the end of the fourth episode is myself, for wasting my time with this piece of shit series. Yawnz. I probably won't even bother posting about this series anymore. I should just drop it and stop talking about it, because it's not worth discussing.

That's good news. It'll be nice once all the people who've been shitting on it from the start go away :P

There's no point in discussing the various complaints, as they're based on a premise that I don't agree with (that the show is bad). Nothing about them matters to me, and there's no chance of anyone's mind being changed. It's just a waste of time.

I think his/her point was that most of the criticism amounts to "I think it's bad because it's unfunny" and there is no discussion to be had because there are no points being made. In the end, we're just left with you posting and nobody reading what you write and us posting and you don't really reading what us write.

How is that different from any other thread?! :lol

There will definitely be epic flame wars to come all over the internet over the quality of this show, that's for sure :lol

Possibly not, as most of the impressions I've seen have been fairly positive.

The show would work better as 5 min eps or as a videogame like the Scott Pilgrim game. It's essentially a 4-koma, aka 1 joke skit per ep. At 12 mins it just feels stretched out since everything is completely shallow and one dimensional. The animation is also a let down considering the pedigree. There are occasional great animation bits (ep2 train, ep3 missile shooting) but most of it looks par for course.

Simple and fun, while steering away from all the moe and predictable-adventure-shonen with sub-par animation quality and generic style that has been massively shat by the anime industry lately so I don't really see why could anyone hate on it.

Feels like there's still hope for the anime industry after all.

Panty's way of speaking is really really strange to me. I can't pin-point the accent. I only lived in Japan for a year, so my ear for it ain't great. (and I only lived in Tokyo.) Either way, I've never heard anything like it. So masculine. Any of you long-term Japanese residents can explain it to me? Is she supposed to sound North American?

The impressions seem to be centralized in various sections of the internet, where places like ANN and certain popular blogs hold it in derision while places like SA and this forum (elitists aside) are eating it up like candy.

It feels good.

Why would you feel sorry for her? Just because she got screwed over doesn't mean she's suddenly a likable character.

I think you're onto something. The episodes all start to drag after a couple of minutes. I never thought 12-minute episodes could be full of filler before.

She was genuinely enjoying helping Panty after a while, man!

Not a big fan of this episode, outside from a few moments (like the condom gum thing, ewww :lol)

It really does seem like they just want to curse and be as adult as they possibly can just cause they can be. Sometimes I don't even know what the fuck is even going on. The dog serves absolutely no purpose other than to eat casettes in this show. I hope it's either better utilized or killed off.

Anyways, I'm a big fan of this shows artstyle and music so I'll be sticking around until the end. I hope we can get some awesome parts later on like the car chase from the first episode.

Stocking is adorable too :3

Episode 3 felt pretty standard, but i still enjoyed it nonetheless. Episode 4 on the other hand was surprisingly funny, all the crude humor totally worked for me, and i haft to admit in comparison to the previous episodes i actually chuckled a bit. And yes, the show is still stylish as and consistently entertaining.

Oh, so it's about wanting a circle jerk. Well then, I guess I'll stick around to prevent that from happening after all!
Good threads like these just aren't any fun if they aren't any diverse opinions.:lol

I wonder if they're going to be adding some sort of "plot" to the show. :lol
Well, there are the coins. The box Garterbelt held up in the first episode had room for twenty coins, and as of the end of episode 3 they have fifteen including the three that were already in the box.

Will something happen when they get twenty? Thus far the show has no continuity, so it's hard to guess. Episode 4 in particular shows they're not afraid to ignore even what basic plot the series has (angels hunting ghosts to get coins), as it touched on absolutely no part of it :P

I think it's pretty funny, tbh. There are some clearly idiotic moments in each episode but overall I like it.

Also, I'm in agreement with the "Stocking > Panty" statements.

Heavy accent english cursing :lol

Wha da Fack?!

Kinda wished there was a ghost to fight at some point during the movie episode.

It's crude and crass but I'm enjoying it. All the swearing and cussing is great. A low action set of episodes but that's fine too. Episode 3 was a little dull but 4 was a lot better.

Will keep watching.

The thing with the bees was meh, the Sex And The Daten City thing was funny in parts and shallow in others... I hope next week's is good because this was a disappointment compared to the first episode.

I'd definitely have to agree you.

Almost everything about it is an homage/parody of western animation. It's really just one big jab, and it wouldn't look or be animated the way it is if it weren't for the TV shows pumped out by CN, Disney, or Nickelodeon. Even the delightfully crass sense of humor seems, to me, to be more than likely inspired by Ren & Stimpy, Family Guy, Invader Zim, etc. I also think it's important to take those qualities into consideration when judging both it's content and animation/art style.

If it keeps up the pace it's probably going to become my ideal perfect parody.

Watched the first two eps. As far as the homag-ing is going, they've knocked it out of the park. Of course they've also brought (so far) the good and bad about these structures and I understand not everybody likes the ad-hoc, plot-less episodes with occasional low-brow humor.

I'll keep watching because I enjoy the humor and structure and I did enjoy many of the above listed cartoons as a younger one.

This is not confirmed. It's entirely possible that Newtype has incomplete listings, and only listed the first story for that week instead. In fact, that is very likely because I believe Gainax already confirmed the series would be 13 weeks x2 episodes.

I hate how incomplete and ambiguous the NewType listings are for Panty & Stocking; is it really that hard to just state the role of each person credited? Anyway, I just just think it COULD be a 24 minute episode because it is by the main staff of Ootsuka/Imaishi/Nishigori, which makes it feels like a SHIT GETS REAL type of deal.

It's not Newtype's fault. They list what they're given by the broadcaster. If you look at the credit listing on the official site, it's presented in the same way. Newtype can't print information they do not have unfortunately. Since it is printed in advance, they often don't have complete data for every show. Star Driver ep6 for example doesn't even have a synopsis.
