The problem with recommendation is that the nature of comedy is such that it works differently for everyone. What is funny for one person might be less funny or even unfunny to someone else. What really turned me around was that by the third week it became obvious that the staff were willing to do ANYTHING in the show, instead of sticking to a particular comedy style/theme/flavor. Because of that, I kept watching, and it has been very rewarding because for every episode or two which I found lame or forced, there were just as many episodes which made me ROFLMAO. :)

The entire show seems to be an all-purpose cesspool of whatever the hell Gainax feels like doing at the time while holding things together via character-driven comedy and a paper-thin premise and setting.

Given that it's... holy shit it literally is a Cartoon Network show. :lol

Just watched the first episode. God damn that was awesome. I was afraid it was going to be some typical moe bullshit. Couldn't have been more wrong. Glad I was.

See, I don't mind giving things a shot. I gave AD ten episodes and decided it was just not for me.

I'll give this 4 episodes, since it seems to vary so much in quality and humor. Too bad I need to log into CrunchyRoll to watch...

I'd say give it 6 since an actual plot starts to form then. Of course, that's only if you're enjoying it at least somewhat up to that point.

If you give this 4 "episodes" (which is to say, the first 8 episodes, in terms of segments), if you don't like it by then I totally recommend dropping it. But odds are, you won't be able to stop after that. :lol

What is this nonsense about there being a plot? :lol

I was ready to drop it after the first two episodes (four segments), but I glad I stuck with it. You still get the occasional boring/silly segment now and then, but it's really awesome when it hits the high notes.

I think I'll rate each episode so far with an A/B/C/D scale. A being something I really enjoyed, B being something interesting but didn't quite ace it completely, C being something average which I feel didn't remotely get to the full potential of the material, and D being a turn off for me.

Note, not all A/B/C/D episodes are equal in value in my eyes, but it's a general guide as to how I feel about the episode in terms of being entertained.

Ep01 - C [Gross, gross, really gross. Ick!]
Ep02 - B [Fast paced, action packed, lacked soul.]
Ep03 - D [Terrible pacing, not funny, kinda stupid.]
Ep04 - C [Not as funny as it could be, felt a bit repetitive after a while.]
Ep05 - A [Great pacing, tight writing, solid character gags.]
Ep06 - A [Most creative episode yet, there are no words.]
Ep07 - A [Best comedy episode so far, really solid pacing of jokes.]
Ep08 - C [Kinda boring, kinda stupid, not horrible though.]
Ep09 - D [Completely repulsive and disgusting. Was also stupid.]
Ep10 - B [Relatively creative, very visually interesting, but boring.]
Ep11 - A [Crazy action packed insanity.]
Ep12 - A [Solid theme with serious dedication to surpassing expectations.]
Ep13 - A [Good humor, good variety in art design, relatively relaxing to watch.]

Fair enough ratings, although I'd probably give Episode 8 a D. I thought that was the worst episode of P&S and completely forgettable.

Episode 11 and episode 7 were the best. All the rest were pretty enjoyable for me, even the gross ones--I don't have an episode I really hate, although 8 I suppose is one I could do without. :lol

I might give it a D if I ever watch it again in full. So far I've been wise enough to stop watching the complete segment after Ep7 ends each time. I've rewatched Ep7 a few times now, but I never bothered to continue on to Ep8. :lol

I'm reminded that I'm not grossed out as easily as other people.
The only episode that has grossed me out in this series is episode 9.:lol shit thinking about it now is grossing me.:lol

Yeah that's the worst offender. It's not even a case of something gross being used as toilet humor like in Ep1. It's literally Itagaki thinking that the super gross thing in question is actually something he can attempt to make erotic and funny in the process. GROSS.

So far I haven't been grossed out at all so I'm curious as to what you're talking about. :lol I watched a few of the episodes out of order.

They got the best part of the first transformer movie in there! :lol

Talking about the slow motion sequence.)

Behelit. :O

Ep. 7 was pretty good. First half most excellent. Second half, more demon twins please. :D

And damn, I want the OST. Music is boss.

That's strange since I was in a paint/echat yesterday drawing Panty & Stocking and the Dirty Pair girls with some people.
Actually, when the girls were being harangued by Garterblet for expenses I was also reminded of Dirty Pair.

I feel it's pretty safe to say that every time an episode repeats the same joke for about ten minutes while adding nothing new was weak.

God damn episode nine WTF.

Yes, that's the case for episode 3 and 8 especially. I think most people will agree those are the weakest episodes. But I was referring to some episodes which simply turn me off because I don't really like the theme. Episodes 1 and 9 come to mind, but it also applies partially to episodes 4 and 10.

Another great episode. Not as good as last weeks. (but how could you possibly top that?).:lol

Episode 12 was very well-done and played well to my expectations from the start. The logo and art design was spot-on.:lol

Episode 13 was even better i think, the stripping scene was well-directed and awesomely executed another thing of note was the use of music in the "job" scene early on in the episode. Really loved that.

Here's hoping the series keeps up this level of momentum in the next 13 episodes!

We're getting a zombie episode next week, we're getting an episode by Ryochimo the week after that, and the week after that we have an episode by Masayuki as well as a 3-episode-in-1 Back to the Future parody in the same week.

November is going to be a very good month for Panty and Stocking. :D

At first you were very disinterested and disillusioned by this series, but now that you're hopeful and excited about it, it may be a warning sign. O:

Same. I've enjoyed most episodes because no matter how immature they are, like the extreme example of Itagaki's, at least you can feel that they had tons of effort put into them. Episode 8 has been the only episode so far to feel genuinely lazy and half-assed.

Transformation mode figures coming in Spring 2011!

I wouldn't buy those... my power level isn't quite up there yet.

But I'd buy one of those nendroid things for Stocking, though. Seems like a perfect fit.

I don't really like nendroids... I like a well crafted figure with a good amount of detail. I won't buy if I find too many flaws in the photos for the actual production run.

Also, is it just me or is there an unusually high ratio of rule 63 fanart for this series?

I usually queue something up on my computer whenever I'm eating dinner at home. I make a mental note to not eat anything as I watch this show though.

Yeah, continuing through the series I really think my tastes line up with yours Duckroll. I'd probably rate most of them the same as you.

Same here. It all too stylized for it to affect my gag reflex. To be honest, Dresden's avatar grosses me out more than anything on this show yet. :lol I love that Simpson's episode but every time I see it brings back painful memories of the McRib.

I just noticed you didn't mention the episode with storyboard by Tsurumaki. What the fuck, man? :(

Haha. I'm just bitter that Anno probably won't get an episode with Sadamoto before the end of the series! :P

This week's episodes were really good. Transhomers was a particularly weird and silly one. The part where Panty and Stocking
screwed up their transformation speech
made me laugh. The Stripping had a funny concept, and Gainax seemed to have a lot fun drawing them in a bunch of different outfits.

Don't mind if I do. Thanks!

I really got into it. This show can be remarkably captivating at times, like some of the better episodes of Gurren Lagann. I love the mixture of action and sexuality. Ok, we're gonna fight, I'd better take of my panties for this shit!

favorite moment is still when stocking takes off her panties and hands them to her sister

you know shit was getting real at that point

Wasn't it stated in the show that they're bigger than Panty's?
Yes. In an interview the director stated that in terms of bust size it goes:

Scanty > Stocking > Panty > Kneesocks.

The more you know!
