I'm guessing the writer organization is going to be:

-Hiromi Wakabayashi for random nonsense episodes
-Hiroshi Sato for character-driven comedy episodes
-Shigeto Koyama for clever gag episodes
-Masahiko Ootsuka for action-driven episodes that may have character development and story development

Fixed? :o

Kind of? I enjoyed both Hiroshi Sato episodes. Besides, I'm sure Masayuki will make Wakabayashi's dull jokes work.

I'm still glad Ootsuka is writing 3 episodes in a row, though.

Break down of Pansto writers:

Hiroyuki Imaishi (director): Ep1 script, Ep9, 11 plot concept

Masahiko Otsuka (co-director): Ep2, 5, 7, 11 script

Hiromi Wakabayashi: Ep3, 8 script, Ep4 plot concept

Hiroshi Seko: Ep4, 10 script

Shigeto Koyama: Ep6 script

Shin Itagaki: Ep9 script

You forgot Otsuka's episode 7.

Anyway, Otsuka's episodes are clearly the best, with great characterization and genuine thematic consistency, but I personally really enjoyed all episodes except for Wakabayashi's second one. And I only enjoyed the first Wakabayashi episode because it was stylish and well-animated, the actual script was more a collection of disconnected vignettes than an actual script.

I didn't forget, my brain couldn't handle the awesome, so it broke down. Edited it in now. :)

Diet Syndrome is the best episode of the series so far, especially since I went back to revisit previous episode, and it's the one which holds up the best. Really, really funny stuff, and great pace mixed with awesome visual gags. Panty's "peekaboo" sequence with Stocking's slimming belt was perfectly executed. :lol

That absolutely killed me when I saw it. :lol

The best part about such a gag is knowing exactly how much of it can be "overdone" so to speak. It's like grilling a steak, you want it to be just right, not too rare and also not overcooked.

My reaction to the gag at the start is "haha, gotcha!", then it zoomed out into that ridiculous side profile view with the hilarious bug-eyes and shit. Then she did it a few more times and I'm like "hahahahaha okay, stop!" then she just randomly did it over and over really really quickly resulting in me just losing it and laughing and laughing and THEN Stocking snaps at about the same moment the viewer would have snapped at the peak of laughter.

SO.FUCKING.PERFECT.

Looking forward to more eps! Also.. P&S inspired fan art has been really good!

I'm partial to when Stocking is rolling down the highway crashing through cars like a bowling ball and it cuts to Panty running on top of her. :lol

From the staff listing, we can probably expect the following:

12: No writing with stylishly animated action sequences. (Wakabayashi with Akira Amemiya)
13: Great writing with nicely drawn, cute-looking characters. (Otsuka with Satoshi Yamaguchi)
14: Decent, maybe great, writing with expressive cartoony-looking characters. (Sato with Ryuichi Kimura and Yusuke Yoshigaki)
15: Great writing with consistently drawn characters. (Otsuka with Tomita and Ikuo Kuwana)
16: Great writing with... I really don't know what to expect from Ryochimo's episode, but I'm sure he will deliver something good.
17: Great writing with great framing and cinematography and, again, nicely drawn, cute-looking characters. (Otsuka with Tsurumaki and Kimura and Yamaguchi)
18: No writing with crazy direction from Maasayuki and interesting animation from Nobutaka Ito.
19-21: Something clever, maybe. (Koyama with Tomita and a new Gainax animator)
22: I'm not really sure; maybe the current staff listing is incomplete or something? (A 24 minute episode by Nishigori and Hirokazu Kojima alone, really? I kinda want to see a crazy Kojima episode in which he goes all out with his more realistic, sketchy style, but I don't see it being a 24 minute episode.)

In the end, we can just hope Amemiya's episode is all action so we don't need to pay attention to Wakabayashi's "story".

I think ep22's listing is incomplete, yeah. Either that, or it's going to be something really, really weird. :P

I'm really hoping that Amemiya and Masayuki completely balance the lack of creative writing in the two upcoming Wakabayashi eps. There's a good chance even a poor script can be easily made up for with masterful storyboarding in a show like this, since a lot of it has to do with timing, pacing, and visual execution. Hope hope hope hope.

Well, I replaced it with a different image =P Regardless, there is some great PS fan art floating around out there. Some of which I was reluctant to post due to bare asses showing or whatever.

Because of this image I realize now that Stocking's swords have the same pattern as the stockings. :lol

That would only seem natural...given that, her stockings are her swords...

You know what's really impressive about the production design on the show? Panty has had like 12 or more different outfits so far. In some episodes, she has multiple wardrobe changes in the same segment! That's some serious dedication to variety. :D

Poor Stocking doesn't have as many outfits. ;_;

the best gag in the show so far was stocking's "fuck yo snacks" in the beginning of the episode when they were fighting with each other.

for some reason i found that hilarious :lol

The animation of the fight scene with the demon sisters was so incredibly awesome. The stuff they did there would have blown an entire season's worth of animation budget for some series. :lol

It's true - in most animations, even big budgeted series and OVAs characters typically only wear one outfit. Even through multiple seasons. PS FTW!

Fucking chuck..just waiting there for the snacks to drop.

I finally got a chance to watch the first episode. I love the manic style that Gainax has been using for the past decade. But man, this show is dangerous to watch if you live with people not so... accepting of its humour.

Anyway, the ending theme. That sounds straight out of the ending credits of many '80s anime series.

Okay, yeah, did not enjoy episodes 1 and 2, but I read how things really pick up at ep 5. Considering skipping 3 and 4. Great animation, shallow crass poorly executed comedy.

Caught up on the last few episodes. Good stuff.

When is the soundtrack coming out, anyway? The stuff used in episode 6 (11?) was badass.

I was actually surprised they went for the new look designs while also referencing the classic ones. Although I actually preferred the second half.

The second half of the second half was kind of like watching a cartoony Dirty Pair episode.
That's strange since I was in a paint/echat yesterday drawing Panty & Stocking and the Dirty Pair girls with some people.

If there is something you can't fault them for, is that Gainax was very through in their parodying of Transformers.

They actually got the original Japanese voices of Optimus and Megatron. :lol

And I just finished watching today's episode. This show is on fire.

Could not stop laughing at the first half once things got underway.

Everyone loves silly gaijin. Funny how no one can tell it's not even the same people in each pic.
I'm pretty sure that at least 3 of those 4 are the same.

Definitely above average episodes this week. What made it really effective this week is that they weren't totally LOL gag episodes, but very focused gag episodes on a singular theme each. The Transformers parody was pretty much spot-on perfect, and the sex scene was just woooooooooow amazing. :lol Ep13 was pretty good too, and it served to reinforce and develop the direction the series' "plot" is heading in. It's good to see that the demon sisters are now taking on the role of recurring villains while remaining completely episodic. It's a great match for the American cartoon style the entire series is generally following in format.

Can't wait for more of this show. With the Wakabayashi curse broken, the sky's the limit for this series now. I'll believe it if someone from the future told me there won't be a single episode in future I'll be disappointed in. Hopefully Gainax can keep it up. :D

I can't believe I'm considering watching this.

It gives me vague vibes of Tartakovsky, and I loved his shows. After seeing duckroll's transformation from "this show sucks k thnx" to "omg amazing", can anyone tell me where I should start? I'm really busy nowadays and I have no patience for stupid shows.
