Game Informer: "Ryse: Son Of Rome Is As Fun As Dialing Phone Numbers" (ouch)

In fact, it's so pretty that the frequent interruption of pre-rendered cutscenes is baffling. For some reason, the video compression on the cinema sequences is incredibly noticeable, making the pre-rendered stuff look worse than the real-time graphics. The story is also by-the-numbers: a tale of revenge that telegraphs nearly every aspect of the story.

What the fuck Crytek?.. Can't even get the presentation right?

I thought this game didn't have pre-rendered cutscenes?

....whats the point?

He sounds like a total fanboy with the way he spoke about it. Nevertheless, I will try Ryse later when I can pick it up for $2.00. Shouldn't be long by the looks of it.

Yeah I said this has the potential to be the most shit on launch game, it's graphics were great but it is getting the launch treatment, i.e more exposure and hype than it actually deserves.

Crytek has 9 studios with over 600 employees. They have contracts in games, military, construction and movie industry, so go figure.

Do they any game deisgners though? They make pretty things that play awful. Maybe they should just revert back to what they did with Crysis 1. They went from awesome to awful very quickly.

Also, if Forza 5 is 'stunning', why does all of the media they've released for it since E3 belie that fact?

I feel ashamed. I had to look up what 'belie' means. I understood your gist from context but I've never heard that word ever.

Thanks for increasing my limited vocabulary

I bet if this game had QTEs with a half naked lady protagonist you guys would be calling it 'fine' as well. But since it's just a bunch of button mashing with buff men in armor, it has little value to GAF.

I'm onto you...

Ebay Heavenly sword here I come.....

Wait a second... Cut-scenes are pre-rendered? A certain Ryse thread led me to believe that people claiming that, were crazy.

FordGTGuy must be in a coma.

But I thought it was all about gameplay, and the games the push visuals and linear cinematic experiences aren't very good?

Flawless victory.

I'm surprised at all the praise towards Ryse's graphics though, given how terrible the animations are. It's a game that looks great in screenshots but much worse in motion.

We've always known at least some were as it was mentioned by Eurogamer at E3. One can hope that this will be solved in the disc release given the 47 GB size. The statement has always been that they used the same assets as gameplay without being altered (ie, The Last of Us's beautiful cutscenes)

I haven't spent any time with SP, but I really enjoyed the MP experience a few weeks back in Chicago. I might buy the game for that alone... (whenever I get around to buying an xbone)

Yup...just as i suspected. I kept saying this game would get boring and repetitive and people kept dissing me for saying that. Well it was not very hard to see that this game looked repetitive and dull gameplay elements. I knew it..and i am sure many others felt the same as i did but yet people kept making this game like some Holy Grail.

To be fair though..i did think the story would be bad ass..i guess i was wrong with that part.

Sad for Xbox One fans who were expecting this game but also very much expected. I'm yet to see the Crytek game with bad graphics and good gameplay. And yes, I played Far Cry and Crysis 1, but, apart from the eyecandy, their storyline, shooting mechanics and even the nanosuit were meh...

Honestly, these lads should invest in their game designers more than in their graphics engine team.

Crysis 2 is great FPS, one of the best this generation in terms of gameplay and feeling.

Crysis 3 is a little worse, but still quite good, especially if You prefer stealth approach
You have to play them on Hard or Very Hard though, to really appreciate.

They have problems with encounters design though, thats a fact. This make their game good to great, instead of awesome.

Nah, they are too busy pushing free to play games like Warface. I think the days of Crytek as AAA dev are numbered. Looking at their output over the last few years I think we don't have to be too sad about it.

They're working on Homefront 2 and there's the rumored sequel to Ryse that one imagines depends on how this does. And Cryengine seems to be getting licensed quite a bit these days although that doesn't really relate to their AAA status.

I wonder how a Dynasty Warriors fan would react to Ryse?

I hope this game doesn't turn away other game developers from using the same setting for awhile.

So wait that part from the story trailer is prerendered? Because it looks too good compared to the gameplay.

Can Microsoft blacklist GI for this? lol

No. They can go after smaller sites by denying them access to review copies/interviews/blogger breakfasts, but GameInformer has a circulation that's bigger than Time and Sports Illustrated combined. They're not getting blacklisted anytime soon, if ever.

It's fine. I've been outspoken against Ryse in the past as well but if it turns out as well as Heavenly Sword I think people would be pleased.

With either interest or disinterest unrelated to their opinion of the DW series given it plays nothing like Ryse and Musou games in general don't play anything like other hack and slash games.

No surprise here. I always likened it to Heavenly Sword. The combat looks just plain boring and the graphics dull outside of the cutscenes.

I'd say it's the best looking 1080p/60FPS racer maybe outside of Project CARS which I'd argue is a somewhat obscure game still. I do think Driveclub looks significantly better (IF these new short clips they released lately are actually how the game looks now, and that's still a big if IMO) but the game is delayed, and is also 30FPS.

I also think F5 has a really clever game startup structure in that it shows you your car in a super detailed mode right before the race starts, and even though during the actual race nothing looks as good, you're still left with that impression of crazy impressive looking car that you're now controlling.

So wait that part from the story trailer is prerendered? Because it looks too good compared to the gameplay.
Of course, as are probably all the other 'big' cutscenes in which characters talk to each other etc.

I seriously doubt this game even has the depth of a dynasty warriors, which obviously isn't the deepest combat out there but pretty much every character has a unique weapon and unique move sets.

This is like Batman-lite combat.

I just figured with the one handed comment there might be some hope for the game with the tiny DW fanbase. It definitely seems like it will sell many copies only to disappoint.
