That's the odd bit, if they are in fact pre-rendered which compression would imply then one would imagine it might not be a final thing? Game is 47 GBs so it shouldn't be an issue. Stream's quality was exceptional and I didn't notice any compression in the cutscenes although of course that's hardly a good way to judge things. Did notice some banding in the multiplayer intro though. If it's got video compression, then it's a video file, it doesn't really take an eagle's eye to spot video compression artifacts at less than ideal bitrates. Crytek guy was probably thinking that cutscenes are not a CG rendered in Maya or something like that. They are created with their own engine. Bigger surprise is why the hell are they poorly compressed when they don't have to worry about the DVD size limit anymore.
He said that particular one wasn't, and even then I'm not sure I believe him because the Skip prompt took time to show up (indicating that loading has finished). I don't think he was asked either, it was just a comment he made when they were gushing over CryEngine.
Skip prompts don't really mean all that much, lots of games using in-engine cutscenes have them. DmC would be an example that I played recently(although it has some pre-rendered ones as well).
