I can't stand these comments calling the Lord of Light followers a cult. Followers of a religion where higher powers act directly isn't the definition of a cult. Might as well call the Starks a cult with that criteria.

I don't think he meant it like that. I think he meant that because she's a high born and he's a lowly bastard with no parents or prospects, she can say she's his family all she wants, but she'll be his 'lady' in the sense that they aren't equals. Like he'll serve her. Which is true. Even if she took him to Riverrun, no one knows he's the bastard son of Robert Baratheon there. They'd think he's some poor smith who helped her, give him some gold and keep him around as a servant.

Great catch. Due to my cultural prism I took that comment of his in a completely different way but you show why that's obviously wrong.

The sword fight in this episode was good, other than the constant camera cuts, although that helped cut out some of the "acting".

Generally yeah, but mostly, the common folk couldn't care less about who is on the throne as long as there's peace.

(I didn't think that was a spoiler but if people want I'll tag it)

Anti's right on this. Technically the people were alright with most of Mad King Aerys rule because of Tywin's competency as his hand. The people also loved Rhaegar.

Yeah I think in the eyes of the followers of the Seven or the old Gods, the followers of the Lord of Light might be considered a sect considering their size (in Westeros)

However there might be a lot of followers elsewhere, so it probably is indeed a full blown religion.

The worshippers of R'hllor are a foreign religion in Westeros. They aren't a cult or sect. They are a major religion in other parts of the world, with a number of worshippers.

Thats why I said in the eyes of the followers of the big religions in Westeros.
But yeah it is a religion.

That doesn't make a cult a cult.

Yes it does.

a cult is a religious practice that is considered outside of the mainstream by the rest of society.

Actually if you go by the textbook definition(and logic), any religion is a cult, but thats a whole other matter.

A religion that has a number of followers, and potentially the whole area where it emerged, isn't considered a cult academically when it starts going to other locations. At that point it is a religion and being in a different area makes it a foreign religion.

Finally I saw this episode and god damn how Nikolaj Coster-Waldau just secured his Emmy in the bath scene. So bloody good!

I missed it, too. I remember the small council meeting and Robert wanting to kill Dany, with Ned opposing. I didn't catch that Varys told Ned that Jorah was the informant, though. Sheesh. So why the hell did he protect her when the assassin finally arrived?
Also in the episode that he found out about Dany being pregnant he took off right away to some city. He said he would catch up with the horde. Probably sent the info across the sea. This was before the poison attempt and the dragon birth. I'm sure he's 100% behind her now after everything they've been through.

I realize I sped through the first two seasons now. It was just so damn good I mowed through it in a few days and am paying the price now. I missed a lot of smaller details which are now much bigger. I remember being lost during the masked woman scene in Qarth but I figured it would make sense later. I guess I had already missed the point lol. Looks like I'll be rewatching those seasons soon.
Episode review in gifs.
Your gif review was spot-on.

Does anyone believe Jamie's story though? The guy is a grade A manipulator. My first thought was that he is lying just so he can gain Brienne's sympathy.

I believed him.

A cult can have sacrifices, having sacrifices doesn't make it a cult though. That's not the defining feature. Cults can exist without them.

But Cersei admires her father (or at least admired) and loathes Tyrion.

as you said, admired. she got taste of the power and would rather not give it up and marry another guy she doesn't care for. i bet she would like to be the mastermind behind all of this and not her dad who does not really care for her anyway. yes she loathes tyrion but she could use him for this and later frame him and get rid of him. two birds one stone.

yeah, I'd rather be backstabbing my father than marry Sansa too

i doubt his girlfriend would like that. he is in love already, what does he need sansa for? He loathes his dad, as soon as he smells what cersei is up to he will be onboard.

Fuck, I've just twigged that Shae is Sansa's handmaiden. For some reason that didn't occur to me watching the episode. Awkward!

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Well shit...I totally called the Tyrion and Sansa marriage bit last week.

That's a first for me. Hah!

Awesome episode for sure

This episode did finally retroactively make that earlier tyrion shae scene this season make sense. Because it seemed kind of pointless at the time

Why is Arya the greatest character? Every action you want everyone else to take, she actually does, and everything you with everyone would say, she says. Plus she had great scenes this episode. Her exchange with Gendry was such a "d'awwww" moment and her running after the hound with a knife. I just. Even her actress is incredible. *Fangirl*

One confusing thing from last night....so Rob is going to ask the Frays for help? The same family he screwed over by marrying a different woman than he was supposed to? Err....

It explains where all the wildfire from last season came from. They already had it.

It also makes me wonder if the city is now a ticking time bomb if so much of it is still hidden away. One badly placed explosion could set off a devastating chain reaction if the stuff still exists in the city.

Did they (Catelyn) promise all the Stark children to the Frays? If they did, surely this does not bode well for Arya, seeing as the Brotherhood is taking her to Robb. Will she get married off?

EDIT: I have just made myself very upset with that thought. :(

I thought after last week, that this weeks episode would be a bit of a damp squid. I thought wrong.

Tywin was a boss, as usual. I look forward to every scene he's in. He executes a verbal smackdown like no other.

I almost thought we'd see Ned brought back to life as a result of Arya's conversation with the brotherhood without banners. This god of light dude is one powerful being, but I guess thats what being a god brings.

Still not liking Ygritte. And I have to admit I kinda reeled back when she got naked, the girl looked malnourished. Loved their conversation after though, Jon's clearly a cunning linguist.

Jamies got guts, withstanding that operation. There's a joke here involving Surgeon Simulator but I can't quite put it together.

Sansa is swimming with sharks, and Littlefinger just went from untrustworthy to flat out dangerous. That girl is gonna get reamed, but it won't be her intended that does that.

The two dead Lannister boys were unfortunate casualties of war. No puns on that one, the whole situation is sad. Westeros is a cruel, hard place. Rob's heart is in the right place but I think he made a mistake killing Karstark. We'll see what happens with Casterly Rock.

Jamie and Brienne's conversation was riveting. There's a far more to Jamie than meets the eye, but he's still an asshole.

Great episode.
