True, that god can do that, but as Beric Dondarrion said, he comes back missing a bit of himself each time, so eventually he'd become an empty shell. And God cannot bring back completely severed limbs--Arya asked about her father and the Brotherhood basically said no.

Jamie should probably look to the alchemy and forbidden sciences for help there.

Yes i agree, lord of light nope, but alchemy or some crazy ritual will bring that evil hand back, or some implant even a golem hand type of thing D:

I don't see how liking Jaime as a character means all his sins are forgiven.

He's definitely up there as one of my favourites.

Yes, me too. Especially now since he's revealed his intentions of being known as "The Kingslayer". I've always been a fan of his shamelessness. Losing his hand has seemed to humanize him at the same time so he's quickly become one of my favorites.

Also, the Lord of Light seems to have some sort of plan or presence in Westeros. If Ned Stark isn't part of that plan, then I doubt the god would bring him back. Beric and the Hound obviously still have a purpose.

I wouldn't consider Jaime irredeemable. An example of that is Joffrey.

Jaime's character has been built up well - his highly pejorative Kingslayer moniker is undeserved, he's showing more obvious signs of empathy and even sympathy towards certain others, and his hubris has all but melted away after having been covered in his own shit for so long and having his sword hand cut off for being a loudmouth. He has probably the clearest and most progressive character arc in the series so far.

Last reply before I leave work. The swordfight might have been a bit disjointed, but seeing that sword ignite like that was still just crazy to me.

With that and Mellisandre's discussion about "blood", It makes me feel like the Lord of Light is something that people probably shouldn't be invoking.

I'm going home to rewatch the episode now, but didn't Varys say the guy who castrated him was a Red Priest as well? Nasty business...

True that.

However, Jaime was also one of the first catalysts for the entire conflict. If he hadn't tried to kill Bran, Cat wouldn't have arrested Tyrion, Tywin wouldn't have started attacking, Ned wouldn't have been stabbed (also due to Jaime), Ned also wouldn't have been IN King's Landing when Robert died, and basically the North would've been fine while King's Landing was busy politically infighting.

Deleted for potential spoilers, I apologize and will refrain from making such posts in the future.

The death of Jon Arryn was still suspect, and Ned was still invited to become the Hand, so the Lannister children conspiracy would likely still have been discovered. But I agree that Catelyn would not have imprisoned Tyrion and possibly even stayed in Winterfell, which would likely slow down the events as we now know them (if not completely alter them).

I'm a book reader, but someone is complaining about how Ygritte looks on the show?

Goddamn, fuck right off and leave the beautiful women for the rest of us.

King Baratheon may not have even died--he went out on his hunting trip because he was tense and angry with all the politicking and Ned's refusal to go along with assassinating Dany Targarean.

Are you talking to me? I didn't post a spoiler, dude. That was a reference to a scene from season one, doggie.

In any case, for sensitive purposes I deleted the post. I don't want to post potential spoilers.

That happened in Season 1, but in the show I'm pretty sure what you said hasn't been revealed. So yeah, spoilers.

Aren't book readers banned from this thread? Seems like that's what it says in the OP.

Apparently book readers just don't get it. They inadvertently let things slip by because it's just hard to keep track of whether or not some small moment on the show happened or if it's from the books.

And it's funny, apparently they also like to mock and insult the hell out of us for our speculation or the fact we choose not to read the books and yet, they love coming here or chatting with show readers or keeping up with the thread.

That being said, anyone know what the Karstarks sigil was? Did we ever see it on the show?

I deleted just in case. I'm assuming you're a book reader too? Thanks for the heads up and keep up the good work with monitoring for spoilers or my sincerest apologies for saying that.

The speculation is what drives book readers here. I separate the books from the show but just realized how hard it is to have a discussion with y'all who haven't read the books like I have. The reason I'm here is to read the speculation though. That fascinates me. In the future I won't be contributing and will lurk from afar.

Its frightening how easily people are able to forgive someone who pushed a child from a window so casually.
He also banged his fucking sister which is sickening. Yet he's still a cool, interesting character and will probably be a badass even with one hand.

Oh no, I have no problem with book readers at all. You guys know more about the universe or story than any of us here. I just wish you guys would be extra vigilant and try to think whether it was something you saw in the show or the books. I know it gets hard, especially because the show is now in mid season 3 and even show watchers forget things like the varys/Jorah angle.

Please keep contributing just be extra vigilant. And it's good you like the speculation, but a few hours ago, when I was on mobile GAF, I accidentally opened the other thread and started reading and the posters were calling us illiterate or making fun our of speculation. Once I saw massive spoiler tags, I quickly exited out and realized it's the book thread. But I didn't know people were making fun of us in there like that.

I'll stop rambling, this thread is great. It doesn't say NO BOOK READERS ALLOWED, just no spoilers or book discussion.

Calm down, there isn't some community of hateful book readers mocking and insulting speculative show watchers. Having a bit of a laugh at a plot prediction that you know is pretty far off the mark isn't a personal slight against the person who made it.

Karstark's banner is a white sun, it's been in a few shots of encampments and the like.

That's very true. But if I recall correctly, that was only one of Cersei's attempts on Robert's life - previously, she had tried to goad him into attending the Tourney where someone would've been paid to kill him. And Robert adored hunts, so the hunting trip assassination attempt may have occurred under different circumstances! I'm sure eventually one of the attempts on his life would've paid off for Cersei.

Not upset at all. So it's just a basic white sun? Or is it like a moon to mirror the Stark wolf?

Eh, if it's been shown in the show I'll just Google it. Should be safe in the images.

Not saying you were upset, but your wording was pretty strong and you were also generalising about all 'book readers', so I figured it was worth pointing out that it wasn't the case.

The HBO site/viewer's guide is probably your best bet for images like that. The GoT wiki is also only updated to the most recent episode, but it does include a section on each page about the differences between show/books. Generally no spoilers beyond what's already been seen in the show though, and you can always skip over it.

In my experience the Game of Thrones wiki seems pretty good about containing lots of information while not revealing things that haven't happened in the show. I don't necessarily check it that often, but when I have it's been useful and spoiler-free.

'Course it's still a public wiki so you have to be a bit wary, and they do have an "in the books" section with most articles as Normal Bird noted, but those are clearly labeled and usually sit at the end of the article.

I'll check it out. Would be nice to get a show specific place to get all the information. Thanks for the suggestion.

so I've been looking at the GoT map, what was the big deal with The Twins again? You can walk to the other side of the river just a hundred or so miles north of the bridge!

also, I really hope we'll get a glimpse of Braavos eventually

It doesn't really show up on a lot of the maps, but the area north of the Twins is a big swamp.

This map is from the books and shows the area a little better (no spoilers, it's from the second book - but don't click if you're super-sensitive to anything book related.)

Man, I keep picturing the Iron Islands way up north for some reason. Must be the shitty weather.

I wish this show could find a way to make Westero's geography a bit easier to picture/understand. The map at the beginning of each episode is nice, but it's not enough.

me too, I always thought the Iron Islands were north of Winterfell, I must have not paid much attention during the opening of S2.

I have to say, I was pretty amazed by Stannis being a loving father. Well, as loving as Stannis can be...

I got the exact opposite of that, he was as an awkward, cold man as he's always been. Hey, let's tell your little girl the intricacies of modern politics so she thinks one of her only friends is evil.

Stannis needs to get his shit back together. I was hoping between his crazy ass wife and his daughter making more sense than anybody that it would convince him of how nutty it all is. But I guess not.

Hey, I dunno, this Lord of Light stuff might be worth something now we know it can RESURRECT THE DEAD.

didn't anyone else get the impression Stannis is beginning to have doubts about this whole Lord of Light act? He seemed to be taken aback by Melisandre's indoctrination of his wife

I actually get the feeling that Stannis is failing with this Lord of the Light business because he's not completely devoted to the religion.

He was born and raised on the Old Gods and Stannis really is just a cunt version of Ned Stark.

Lord Beric sparked his sword on fire! Stannis pulled an already burning sword out of the old gods and he could not even hold it for long!

Sorry if that was already obvious :x
