I feel like it is 2 weeks in a row w/ weaker endings. Unfortunately, next week will probably go down too. The question is will next week have an ending that will bring everyone back in time for week 9.

Robb Stark screws Telisa for the entire episode while his men wait for orders on the battlefield.

At the end of the episode, he says "That was awesome! Now let's attend a wedding!"

EDIT: NVM. I read that incorrectly.

FWIW, TVBT#'s is saying total ratings with the repeat came out to 5.95.

Hmmm, mother's day must have had a significant impact because that's a pretty steep drop from the previous week. I thought it would stop climbing, but not drop that much.

Probably didn't help that the Survivor finale was on, too. I watched that live, saving GoT until later.

Finally managed to watch it today. Tywin and Joffrey in the same room yeeees! Been waiting for ages for that scene. Tywin hardly even bowed haha.

Brilliant episode again, Oona and Richard nekkid... totally would. Both, at the same time.

I've got no real complaint, this season is very good so far.

The only thing I don't get is showing Theons torture every episode. What's the point?

I don't know why you would spoiler that since his arc has been happening for weeks now. That being said, Theon has only visibly been tortured 3 times. Once in the beginning for a few seconds on his foot.. then the scene with his finger.. and this most recent scene. I don't get how people are calling this overkill.. or how they can't comprehend how it's purpose is two fold: establish BOY as an insane madman and a real villain for people to hate; and to establish the reason for Theon's eventual ADWD
mental and physical transformation in the upcoming season.

The point is that his transformation into Reek wouldn't have nearly as much impact unless the audience is fully aware of how much he went through. How else would they explain to the viewer why Theon is suddenly an unrecognizable, beaten down decrepit named Reek, looking more like an old man than the son of Balon Greyjoy?

There is no "Reek" in the show prior to Theon's change, so the audience doesn't have anything to go by to know just how far he's fallen when he re-emerges from the Dreadfort.

There's a reason that the books don't have 3+ chapters that are "and then Theon got tortured some more." They are entirely unnecessary.

You do realize that books and television are completely different mediums, correct? Writing for one is not the same as writing for the other. You can't just show up next season and say "Hey, this guy tortured Theon while you were away. Hate him." It's more effective to show it. I find it hard to believe that people find these 3-5 minute scenes with Theon to be "overkill" or "too much". Like honestly, get a grip. Or admit that you have a weak stomach. :p

Yes, but that's because we already knew who the fuck his torturer is. The tv show doesn't have that because they decided to take him out of season 2. They trapped themselves.

Not really. I find out who the torturer is and honestly it was a big, that's it? They didn't need to build it up so much.

Theon's body expression when he sees Boy in the latest episode made the entire thing worth it, really fantastic acting.

Holy shit, what!?!?

Of course they are. That doesn't change the fact that these scenes are accomplishing nothing except being torture porn with a bit normal porn, in this most recent case.

We already know that Theon's captor is a fucked up horrible guy that loves to mess with his captive. We saw that in their first interaction where he broke him out, killed his own men, and then led him right back. Those scenes were great. We found out about this new character and even got some development from Theon as well. The rest of these scenes have just been the same iteration on "Theon thinks he's out of the woods... oh no he isn't! Torture!"

Edit: Okay, you added some more.

I'll admit there is some value in seeing the physical horrificness of it all at least once. The finger flaying last episode did that. But we've had fairly involved scenes with Theon in these last two episodes and gotten exactly no progression except his increasing mutilation.

Welcome to the Dany subplot. Enjoy your stay, and enjoy coming to hate that stupid character.

Judging from people's reactions, I think they're accomplishing the goal of making people sympathetic to Theon. You're getting a lot of "Theon is shit, but no one deserves this" reactions. I don't think you could get this response without seeing much of what happens to him. The pity people feel for him will only strengthen his ADWD arc.

Robb is already married.

I thought they would make him annul it or something.
I think it makes the RW a little less fucked up if Robb isn't the groom. Killing the guy on his wedding day when he's marrying some dull Frey and leaving his love behind for honour was a double kick in the balls, it's so deliciously tragic

Was he not married to The Lannister girl in the book?

Regarding your spoiler, did you mean a longer period of time than you originally stated? I already feel like they're rushing it with him. If
He's Reek for the next two seasons, or fully transformed by the end of this season
what the hell do they do with him for the next season or two?

ASOS
Robb is married to Talisa and Jeyne, he doesn't give that up. He attends Edmure's wedding as the King, but the only one getting married to a Frey is Edmure.

On the show it seems that Robb is taking Talisa with him to the wedding. In the book he left his wife behind as to not offend Lord Frey, but that's it.

The Moat Cailin arc, no doubt.

Question. In some shots it looked like they had put makeup over a bruise or something on Emilia Clark's cheek (I think its her left) did something happen or just bad makeup?

I'm a bit confused as to what you are asking. ASOS:
In the books Robb is married to Jeyne Westerling, breaking the vow he made to wed Walder Frey's daughter. This pissed off Frey, so as a compromise they decide to have Edmure marry a Frey daughter. This marriage is the Red Wedding. Robb was never going to annul his marriage or anything. The only thing different about this scenario in the show is that Robb is married to Talysa instead of Jeyne, otherwise it's pretty much identical. The Red Wedding was never Robb's wedding, it was always Edmure's.

No, sorry. A few seconds of them maiming his foot (though it's covered, so you don't actually see it), about 5 seconds of them flaying his PINKY FINGER, and SUGGESTING that they are castrating him are NOT torture porn. You act like these are scenes out of the Hostel movies or something. If you can't see that they're trying to make Theon sympathetic to viewers, and make Boy into someone the audience knows to hate*, then I don't know what else to say to you.

* ..and yes they do have to do that. When you have casual viewers asking if that's Podrick and why is he doing that to Theon, then yes.. they need to establish the character in this way.

Theon doesn't have to be in every episode. I don't enjoy watching torture--this is an example where some restraint would be appreciated. I don't need to see two naked girls for 5 minutes to understand that getting your dick removed is not a fun time.

Show him being tortured in one episode, then revisit him 5 episodes later. Imply that he's had finger and toes removed off screen, then have R cut off his dick. We can fill in the blanks.

I think we can discuss this here more properly. The other thread had a link saying that they were aiming for seven seasons. Do you think it's possible? They could snip a shitload of material from food descriptions and travel monologues - maybe move some of the starting scenes from AFFC/ADWD to S4 end, but I think it would still end up being an ugly crunch that would leave some or all plotlines to be very rushed.

That source is shit as they couldn't even spell the producer's name remotely correct.

The CG at the end of Episode 7 was incredible. It looked real to me damnit.

But outside of that, and daenerys' story.. the pacing has just gone to hell in the last couple of episodes. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast. The torture scenes are also overkill.

Exactly. I didn't mind the scenes so far but the point that he's being broken was made already. As much as I love to see Iwan Rheon acting this character, another long torture scene in the following episode(s) will be excessive and won't make for interesting television.

If you're referring to the bear that's because it was a real bear.

Yeah, you're definitely mis-remembering the books. [ASOS]
Robb doesn't have to marry anyone at the Twins, it's just Edmure like in the show

I thought Bart did a tremendous job.

I only saw the episode last night, and had already read some impressions that said he looked like he was pulling his punches. Wrong. Those people clearly didn't appreciate the subtle nuances of Bart's movements. He had the poise, the purpose, and the personality to pull it all off. Bart, if you are reading this, don't listen to the haters.
