Game on for Sony in Xbox's backyard

What people find useful moves every year. At one time HDMI wants needed, large HDD's weren't needed, HD Movie playback wasn't needed, wifi wasn't needed. Sony just has been ahead of what the consumer wanted.

And being way ahead of what the consumers wants isn't smart business especially when it jacks up your price. Analogies are never perfect but I'm sure we'd all love to have sports cars but if the price ain't right and the other cars do what I want then it's pretty useless for me. You can have a niche piece of the market and in fact even a very strong and profitable niche but is that what Sony really wants and expected with the PS3.

Doesn't this prove my point?

I thought you were referencing the failure rate of 360's.

the main problem is as good as Sony's new franchises are they just aren't strong enough or tempting for the majority of consumers to go for.

Also seeing as Third party games are in the big picture more important to most consumers buying choices you can see why most go for the 360 out of the 'HD' Consoles.

aaandd so we wait.... again!

Don't know why this kind of press is leaving some building. MAG should be fun, but this kind of press isn't good for sony.
Just let the games do the talking, or a new pricepoint and forget your PR sony.

Very true and I'd bet they learned a lesson only because of timing. If the global economic market didn't shutdown in the last year the expensive model might have done much better in the market.

But this global economic downturn will guarantee you won't see a new console on the market for 3+ years, and that will hurt the 360 with dvd drive big time. PS3 will hum along quite well for another 5 years if needed.

Not sure what exactly you're waiting for..nor exactly what this article says that's bad for MAG or Sony, even (asides from stating the obvious about its market position in NA).

They definitely are for Xbox 360 consumers. Hard to get excited for first-party games when you don't have any, right?

why not just make a "official ps3 is doomed" thread and put all sony related news in there? seems alot easier.

Such a tired 'meme'.:lol But saying that when they do get released for the 360 the userbase actually supports it...

And some care and money is spent on some quality advertising as well...:D

You're saying the PS3 is losing because it's reliable?

So you could also say.. people's problem with it is that it's too good.

No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that it's possible that people care more about purchasing a system on the cheap, even though has a high probability of repeatedly breaking, than getting a system that's more expensive, but also much more reliable.

He was refering to consumers as a whole. Sony's biggest problem with first party titles, with the exception of Uncharted, is they just lack a certain factor which would push a consumer to spend the extra cash and buy a PS3. Now you have to ask yourselves if the three titles mentioned are going to change this. Sony really needs a title like GT5 now, not Killzone or MAG, as good as those games may be.

Another problem Sony have is how far behind the PS3 is with community features. Private chat etc should have been there from launch and it is unexcusable to still not have it in 2009.

As far as I can see your and your brethren's first-party excitement is now reduced to seeking out news for first-party games on other platforms and coating them in assorted verbal diarrhea in an attempt to reduce their value. E.g. here you are again in a thread about Sony first-party games posting your "concerns" about the platforms health. What are you even doing here? Can't you enjoy your envy alone, for yourself, in the solace of your home? Tuck that Stoney Mason dude under your arm and get the fuck out already.

More ANGER!

I love it!

To a point, America doesn't like paying for quality.

You got a funny definition of quality.

Paying $500 for something that busts after 18 months and then cost $150 on top of that to fix.

Any claim that Sony = quality is dubious at best.

1) It's all good and well to joke on the "year of the PS3" stuff, but the fact is there really is a good amount of likely fuck awesome exclusives coming in the next year or so. That is great for Sony gamers.
2) It won't change the sales picture. It's already been well demonstrated that great games don't change the overall PS3 sales trend.

If trolling a game means you're jealous, what does trolling a whole console mean?

MAG should be interesting, still not sure how well it will work, but very interested. Sony has a good line-up this year, I think Microsoft will be able to counter some, but they won't announce with what until E3.

Pretty amazing (or sad) that such a harmless article managed to anger so many people.

Seriously..a very innocuous article. Just took one person not reading it or misreading it and throwing out a tired troll..I'm still waiting for someone to point out how the article is suggesting any of these games as 'game-changers' or 'wait-for' games.

I'm beginning to think that suggestion of a dedicated 'sony doom' thread, or heck, even a dedicated FORUM mightn't be a bad idea!

That article is just doing a spotlight in new games developed in Seattle and taking pride in the fact that the games are being developed locally in Washington State (not mentioned but Titan Studios which is currently developing Fat Princess is also in Seattle). (Fun fact, north of Washington, you have Slant Six for SCEA and south down in Oregon, you have Bend Studio, then you have all the California SCEA studios, lol SCEA is everywhere on the North American west coast! =O).

Who was coating anything in diarrhoea i was discussing the points that other people had brought up. Isn't that what a forum is for? All you've done in this thread is say "shut up" repeatedly and generally been an embarrassing ass.

If i was like ahaha Uncharted and Motorstorm are shit i could see your point, but i was saying that consumers looking at Sony's new franchises aren't biting in massive numbers no matter the quality of the actual games which are mostly good.

if you're so wrapped up and prickly in your loyalty's to what is at the end of the day a consumer electronic item then that's your problem.

Am I supposed to wait for something? I'm pretty busy enjoying the best 1st and 2nd Party Lineup evaaar. :) At least for me it's this way. MS and Nintendo don't come close this year or last year (although they have some great games too).

For being such a "useless" article I enjoyed reading it quite a bit. Didn't know that so many studios were clustered in the Seattle area -interesting. It is sad that it only needs one post by the system warriors to totally derail the whole thread...

NeoGAF: come for the pointless articles, stay for the bcn-ron meltdowns!

It was hardly a pointless article as it gave some new info on the games (assuming that it's accurate). MAG coming out this fall is new, as well as the info about SOE working on allowing PS3 and PC players to play together in The Agency (they previously said they wouldn't allow it).

Hmm...I use to pass by the Redmond offices, when I use to visit my ex-gf in Seattle. I should pay more attention down south and see what other gaming studios are near the vicinity.

Edit: MAG, can't wait to play this soon.

So it told us two things, one of which was rumored (MAG coming out this year) and the other has been a selling point of the game since its announcement (The Agency allowing cross-platform play). Great.

However, as an article about Seattle game studios, it offered no insight, was non-informative, and said absolutely nothing aside from "HEY HERE'S SOME STUDIOS SPONSORED BY SONY THAT WORK OUT OF MICROSOFT LAND!!! GAMES!!!" Interesting hook, terrible execution.

Most of these articles give you jackshit in the way of new info on games (which is what I care about, I couldn't care less about personal commentary on the industry) so i'm happy with those two nuggets of info.
