Games Industry: Developers are Being Told to not Expect Switch Sucessor to Launch This Fiscal Year (Q1 2025)

"..The second one is that no developer I've spoken to expects it to launch in this financial year, in fact they've been told not to expect it in this financial year. A bunch of people I spoke to hope it's out in April/May time still early next year not late.."

I think 8 years is reasonable when it's done so well, but Holiday 2025 is 8.5 years, as woopah said, leaving it a bit long maybe.

If the reason is to have 2 or 3 amazing games at launch rather than just 1 then I'm all for it though.

I still think it's first half 2025, they're just being coy. And the last thing they want is for people to not buy a Switch between now and Spring 2025 because they're holding out for new hardware.

No question the gap between unveiling and release will be the shortest gap ever for a Nintendo platform launch. Guaranteed.

They don’t need a long lead time.

Guess I'm buying a Switch Lite then

My Nintendo account got hacked/stolen a while back and I finally got it back. It took a lot to convince Nintendo I lost access. Luckily for me I found an e-mail with a product code I used. I'm so happy I've got it back, so many gamessss

Nintendo is dead to me until the Switch 2 is announced. Sony announce the Pro already …
The ask for a Pro PS5 still feels unnecessary to me. How many actual from-scratch current-gen games are not where they need to be visually or performance-wise? There barely are any still, for starters. I feel like the need for PS4 Pro was there and lots of people were looking for one. Is there the same demand at this point in the PS5 lifecycle for a Pro?

April 1st 2025.
Has to either be Mar, April, May or Sept, Oct, Nov. No one would release a brand new console before March, nor during the quiet summer months, nor after Black Friday. That's really it for their two windows of opportunity. And they still have plenty of time to hit that Spring/early summer window of April/May for sure.

They want to stay quiet as possible for the holiday season, if they start building excitement for the the thing now their sales would probably take a nose dive with people holding out for Switch 2.
It might all be fine, but there are risks when you wait too long to replace a once hot now much colder product with a successor because you waited too long. There is such a thing of waiting too long, Nintendo is stretching it… we might have a similarly priced Steam Deck 2 with newer features and possibly considerably higher performance… next year…

So no change, right? They promised the announcement sometime in this fiscal year, but did anyone expect a February or March launch?

With that said, I really will be disappointed if it slips into holiday 2025 though. May or may mot be in denial already. Lol.

By give me the games I want? As long as they release games I care about then I’m happy, that’s the reason I buy their system in the first place.
It's just not my appeal so I don't get it. But it seems so long to wait for a new console that plays more advanced games. But again, to each their own. I didn't like the way the console felt in my hand nor the library. But I'll concede that it's just more of a 'me' thing. So good luck with Switch 2, fam.

Waiting for Nintendo to complete with themselves is crazy lol

So you want them to erode their high profile third party library even further?

They are already hiring and needing porting studios to perform like magicians in order to bring games way above their means to the platform.

Regardless of all of this, the main reason I am excited about the day Switch 2 releases, whether 2025 or 2026, is because certain developers will be out of excuses when it comes to graphical quality and framerate.

Some of them have been riding on the lower end hardware as an excuse to why most of their games look like a PS360 game, for far too long. You know who they are. The clock is ticking.

If the games don’t appeal to you then it wouldn’t matter if Switch 2 comes out or not, you still not gonna liked the games.

I’m looking forward to Switch 2 whenever it comes but I’m not in all that hurry for it. I also have PS5, so have enough games from both systems to keep me busy.

Not necessarily true. Bayonetta and Zelda still call my name. I'd just like to play on a console I like. If Switch 2 is more to my liking I'd support it.

At this point, I'm starting to get worried that they are having some serious technical difficulties, problems sourcing the parts they need, and/or the new upper management have no idea what they're doing.
