Games Industry: Developers are Being Told to not Expect Switch Sucessor to Launch This Fiscal Year (Q1 2025)

Looking back, Nintendo hasn’t really stuck to Holiday season releases for their systems. I’m thinking the Switch 2 comes out in June 2025 and I’m wiling to bet this thing will have one of the fullest launch game libraries we’ve ever seen (both 1st and 3rd party).

Nintendo might show us a glimpse over the next couple months but I don’t think they will really start the hype train until January. A June release gives them a solid 6 months to build interest without screwing up their last Switch holiday season.

SCEI did with PlayStation 4 in Japan.
Q2 and Q3 CY 2025 just feels like hopium at this point, when was the last time a major console was released in any of these months?
That was a secondary territory launch after the US and EU rollout the prior holiday. Nintendo in the modern era wouldn’t roll out a platform in Japan early or late vs other major regions.

The ask for a Pro PS5 still feels unnecessary to me. How many actual from-scratch current-gen games are not where they need to be visually or performance-wise? There barely are any still, for starters. I feel like the need for PS4 Pro was there and lots of people were looking for one. Is there the same demand at this point in the PS5 lifecycle for a Pro?
So the launch of ps5 pro for the "high end" console fans that want and like better graphics is unnecessary... but a sequel to the switch a console wich fans say over and over and over that graphics dont matter is super necessary ? ... fuck it launch this thing in 2030.. graphics dont matter am I right ? ...

Well, your argument has some real problems. You’re conflating a mid-gen refresh with the same software library to a next-gen successor with orders of magnitude more horsepower than its predecessor (and who knows what new features/ input changes). So you’re whole approach is a non-starter.

So you want them to erode their high profile third party library even further?

They are already hiring and needing porting studios to perform like magicians in order to bring games way above their means to the platform.

Regardless of all of this, the main reason I am excited about the day Switch 2 releases, whether 2025 or 2026, is because certain developers will be out of excuses when it comes to graphical quality and framerate.

Some of them have been riding on the lower end hardware as an excuse to why most of their games look like a PS360 game, for far too long. You know who they are. The clock is ticking.
These type of games that need stronger hardware don't really sell too well on Nintendo platforms anyway. Nintendo isn't going to rush their hardware out to appease those devs

The cons of a reset for Nintendo is bigger than the pros in the 1st few years .
Higher manufacturing cost, Higher Development cost , Smaller user base , a chance of failure .

Why would they rush into this when they don't have to?

Nothing about this is a rush. If anything, they are stretching this system out as far as humanly possible.

Upgrading tech is an inevitability. People eventually move on to the next thing and trends change. Nintendo doesn’t want to be too far behind on it’s own trend that it started (hybrid consoles), so it will make a successor.

That’s too bad 🤷‍♂️

Nintendo will eventually update and the endless excuses on both the dev side and the gamer side will eventually have to cease. If that means some devs are forced to upgrade, then so be it. If that means some devs will settle into making bad-looking games (Pokemon company), then the next console will be the gen where everyone will accept and see that they are simply a mediocre developer.

With Switch 2, the excuses. are. over.

Oof, the Switch 2 is still far off at this point. I may as well stop thinking about it until they announce it.

One area of concern is that the longer they wait the further they will be behind technically. Newer games will still suffer and have downgrades because all the new titles are being built with ray tracing etc which won’t be doable on switch 2x
.

However the biggest issue could be if Sony wants to swing hard and releases the pro at the current ps5 price point and drops the standard ps5 digital with a 64gb had for like 349.99 it would ensure a very high sell rate for the next year and might put more pressure on Nintendo with there system being so far technically behind and about the same price point.

Sony would be taking a loss but it might just lock down this generation with a bold move.

I think we'll know the release date for the new Nintendo console at the same time as they announce the date for Metroid Prime 4.
That game has to be day and date for the new console, just like Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess was, right?
I'll be damned if I have to buy a Switch to play a stripped down version of that game day 1..

I don't think Sony is of concern to Nintendo. I also don't see games coming out which are that advance from the PS4 era, but could be just my untechi eye.

Switch 2 is DOA, my kids don't even touch the switch anymore, Switch emulators are so good and i can emulate the switch on the ROG Ally and run games at better framerates and resolution, what's the point of it, it's going to be severely underpowered.

It's Japan, though, we're not talking about South Korea here. And anyway, bolded was not what I meant; PS4 and 3DS are just two examples of a console launch before March.

I honestly don’t think Switch 2 will come out until the Switch sales are almost nonexistent. Maybe Fall 2025 is a possibility and that’s probably at the earliest imo. Waiting can be a dangerous game to play though because you don’t want to release Switch 2 when the PS6 rumors start up. Nah, they wouldn’t wait that long for Switch 2, would they?

Switch 1 hardware and software sales already in death throes and Switch 2 SOC is literally going to be half a decade old by the time this shit bucket releases. Nintendo never disappoints at disappointing.

I remember when I got laughed at last year for saying there's no way in hell it's coming out this year.

Don't expect it to release until holiday 2025, earliest.

End of year leaks, late Jan/early Feb reveal, launch mid to end of April. Nothing solid until after the holidays so they don't spook people during the return window.

Stop it
You know damn well I been spot on
You were too vague to be 'spot on'. I'm not sure why you want bragging rights for predicting "as long as sotware sells, a few more years" in 2023. Anybody could have told you Nintendo would try and ride Switch for as long as it can. Even I did that earlier than you did:

Nintendo will prolong the Switch for as long as it can. I will guess tail end of 2024/5 is when they might consider a revision.

This whole Saga really is becoming too fucking tiresome, even by Nintendo standards and that's really saying something considering my general view that the company is run by a bunch of greedy corporate cunts hiding behind a Disney level facade.

If Sony is really releasing a PS5 Pro this Christmas I can see Nintendo delaying the Switch 2 till April and May. No point competing with marketing and mind share over the Christmas period, just sit back build up stock and release it when the inevitable PS5 Pro shortages/scalping is still in full effect.
