just playing the 2019 game Eastshade from quite a while now, and i'm loving its slow paced mechanic and beautiful world;
a lot of hours spent in just wandering around and looking.
I think only Morrowind world reached to grab me in the same way back then

what are your favorite ones?

Games like Skyrim, the recent Oblivion remaster really scratched this itch.
Came to post this. I don't even like Skyrim but managed to beat the damn game thanks to it's combo of pretty and comfy autumn vistas with Soule's music that just fits it like a glove.

Red Dead Redemption 2 for nature, Cyberpunk for city. Thers many other games that do this well either with beautifull vistas, or great artstyle, even procedural generated stuff like in No Man Sky had this effect in some of the planets.

That game looks interesting and I see it actually came out for Xbox One and PS4 as well. For such a game I had hoped it would have been enhanced for One X and PS4 Pro as well. It doesn't seem to be the case, so my guess is a 900p resolution for Xbox probably, sadly.

Oh hold on, I did play this. Watching the trailer I immediately recognized it.

Considering the developer for Eastshade is an artist from Sucker punch Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei are the easy recommendations. He is likely responsible for some of those beautiful worlds.

AC Shadows
AC Valhalla
AC Origins
AC Unity (We need a remaster like yesterday)
(really any AC, their team does an amazing job with those environments )
RDR2 (I love the rain effects of that game)
Yakuza 6
The Last Of Us 2
Fallout series
Elder Scrolls series (especially with the amazing music, it helps set the tone)
Mafia 1 remake
Mafia 3

Even though it's not an open-world with lots of landscape, I personally found the levels in Bioshock Infinite fun to roam around in, and see all the cool world design.

Also, I'm just a sucker for floating island worlds in the clouds, wish more games did them.

played this with my wife years ago, she loves artsy walking sims

My verdict: world was very nice to wander in, but character design and dialogue and voices were absolutely atrocious, made me mad they were so terrible. Ignore the characters though, and the world is nice.

BOTW and TOTK for sure, especially with the switch 2 upgrade.

Full locations I enjoy being in:

Yharnam in Bloodborne
Exploring Nosgoth in LOK
Greenvale in Deadly Premonition
Rapture in BioShock
Sinnoh Region in Gen 4 Pokemon
Liberty City in GTA4

Specific places that feel like home when I go back to them:

Treno & Lindblum in FF9
Citadel in Mass Effect
Clock Town in Majoras' Mask
Rexs' hometown Fonsett in Xenoblade 2
Inside the Yggdrasil in Xenogears

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
World of Warcraft
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Fallout 3
Fallout 4
Fallout New Vegas
Dishonored
Dishonored 2
Stellar Blade

I've been gaming my whole life, but I rarely get that deep sense of immersion anymore. Funny enough, when I was a kid, it happened more often, especially with 2D games rather than 3D ones. Hyper-realistic graphics just make me think, "I can see this in real life, just skip to the gameplay."
