What games do you play for engagement and fun.
I've enjoyed and still enjoy many many games from many many genres, except for most Nintendo exclusives (aside from some older Mario/Pokemon games and the 3D Zeldas) and most strategy games.

These are the games I played in 2024; 12 games in 1 year thread. I played Expedition 33(GOTY), Destiny 2(still playing), Blue Prince and Atomfall recently.

If you ask why I bought a Switch, it was because I needed a portable gaming console and wanted to play popular 3D Zelda titles, then I found a good deal. I'm fairly satisfied with the console itself, but I regret the money I spent on the exclusives.

After the discussion here, I played Metroid Samus Returns. I got about halfway through, but I started feeling bored again and ended up quitting. I'm thinking of trying Pokemon Emerald soon — I liked the first and second generations, but the newer games didn't really interest me. Never tried Xenoblade, but its not looking interesting, maybe someday though.

Nintendo games are nice and all, but honestly, I feel like a lot of them wouldn't score higher than 75–80 if they came from another company with different mascots. I don't get why reviewers always give them special treatment. Super Lucky's Tale(especially the "new" one) wasn't a bad game — if Mario had been in it, it would've easily scored 85-90. Same with Yooka-Laylee. I don't trust reviews about Nintendo games anymore. I didn't buy Mario Wonders for starters(Mtc 92? wtf?).

I don't know why i just cant get into zelda, I've yet to complete one of them, near enough completing links awakening so will pick it up again in the futre.

i have switch 2 breath of wild but not touched it. I think the top down ones are enjoyable maybe cause they're short n sweet.

Never really been into open world games as much, to much going on and i dont game all the time.

Zelda isn't even the one I like the most. I'll get a Switch 2 if they announce things like Metroid 2D, Mario maker 2D, punch out, fzero, Star Fox, maybe more 3rd parties like a deadly premonition 3.

I'd want all those over Zelda. Especially the modern style releases.

Of course.
Zelda, Mario and Metroid are as good as it gets.
I've never gotten into Pokemon, put off by the embarrassing technical shambles that Gamefreak lazily shit out.
Animal Crossing - mega cute but not my thing.
Pikmin and Platoon are brilliant.
Xenoblade are fantastic JRPGs
Donkey Kong Bananza is an utter blast so far.
Luigi's Mansion , Mario Kart, Fire Emblem...there's a lot to like.

Have next to zero history with Nintendo, but....

I just finished BoTW last month and it was amazing
Finished Donkey Kong Banaza a few days ago. Also great
There isn't much I care for as far as Mario goes. Played some Odyssey, 64, Wonder and Galaxy. None of them really jelled with me.

That's about it. I'm looking forward to trying more with Switch 2

I haven't got a Switch 2 yet but will probably get one later once more games arrive.

I enjoy the co-op experiences the most like Mario Kart and Mario Party.

I am so sick of Mario and company. And Zelda is not much better. I was thinking these last two games would be interesting, but they look like a grindy mess. So my last hope was Metroid, and that is never going to turn into the game I want it to be. I was hoping for a proper FPS where I can hop around planets in my ship and enemies do not respawn if I leave an area and come back. Nintendo wants to update, yet still mimic the classic games. So you could say Nintendo never grew up when I did. I think after all this time, I should stop holding out hope that Nintendo will make a game I am interested in.

Yes, but I stopped caring about Zelda with the direction they went in BotW. If they go back to 3D Zelda like it was in Ocarina and Majora, I'll come back.

I enjoy Mario games. I am enjoying DK Bananza. I am getting into Kirby.

Yes. Mario and Donkey Kong are more important to me now than Zelda (I loved both of those franchises already). BOTW/TOTK have a lot to love but they changed the formula too much IMO and now I'm just less interested in that franchise.

Sometimes I don't even like Zelda. It's not always been a hit with me.

Nintendo doesn't impress as much as they did during the 64 era. They can't.

The one thing I feel a lack of is those smaller franchises and games they used to pump out on their handheld devices. But the move to one-platform Switch has killed a lot of that, sadly.

I want those $30-40 experiments again like Pushmo or Flipnote Studio or Puzzle League and Pinball World games; I want more quirky entries in the Wario Land series; I want polished 16-bit-revival remakes like Zero Mission; I want weird spinoffs like Wario Ware DIY or the story of Mario Golf Advance. And so on.

I'd much rather have a ton of those smaller scale ideas and spinoffs than have 2-3 AAAA games every year. We lost something in the decision to end having a separate handheld console geared specifically towards bite sized gaming.

Cowards won't release a new Golden Sun, or a worthy Star Fox N64 successor.

Like many, I respect the Switch Zelda's, happy they did well and tried new things. But I prefer 2D Zelda's like Link to the Past. So many great franchises that deserved new entries.

Star Tropics and Earth Bound deserve modern entries.

I'm at the point where the only Nintendo IP I care about are Kirby, Animal Crossing, Xeno RPG series and the occasional Mario RPG (Paper or otherwise)

I'm done with most of their IP and have moved on.
