Games you remember, names you don't

I'm trying to remember 2d game for pc that came out around the year 2000, it featured robots/androids, you could choose between one with long range and one with a sword and you could get upgrades. I remember the box had something about scientists developing this technology and testing it on themselves and that there was a stage in which they either drove a car or turned into a car which felt impossible for me as a kid.

What kind of 2D game though? Platformer, brawler, sidescrolling, top down or isometric, maybe something about the visual style (japanese/anime, western, hand drawn, pre-rendered 3D etc.)?

Yeah sorry, i thought i mentioned that it was a sidescrolling action. The artstyle i think was hand-drawn but i can't remember for sure.

I mean, it kinda sounds like a Megaman X game, but I'm guessing that's not it. Can't really remember anything else fitting that description right now.

I have one for you guys.

Polygonal "tank" game (first person I believe) on the PC. probably from sometime in the 90s? Possibly earlier. The only other thing I half-remember was this character reminiscent of "Jafar" from the Disney Aladdin cartoon (at least that's how I remember it) would appear when you got a game over.

EDIT: I might be confusing two games here, but I'm not sure.

Sounds like Iron Blood, though that was 1996.

Dont know how to really specify this but I remember seeing a thread on here last year I think and it had a bullet hell where you switched between over the shoulder and top down gameplay instantly. Think it was a kickstarter thread and it was for pc.

Sounds kinda like Astebreed:

There was a math edutainment game I played in elementary school (freshman in college now, so 12, 13 years ago maybe?). It was a game themed around teaching kids math, and I remember it had different mini games. The only one I can remember was a guy running around on a 2D plane shooting asteroids coming from the sky. I think the asteroids MIGHT have had fractions on them, but that might be a stretch.

This isn't a game I don't remember the name of, this was originally for the "Guess the (game) image" thread, but nobody answered. So I know exactly what game and version of the game this is from.

A most-hated enemy:

Fear his sudden appearance!

What is that from ? :)

Actually I don't remember the game at all, or maybe never even saw it. But there was this poster in my neighbours bedroom with a green severed foot with a sneering face in a desert? It might have even had sunglasses.
I'm quite sure it was for a game, this was in C64 era. I remember being super freaked out by the poster.

Kinda sounds like Weird Dreams.

Need some help here. A game released for Ps3 and maybe 360, it was ported to the pc years later. The protagonist is a woman with red hair and had a guy who tagged along. It's sort of this action adventure, I think they were on another planet or some strange looking things were roaming. I think it was released on the pc like 1 or 2 years ago. Greatly appreciated it.

Nope. It's going to be difficult, perhaps.

Here's a couple more pics, with a bit more visual information to go by.

I am trying to remember a game that was released on PC I think in the early 90s, it's sort of like Resident Evil but your character wields a sword and fights weird monsters. The main thing about this game is that the characters where rendered with spherical polygons with different sizes on pre-rendered backgrounds if I remember correctly. I think they made a sequel too. The name was funky and didn't mean anything, something like toxica or whatever...

Edit: I found it; Ecstatica!

Might as well toss it out here if anyone has any ideas. I remember a game I had but could never get into due to slow PC at the time. It was around 1996-1998. It at least looked very similar to Heroes of Might and Magic 2 with similar castles/heroes but took place in a sort of wasteland (might been the race) and the starting hero was riding on some flying beast/dragon.

Disciples? Was it 3d or 2d?

I've got one that's been driving me crazy for too long now, so hopefully the collective GAF knowledge can please help me out:

- Its a late 90s/early 00s PC hack n slash with isometric graphics and realistic colour palette. I remember the castle dungeon area being orange due to all the torches.

- 3D graphics (probably pre rendered)

- Multiple characters to play as (Dwarf and Mage at least) Dwarf had a hammer and smashed enemies to pieces, so it was gory.

- Played kinda like somewhat more involved Gauntlet or Diablo as far as I remember.

- I swear it was called Myth or had that in its name, but have had no luck searching for that.

- It wasn't a roguelike or anything like that, as the levels were set.

Annoyingly that's all I can really remember and have described about 50% of PC games from those days. I just need some suggestions to look for and I'll know it when I see it! D=

Darkstone?

Old game boy game

- Fighting game

- Has robots of some sorts fighting. It's not Medabots however, that much I remember.

I never owned the game but played it a lot at my friend's place.

I saw this game in a magazine when I was a kid and I can't remember anything but the screenshots.

It was a PS1 game, it was inside a castle and iirc, it was vampire themed (not SoTN!) and 2D. For some reason everytime I remember of this game I think of SNES's Nosferatu.

Legacy of Kain series? Blood Omen starts out in a grey stone crypt.

I've got a couple of ideas from wildly different years, so let's see if it's any of these:

The Immortal

Darklands

Legend / Four Crystals of Trazere (But see also the sequel, Worlds of Legend / Son of the Empire)

Shadowlands

Druid: Daemons of the Mind

Sacred

Titan Quest

As you can probably guess, I wasn't quite sure what era you were talking about; if you can say roughly when it's from, that'll help.

Shit, sorry, thought I'd put it down: I'd say late 90s/early 00s.

There was a dwarf with a warhammer, and the game was gory.

Unfortunately none of those again (but will probably check a few of them out anyways)

EDIT: Added that info to the original post just in case.

I'm assuming at this stage that it's not simply Myth: The Fallen Lords. That's an RTS, so it's probably not what you're referring to, but I'd be remiss if I didn't at least suggest it!

The gore intrigues me, oddly enough - in that if it had that much of an impact, I'd expect it to be a sprite-based game; at the turn of the millennium I don't recall polygonal gore looking much cop, to be honest. That'd lead to the 3D being more likely to be (as you suspected) prerendered stuff.

Edit: Actually, latching on to the 'Myth', I wonder if it might be the modern (well, comparatively!) sequel to Pool of Radiance, "Ruins of Myth Drannor":

Edit2: I don't know if there's a dwarf in there, I don't know if it's very gory, but Darkstone:

is very orange.

It likely was sprite based. Possibly pre rendered 3D sprites like DKC.

It definitely had too good a lighting for early 00s polygonal stuff.

And already wrote off Darkstone as I remember that game well and love it. =)

Ok I think I've found it, Mageslayer?
Rather than isometric it's straight top down like the first gta games, but everything else fits, including the hammer smashing dwarf.

OH MY GOD THATS IT! I was more right than I thought! 3D pre rendered AND polygonal graphics, and a dwarf with a hammer!

Thank you Graphics Horse, will get hold of it immediately!

And thanks to everyone else for some awesome suggestions I'll be looking into too. =)

I wonder if anyone knows this one.

Probably 90's point and click game where the puzzles were a bit weird. One puzzle required you to funnel some kind of acid down a mummy's throat to get a key or something.

I never have played the game myself, and above is only thiing I remember from the review.

Doubt anyone would know this because I remember so little about it but there was a platformer for the snes where you played a guy who was dressed all in green. I think the dimensions of the character were fairly realistic (he didn't have a giant head or anything like many other games at the time). Also the game might have had a kind of scifi theme, maybe the character would have been shrunken for a few levels.

I'm not sure of any of these details but the game has been popping into my head every now and then for the last few years and I would quite like to know if any of these memories are real.

Shadowgate? It had a mummy you burnt to get a sceptre.

Holy shit I think this is it.

I kept coming up with stuff like "Spectre" on Google but even the name Stellar 7 sounds a bit familiar. Techno-Jafar is keeping it real.

Thanks man. I don't know how anyone found anything using my insane-person description but kudos to you!

Ok, I have a bottom-of-the-page request.

  • PC title, likely DOS or Windows 3.1 era (1993/1994?)
  • I believe the interface was largely static - you would select menu options
  • Largely black and white
  • May have had "13" or something in the name
  • Was a game about subterfuge. I believe your character worked for a shadow division of the government and the goal was to take down other countries
