Gamescom 2013: Your predictions

Reading a lot of posts in this thread I wonder if many of you realize that Gamescom is not E3.
It's a convention specifically about *games* like the name suggests.
It doesn't gravitate entirely around Sony's and Microsoft's conferences.

This is literally one if not the most significant Gamescoms ever as two consoles are competing to release later this holiday. TGS is far too eastern focused to matter whilst Gamescom is essentially a mecca for Western international press presence. You can be for damn sure the buzz will be Sony/Microsoft and there games man. This is the last major stop before release and they're going to fight till the bitter end for our wallets.

I've got to agree. This is the last big shot to drum up excitement outside of personal marketing campaigns. (Which I'm sure will be crazy, but generally uninteresting.) If either has any bullets left in their guns, Gamescom has got to be the time to fire.

More-so hopes than predictions:

Sony:
Release announced around Oct 29th to coincide with Battlefield, Assassin's Creed
Show off a few unannounced PS4 titles, both new IP and sequels to Uncharted, LBP
Revive a classic series
Put the amazing looking Puppeteer in the limelight.
Further herald the Vita as the indie platform

Microsoft:
Release announced around Nov 5th to coincide with CoD.
Do or say something stupid again.

Sony:
Another AAA launch/launch window game revealed
More stuff on KZ:SF, Knack, and Driveclub, nothing on the Order.
Demos for the various indie games i.e Outlast and transistor.
More info on Gaikai stuff and PSN features.

MS:
Another AAA launch/launch window game revealed
More Titanfall, Ryse, Forza and maybe DR3 demo but in crazy mode. Nothing on Halo.
More indie game announcements.
Some more Kinect and XBL stuff.

I predict that 2/3s of the 15 PS4 unannounced games will be revealed to be indie games and many of them already on or announced for PC/iOS. SonyBros will orgasm at the news. Vita will take a huge back seat and reveal a couple of indies from Scadinavia to which Sony will say "wait til we get to TGS, that'll be Extra Vita Olive Oil sauce all over the show" since E3 had to be about launch price and launch games and Gamescom had to be about PS4 "launch window" games and accessories.

Microsoft will confirm a game we kinda knew about (more screens of new Halo or announcing a new Gears) yet they will try to sell it to us as an amazing announcement/heavenly revelation. Probably will announce like 15 new music and video apps specific to Europe.

Nintendo will have more Pikmin 3, more Mario and Luigi and their only revelation probably a booth with W101 demo and a mini version of their E3 booth with happy fun Nintendo times. Nothing new to really see there.

Besides the obvious (release dates for X1 & PS4 and various gameplays for games announced at E3), I'm expecting Santa Monica's new IP as the highlight.

Sony:

- Second coming of Christ: December in Europe, Early-Mid November in US,
"early 2014" in Australia
- New modes for announced games shown
- Vita gets almost no mention apart from PS4 connectivity - just like at E3 Sony
lets down all Vita fans
- pays GT6 and Beyond very little attention, never mentions Last Guardian

Microsoft:

- XO Release date: November Worldwide release
- New IP shown, new OS features, nothing too exciting
- Indie program detailed officially, a couple new indie games at launch
- new free to play title announced

I predict that 2/3s of the 15 PS4 unannounced games will be revealed to be indie games and many of them already on or announced for PC/iOS.

Wow, I wasn't aware Sony Worldwide Studios had fallen so far that they're working on indie games and PC/iOS games!!!

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Gamescom isn't about Games in General. It's about Interactive Entertainment, and of course this means first and foremost Video Games (Consoles and PC) and Mobile Gaming.
Board Games and other stuff is (was that what you meant with *games*?) presented at the Toy Fair in Nürnberg for example not at Gamescom.

The Order is already confirmed to be there.

Sony:
Vita price drop
PS4/Vita bundle
New IP

Microsoft:
Black Tusk game
Another new IP
Info on XBL
Premiere trailer for the next DLC for Black Ops 2
Ryse multiplayer unveiling

Worldwide Studios could be 'publishing' these titles. I doubt that first party are developing all of them.

You're wrong. SCE publishes titles. Worldwide Studios has no role whatsoever in publishing.

And of course not all of them are developed by first-party, The Order : 1886 is already one such example. ( mainly developed by RAD, with only support from Sony Santa Monica )

If the rumoured LBP3 by Sumo Digital is true then it is also surely counted in as well, as XDev would normally be involved in such co-development titles.

You're reading it as if 'WWS is developing 20 games to be released by 2014.' That's wrong.

It's more like 'WWS is working on part of those 20 titles, and some of those are just WWS playing a supervising/producing role with 3rd-parties, like what happened with Journey, LBPKarting, LBPVita, Starhawk, Warhawk, WKC, etc'

The above games I've mentioned were all developed by 3rd-party studios, but WWS is often included in the credits as well for whatever minimal role they played.

But even then, any SCE-published titles... are exclusives, and Sony rarely ever publishes 'indie-ish' titles, unless you count Journey as an indie.
3 people as headcount plus access to SSM audio resources wouldn't count as just publishing though. That's a significant amount of the team based on the small team size for Journey.

Sony:

Vita massive price drop (bundles at $179, bare w/memory card for $159)
Vita+PS4=$500 bundle
New vita titles (including GT6)
PS4 2014 titles shown
Indie stuff

Microsoft:

Kinect-less bundle for euroland revealed, not available in states
Indie stuff
Show off fifa exclusive content
Crysis 4 teaser
Perfect Dark -1

Both of them announce release dates.

But it's not like SSM sacrificed any of their actual core game development resources to 'support' Journey.

Even while they're supporting Journey, their ability to simultaneously develop two AAA-title was not diminished, just as supporting RAD on 'The Order' doesn't somehow slow down their progress on their next-gen IP.

This allows 'SSM' to be credited towards the 'development' of 3-4 games, even if they only actually make 2 games.

Omega Boost 2 announced as a PS4 launch title, comes bundled with every system. Polyphony has been working on it in secret for over 3 years. 1080p@60fps.

iOS and PC devs have no reason to go through SCE or WWS for ports of their games. They'd just self publish like all the many other indies we already know about. Sony has a huge network of first and second party studios working on games. They have zero need to pad their numbers like that.

As a prediction: I would be shocked if there are less than 4 new PS4 games announced by Sony at Gamescom. There will probably be at least 4 more at TGS, too. And that will leave them with something like 7 to announce at the VGAs and E3 next year.

I think this has quite high chance to be true.
And it seems like a very smart move from Sony, looking at the price MS is going for with the XB1.

It has to go hand-in-hand with the feasibility of a vita price cut (a big one at that). Otherwise that is a huge loss for every bundle sold

It's an SKU nightmare and will never happen so long as they need as many solo PS4 units as possible at launch and during launch window in as many stores as they can.

Maybe later though.

Vita price drop
Drop 4gb card
Announce 64gb card at current 32gb price and shift other cards down
Some unknown Vita games from the likes of Bend
Maybe footage of Dead Nation on Vita
Hopefully more games

PS4 release date as late October or very early November in the US and EU
Maybe some SKU news
The Order gameplay
Media Molecule game
Little Big Planet 3 is either PS3/4/V or two of those, not one platform
More about the OS
Finally see a game the uses the Eye
2 unknown game titles
Something about the Super Stardust spiritual successor
Nothing from ND
Montage
PS+ news about % increase but no hard number
No PS4 Vita bundle

MS talking about the Fifa deal
Xbone release date first 2 weeks of November in the US and EU
Some link up with some European cable/satellite box for HDMI in
2 new games
Unprecedented value

Nobody mentions Japan

But it's not like SSM sacrificed any of their actual core game development resources to 'support' Journey.
My point was that they didn't just act as a publisher with the usual publisher roles, like Q&A but they actually helped development.

GAF will close down due to traffic.... Oh where talking about company predictions :P

This . I was surprised gaf stayed up as much as it did during e3 ... Come on mssony megatons to crash gaf plz .... And no Nintendo I have no hope for gaf crashing megatons from you :)

I think Sony will look to further re-enforce their message:

AAA Games
- 1 new AAA launch exclusive announced
- 2-3 new AAA year one exclusives announced
- A couple of multiplats announced coming to PS4. GTA5 & Batman maybe
- Order 1866 Gameplay
- New gameplay, single and multi of games shown so far
- Exclusive content and timed exclusive DLC from select third parties

F2P Games/Indie
- Planetside 2 footage
- Everquest Next announcement
- Arma/Day Z console project (wishful thinking)
- More indie games

Misc
- Launch date
- PS4/Vita bundle
- More info on specs and dev kits
- More info on services
- New game announcements from third party studios using next gen engines such as UE4, bringing games to both consoles.

I'd also like to see some more stuff on Witcher 3, Dragon's Age Inquisition and Lords Of The Fallen.

- LittleBigPlanet 3 not made by Media Molecule, will be F2P and more like Minecraft
- Both consoles will have release dates announced
- Microsoft announces Rare Project 2 and Crackdown 3
- Another Dead Island game will be announced, not the moba game
- Microsoft will fail to clarify that a lot of the TV features will work in Europe and confusion will continue to be present about what the machine can actually do

New Uncharted for PS4.....Mark my words!

Sounds like one of two potential candidate for the VGAs, the other one being the next Santa Monica IP.
For this coming Gamescom, I suspect we will see whatever Media Molecule is working on, a new trailer for the order, the next Housemarque game and a couple of indies.

Sony:
PSVita restyle with price-drop
PS3 price drop
PS4 release date
New games for PS4 and Vita

Microsoft:
Xbox One SKU without Kinect a 379$/379€/329£
Xbox One new games

Would be super surprised at a non indie aaa launch title for ps4 ... But def can see some 2014 titles plus details on destiny exclusive content being announced

here is my list:

PS4 release date in mid October for US and end of October for EU.
A new Naughty dog game.
a couple of new titles for PS4 will be shown.

Sony:

2 new exclusive Ps4 titles
2 new exclusive PsVita titles

I really don't what they can do other than tell us again about all the stuff we already know about.

Release date for PS4 and Xbone announced
The Last Guardian release date announced
PS4 + Vita bundle announced for $499
Vita $50 price drop
God of War IV announcement

That's all I got.

Ah, yes! Sony will disappoint, I'm sure of it. They will have a good conference, but they will come short of meeting the unattainable expectations of many, many internet users...Of that I'm certain. The argument of the 20 IPs being worked on that gets thrown around might backfire rapidly, as logic dictates that most of those titles would end up being small games anyway. I doubt Sony has the manpower to handle such a significant number of projects simultaneously...
