Kojima's new independent studio when he makes one is going to be bought by Nintendo and his MGS spiritual successor will be a mobile exclusive.

Many of the big Japanese pubs are run by glorified tax accountants and arcade managers. They are bloated, festering entities. Cancerous, essentially. It's no surprise some of these companies have come to be in the state that they're in.

I do wonder, will the big pubs absorb all the little ones and become huge IP hogs like Disney and WB? Or will they crash and burn, with new smaller companies rising from the ashes?

I think the Fox engine is tied to Kojima Productions... Kojima Productions will more than likely be bought out by Kojima (investors) or a bigger parent company.

Isn't Kojima Productions a wholly owned subisdary of Konami?

Geez, why the sad faces people?

This is a good thing, the man needed to move on. Imagine what he can do with a new IP? As for Metal Gear, the series needed a reboot anyways.

Im ok with Kojima moving on... can any of his older IPs resurface from this?

The part im absolutely Heartbroken over is Silent Hills... Del Toro was on board because of Kojima. He will be out now unless Konami wins him over some how... but without Kojima i bet it wont be what it could have been... Kojima's mind was a big part of that game's formula...

Does Kojima get to take his engine with him? What happens to Silent Hills, and would Konami even dare to continue Metal Gear without Kojima? This is fucking sad.

Konami basically own pretty everything Kojima has done in his entire video game career. This is a sad reality about working under a big corporation. You pour your hearth into your works for decades but in the end all of your hard works go into the company and you end up with nothing just like when you started.

Worried for Silent Hills now. MGSV should be safe, right?

But screw Konami. The only thing they still had going gamingwise was basically everything Kojima-related.

I pray to god Konami does not royally fuck up MG if Kojima leaves. Like they screwed up Castlevania, Silent Hill and PES.

I hope the later. EA's killing fields has me scared of big publisher's acquiring everything.

He wasn't kidding about it being his last Metal Gear game this time. Wish the best for him (and I look forward to whatever he ends up doing next), and I'll be truly disappointed if this means the death of a Kojima-led Silent Hills game.

Aaaww maaan! So we truly will get a MGS swan song from Kojima with V...

I hope he does a project with each of the big 3:
  • A collaboration with Miyamoto or a handheld Metroid
  • Something with Naughty Dog
  • Maybe a Halo spin off?

This man is far too talented to be tied to one place once again. Boktai showed what innovation he can bring to other genres and I would love to see him experiment with other genres than stealth.
He mastered it with MGS3 and he should have the freedom to do that to another genre too,

It's Konami's. It's used for Pro Evo, and I'm sure it would be used elsewhere if Konami was in the business of making games.

It's Konami's because they own Kojima Production. If they sell Kojima Production it is no longer Konami's. They will make more money by selling it than letting it rot.

Kojima + Naughty Dog. DO IT.

I'm sure of that, yeah. But it might have to be some kind of licensing agreement with another publisher, because it's being used on Pro Evo.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what Kojima and his team can produce out on their own, without the spectre of Metal Gear constantly hanging over them. May end up being a blessing in disguise.

Rebranding past work to remove traces of his name/studio just feels petty though, even if it's part of restructuring at Konami it doesn't sit well considering the larger story that's unfolding. If a bad breakup ends up significantly impacting the legacy of an important franchise in gaming history it would be a shame.

Chances are that it's going to rot though as nobody is going to buy it because after-purchase support for the engine will be pisspoor as most of the talent is going to be gone.

Those two are managers. Now if you say Druck and Straley. I think Kojima would be listening more than doing the talking.

I hope you're joking. Druckmann is a writer and Straley has never done anything creative regarding gameplay. They take gameplay mechanics from other games like Gears of War and Tomb Raider.

Kojima on the other hand has always been incredibly creative with gameplay mechanics and boss battles: pretty much creating the sneakin/infiltration genre, The End boss fight, Psycho Mantis fight. I could make a whole list. ND has no one like that.

My point is in general I really don't think Kojima would really want or need their input. Game design wise and overall concept wise Naughty Dog has never made anything all that inspired in a long time. Nothing "wrong" with what they do but when your output is third person regen health AAA shooters and a third person AAA shooter that basically takes every big AAA game elements to make a super friendly zombie post apocalypse game, I don't think the guy who made MGS is really going to be all that tuned in.

Also smh at anyone saying MGS needs a reboot. What it's needed for a long time is a final fuckin entry. It's gotten to the point where people don't even care about what the gameplay is, it's the IP name that matters. As a big fan of MGS, MGS5 has literally nothing that looks interesting to me at this point. It's just not the stealth series it once was.

Also, you Metal Gear fans think you have it bad? Try being a fan of this Konami series and get back to me!

We seemed to be making such great progress with Suikoden I and II rereleased. What does this reorganisation mean for the future? I can't imagine it's good.

I wonder how many publishers are knocking on Kojima's door this very second. Shuhei Yoshida & Phil Spencer must be trying to kill each other right now to set up the new Kojima Productions.

But most likely, he'll just go independent.

Kojima likes assassin's creed. Right? I would love to see Kojima's take on AC.

...but I would rather see him doing anything else.

Someone will accuse me of putting too much weight on Kojima for the Metal Gear series, after all I'd know better than most how much of a team project making a game is. But I always felt it was his vision and any project post MGSV, that won't have his name attached, well frankly I'm not touching it with a barge pole.

Is there even the talent left at the company to hope to try? I genuinely don't know who else they have left at this point since almost everyone is gone. I wouldn't be surprised to see the IP go dormant after V unless Konami sell the rights.
