It was actually just two games (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey). The 3rd Mistwalker 360 game that got cancelled (Cry-On) was 100% 3rd party.

Thanks for the clarification, i have the feeling that the third game would've been funded if LO was a huge hit, tho, but we'll never know :p

I want in on this Kojima revolution.

Honestly even if Silent Hills is cancelled I hope he just does whatever he wanted to do with it. Just rename it something else, the ip name doesn't matter as far as I'm concerned.

True, although I was hoping it would be the modern day rebirth ala FFXV.

Is there a way for Sony or someone else to somehow step in and save silent hills and then employ kojima to work on the project?

Microsoft did not buy Mistwalker, they just signed a deal for 3 exclusive games (the last one was cancelled), and the two games they released were made by two different developers, Mistwalker was just "directing" these devs.

I'd be happy if Sony hired Kojima and his devs to make Sony Japan strong again.

Keiichiro Toyama made the original Silent Hill when he was at Konami and then he moved to SCE Japan where he has been ever since. He was basically why we have the Siren series from Sony. That and I absolutely love Gravity Rush.

I would definitely be interested if Sony could get Toyama, Kojima and Guillermo del Toro to work together on the new Silent Hills game, even if Konami owns the Silent Hill franchise.

Konami would own all assets, not just the name. He'd have to assemble a team and rebuild the game from the ground up.

You may jest but who would have envisioned Michel Ancel setting up a new studio with Sony to make a PS4 exclusive?

Microsoft have the deep pockets but Sony's Playstation developer portfolio must be an extremely attractive asset to have when luring developers.....,

All this is providing that Kojima doesn't go to EA of course.

Sony would probably love to give Kojima the liberty he wants. And now that he's free from MGS, people will probably flock to wherever he goes.

He probably is the most recognized director in gaming. Publishers would love to have a game with his name.

Problem is, all the work (planning, assets, coding, etc.) that has been already done for Silent Hills belongs to the IP holder, in this case Konami. They'd have to start from scratch and without Fox Engine, to make matters worse.

I figure if Konami really want that project to go somewhere they'll just hand it to someone else, forgoing Kojima and Del Toro's original vision. It's all looking pretty dismal.

I seriously doubt a whole lot of work has been done on it as is tbh. I'm sure someone else is willing to work with him on it, hell I bet Sony would jump at the chance to get a Kojima exclusive. My point is I want a Kojima done horror game.

Someone please Kojima My avatar please!

10 minutes. Not my best time, but here you go:

Tell me if you want me to take away the slight transparency. The last two I've made have had that, but I'm not sure how to just make the black part transparent yet, so if it needs changing let me know.

Holy shit. This is like Miyamoto leaving Nintendo.

I'm 41 and I've seen a lot of shit go down in this industry, now with Konami being a shell of its former self, just incredible. SE, Capcom, Sega and now Konami, my youth is systematically being destroyed. I'll always have the 80's and the 90's to look back upon with fond memories.

I sincerely doubt any real work has begun on Silent Hills (Kojima is too busy with MGSV). If he wanted to restart the project under a different name and engine I doubt it would be an issue.

Meaning you want an avatar? I'm taking a 10 minute-ish break, so if you are willing to wait, I'll do it.

edit:

He loves Metal Gear. Why would he be happy?

This, even if he was hurt by Kojima, I don't think he's happy that he's being sacked. Although, if we look past the surface of the matter, Hayter could be happy for Kojima to be free to work on something other than Metal Gear. Still, the manner of way they dropped Kojima is somewhat similar to what happened to Hayter, so it is ever so slightly ironic, if sad.

If you're Sony you get on the phone and offer him a studio with whoever he brings. Once that's done. You tell him to make whatever the hell he wants.

I don't think that'd work, the people of that studio might not like how Kojima does things and how he directs, they might just not like him, the best way is to give him free pass to hire anyone he wants in a newly formed studio, imo.

Edit: I just realized i was reading the quote inside your post and i retyped what you just said, sorry.

It's happening and it's bad. It started IMO with my fav company rare so long ago, ea swallowing bio ware and now Nintendo is entering the mobile phones market. IMO the games industry is slowly getting worse.

The more I think about this, the angrier I get. You can tell that Kojima and his team are terribly proud of what they've achieved building the Fox Engine and that's a really strong tool they'd be losing as well. Konami will squander it. It's all very frustrating.

This probably means Silent Hills is fucked, but if Del Toro's still in on it, there might still be hope. That's only half of the dream, but part of the dream nevertheless. We might lose some of the commentary and mind-boggling script but presumptively the project may maintain the gnarly, truly scary design elements brought to the table by Del Toro. Let's not write it off just yet, but then again, it wouldn't be entirely out of character for Konami to can the project altogether, would it? Then again, with the success of P.T. and all of the time and money they've likely already invested in it, it'd be extremely illogical for them to scrap it.

Lol it's cool. But yea that's what they gotta do. Give him and his team a studio and funding and just let them create.

This is a good thing imo. Now he will have the freedom to create whatever he likes. People will buy regardless. I am certain KojimaGAF has already drawn similar correlations to Inafune at Capcom. Best case scenario we get something akin to that.

Besides he has been working at and with Konami for over 20 years now. It's time.

I imagine Microsoft is probably going make the hardest push. They would get Japanese credibility (not that it matters much) and a developer who not only sells shitloads of games but can also help develop their own internal engines.

I don't think he would. He seems pretty pro Japanese, especially since the Fox Engine runs like butter on Sony hardware.

Pretty much, but the good news is all those games from the 80s and 90s still exist. I think I'm going to try to get into a retro gaming once I get some of my debt paid down. We are going to be like the pinball guys in a few years. The sad thing is that kids growing up will never know what the game industry was like when there were tons of publishers and Japan was firing on all cylinders.

I'm on a roll. Though I will be taking a quick break after these two.
(edit, lol beaten, I'll get to work on MrMatt555's though)

And here it is.

I agree that whoever offers him a deal needs to do so with an offer for everyone else as well. Kojima can't be Kojima without his team, and those people will be left out in the cold by Konami otherwise.

Thank you so much! Will add immegiately!

Yep, totally. That's the smart play Sony needs to make and pitch to their shareholders: "So yeah we're gonna spend a couple hundred million dollars to give this eccentric Japanese auteur his own studio and tell him to do whatever he wants, since that is a proven strategy for timely ROI given our work with other eccentric Japanese auteur types like Fumito Ueda and Kazunori Yamauchi."
