Oh, no doubt about that. But I'm just saying that he probably didn't want to become a CEO if he chose such a low scale job as head of the indie initiative
Oh yeah you're absolutely right. My guess is with how big things were getting he decided to take a less stressful position. We should all hope our careers end that way lol

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Hulst Derangement Syndrome (HDS) is truly a thing, huh. You guys really need to stop with that, he was the one who ultimately approved Sony's involvement in the project. Almost as dumb as the "he had nothing to do with Astro Bot!!!!" copium back in September.
I think Hulst is great and should make a great CEO & President of Playstation Studios
I just don't think he has been so far.

Feel however you want, but seeing small narratives being created and getting pushed is *very* annoying.
That's exactly how we recently got a garbage thread full of stupid fear of Sony pushing DEI, woke whatever on From Software. Literally imposible to discuss.

Weird timing.

I wonder if acquiring Kadokawa has anything to do with this? If it’s assuredly going through Sony may decide that all their studios effectively accomplish the role Shu had and so he’s left without a position or further funding

End of an era indeed.

He's one of the few gaming industry people that I still follow on Twitter because he hasn't lost his mind. Looking forward to see where he lands next.

Well, the reports suggesting that Sony may acquire Kadokawa appear to have some credibility after all.

But not retiring.

Wow. What a run he had.

People on X lack reading comprehension it seems
I have a couple of events to visit. The Game Awards are in December. I have commitments to the Taipei Game Show in January and DICE Summit in February, because I’m on the board… so that I’ll continue to do. But other than that, I have no plan. I enjoy my free time… I would like to continue to help indie developers or indie publishers if they need me. So I’ll probably continue to help these creative, talented indie teams in the future.
If anything, this interview clears any drama possible. Shu had a great run for 31 years in the same company and now basically retiring and keeping his indie hobby at his own pace, without the insane shedule of being a top manager at the biggest gaming company in the world.

This whole interview is not only very respectful and friendly, but 100% drama-free. Shu deserved some rest, it was a legendary run.

SID: You’ve been with Sony Interactive for so long. What’s guiding the decision and the timing?

SHU: I’ve been with PlayStation from the beginning, and this is my 31st year with PlayStation. And when I hit 30 years, I was thinking, hmm, it may be about time for me to move on. You know, the company’s been doing great. I love PS5, I love the games that are coming out on this platform. And we have new generations of management who I respect and admire. And I’m so excited for the future of PlayStation.

So you know, PlayStation is in really good hands. I thought, okay, this is my time.

I remember a video where he was playing Bloodborne in a dark room, he was already good :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Throughout his 30 years people in the industry people have nothing put praise for this man and that says a lot.
I wish him good health and to enjoy his retirement. Thank you

What a legend.

It'll be funny if he joins Xbox and leads Xbox Japan. What a story that would be.

The betrayal would be like that USA Phone commercial guy who did commercials for Verizon for 9 years and then joined Sprint. 😂

Hopefully his successor will be another charismatic Japanese man of culture. It better not be another Hermen who's gonna put Aloy everywhere

An absolute legend, sad news for Sony. Strange to see a Japanese man leave a company not for retirement though, especially after so long.
