Shuhei Yoshida to leave PlayStation after 31 years

Yes, I do? Every contribution matters, but you literally don't need him for anything else regarding the future of the series and Sony's involvement in it. It all went out of his hands once PlayStation Studios (Hermen Hulst-led division) became involved in the production of Stellar Blade.
The point is Hulst would not even start the approaching to Shift Up and he will not in the future either. That's why Yoshida is missed.

That is so sad. I hope it is the woke agenda heads from the west are the one who retire or resigns. Sony PS needs more Japanese leadership.

Putting it that way, maybe if we find out later that PS Indies will no longer be a thing, otherwise it's speculation without anything to support it.
Also:

Which meant that it was no longer an indie game. Sony not only funded it, they produced AND published it, there's nothing indie about that. It's a whole PlayStation Studios project, and that's out of Shu's reach.
Again, no need to debunk anything, it's simple common sense.

Yeah no shit it’s speculation, that’s why I said “I wonder if”. Same thing applies to Jim Ryan.

You don't know bolded, but I'm pretty sure the set of SIE producers who worked in Stellar Blade (Edward Saito, Kazuma Kizuka and Junho Lee) will be happy to do so.

That gif was only half way up my phone screen when I stopped scrolling. Thought he was playing Stellar Blade for the first time.

Hell of a legacy. All the best.

There has been comments over the last few years about how he was "pushed out" of his role as president of WWS. The answer he gives at the end of that transcript should hopefully put that to rest

SID: How did you get your way into your current role as Head of Indies Initiative at Sony Interactive?
[...]
However, when I went to events like E3 or Gamescom, I always went to the indie game area. And I found games that I liked, and oftentimes the developer was there showcasing it. So I’d take a photo with the developer, trying to help promote these games.

That’s what I was doing almost as a hobby when I was managing PlayStation Studios. So when I got this job where I could spend 100% of my time helping indies, it was like a dream job.

Thank you for good leadership and Stellar blade. We will miss you. Happy retirement. So sad especially Sony Ps this days needs more Japanese leadership instead of the woke west leadership.

SID: Happy to have you, we’re going to do a lot of catching up. But I heard you had some news for us here today?

SHU: Yes, I have an announcement to make. I’m leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15 2025… it’s like announcing the launch date of a new game, [something] I haven’t done for a long time [laughs].

Good luck to a legend and hopefully a little well deserved rest.

To be honest, I'm a bit teary eyed. He was a good leader which what Sony PS needed, and even help Stellar blade development. I hope and pray that he will have a happy retirement.

Man, Yoshida is a legend and it’s sad to see him go. He does deserve a nice retirement though, that’s for sure.

It is kind of an end to an era though. All the people who made PlayStation great have basically left.

This man is and always will be the heart of PlayStation studios. I remember being a sneak press fuck lurker on these boards. and All the best quotes, memes and jokes during the ps3 to ps4 era of Sony. he was just having a blast and enjoyed being part of the gaming community and industry in general. he deserves way better than just being reduced to overseeing indie initiative at Sony, if anyone who deserves to be a CEO it was 100% him and should been him than Herman hulst imo.

Is Cerny the only one left from the start of the PS4 era?

House, Tretton, Ryan, Layden, Boyes and now Yoshida. I know Hirai retired during that period, but he didn’t really have much to do with the gaming side of things then.

His potential's being wasted at Sony handling indie stuffs. Great to see him moving on
He wanted to be there, I remember reading about him wanting to leave but indies reignited his passion for the game industry so he stayed

This is a sad day, man was great at his job even if he was totally wrong about Demon's Souls success and couldn't see the beginning of the "souls genre"

Now, who's gonna replace him? Some arsehole from Guerrilla wanting to force Horizon into fking everything? 🤦‍♂️

Nishino is much more important than most of these, so no, not only Cerny.

And you see people here wanting him to be CEO, when the old fella most likely never wanted that.

There's still Scott Rohde overseeing their most prominent NA first-party studios.
Isn't he head of global internal production? Pretty sure SIE got rid of the regional President structure at each WWS branch a while back.

Would have crushed his soul to order studio cuts etc in the CEO role.
Sadly, he was probably involved to some degree in such decisions when Sony closed some studios during his tenure. No strong feelings, though!

I don't know. From stories about him, he was definitely not a coddler. He had no problems making hard decisions. Seems like he was a jolly guy with fans and the press and a "get shit done" executives. He's probably a big reason why the standard for first party games are so high at Playstation.

Lord of Edge.
The man has worked at PlayStation longer than I have been alive lmao. Huge loss for the Asian side of the Sony business and gaming in general if he is not sticking around in the industry.

Not surprising. The less you saw of him, the worse Sony's output seemed to get, IMO. It seemed like Sony had been giving him the window office treatment since 2019. Sad.

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
No! he should be CEO 😕
Now remember despite it not being his job anymore, he went and secured Stellar Blade while Hermen Hulst was too busy with Concord.

Oh, no doubt about that. But I'm just saying that he probably didn't want to become a CEO if he chose such a low scale job as head of the indie initiative

So long fella. You help lead one of the best brands in the entertainment industry thats been apart of my life since a child. Good luck to what ever it is you choose to do next.

Well, that sucks. He was the last from that era when they were in their prime. I'm going to miss him and his goofy self... and Sony from those days

You're right, I had not taken notice of his promotion to the highest spheres of PS Studios, years ago.

Hulst Derangement Syndrome (HDS) is truly a thing, huh. You guys really need to stop with that, he was the one who ultimately approved Sony's involvement in the project. Almost as dumb as the "he had nothing to do with Astro Bot!!!!" copium back in September.
