This ad tells no lies, actually. On Gamespot, the reviews ARE the ads. Clearly, they are telling us that with their downwards pointing arrows into the featured reviews section. Conclusion: Umm, yeah, unless they are pointing to the black spot, they pulled a Freudian slip here - it costs money to run a site, but on a journalism site, integrity is key:

Actually, if you have Flash installed, an ad appears in that BIG, WIDE OPEN SPACE where it says "Advertisement." But I'm glad a gaming website is taking another to task on editorial integrity. I'm sure the traffic this needless criticism will generate will make their advertisers very happy.

Gamespot is a sinking ship.

Agreed.

I've only recently been checking their reviews and they're invariably devoid of any real opinion. They'll spend most of the text explaining storylines when, frankly, that's all largely irrelevant. There seems to be no critical value in what they deliver...

Yeah, I hate reviews that focus on explaining how the game unfolds without giving any sort of useful opinion or criticism. That's why for 90% of IGN reviews I simply skip to the "closing comments" and the categorised scoring, since any of the important points they buried in the bulk of the review are mentioned again in that conclusion.
