This was fun to watch, I really enjoyed that. It reminds me of me and my friends bickering. I can think of so many titles that I think are dog shit, but my friends will swear up and down that it's a quality game. I C U DESTINY.

Wow. Kyle Bosman's arguments against these games sound like he's been told to disagree with the stupidest fucking arguments. Seriously, is this a comedy sketch?

Fun video, though the anti-TLOU guy was super irritating. Reminds me of a friend who immediately dismisses any game that dares to try to tell a story. When he did the whole "I don't need a game to spoon-feed me story!" my eyes almost rolled out of my head.

People are taking Kyle Bosman seriously? He's clearly, clearly not attempting anything approaching a serious argument. There's scraps of logic mixed in there, but mostly the dude is just doing his schtick.

Yeah his sincereness is slightly questionable.
Definitely. Don't get me wrong, I think these guys are great, but c'mon. I don't dismiss someone's opinion who's different than mine, but it's really hard not to with stuff that silly sounding "All these freaks in masks! Woooo! I'm supposed to fight them for 8 hours?" Uhhh.

The GT crew just blows my mind in terms of personalities. Can't believe hoe much i like these guys. Love em!

Their E3 coverage this past year was so great...I've rewatched the Sony press conference and Nintendo one a couple of times. Just love their enthusiasm and passion, etc. Sad to see Elyse go.

He's mentioned before that he's not a fan of a link to the past and he bashed bioshock in the past for the same reasons mentioned in the video.

He's been pretty consistent on his anti-'savage psychopaths in masks' stance. I think that regardless of that, though, his other issues with the game are just as legitimate for someone looking for a... I dunno, 'diegetically sound' game world. Everyone's trying to kill you! There are steam powered helicopters that are better than 2016 drones because videogames! Hacking is water tubes because videogames! If you ever watch any of their streams, he really does like the weird little stuff that connects a game world together.

Then there's the whole story stuff, which is debatable on a Stanley Parable-level, but I can totally understand the reflexive antagonism towards the slobbering over Bioshock's narrative. And I really, really, really loved The Stanley Parable.

I don't agree with the Link to the Past stuff, but I'm not gonna say that he's not allowed to be turned off by Link growing up confined to his uncle's house as opposed to an island or his tree village or whatever else there is for Zelda.

Best part of the video, by the way --

"So, when you say Knack doesn't grow... come on."

A few more drinks and I'm gonna go in on Xenoblade Chronicles hard, don't worry.

They're the best gaming website out there, in my opinion. They blow Kotaku, Polygon, etc. out of the water. Great personalities and super fair opinions (Halo: MCC review aside).

Kyle has a lot of neuroses but you can tell when he's being serious about something, and I think he's serious here.

Kyle Bosman really enjoys context. Anything that doesn't have context in terms of level design and story or its context makes little to no sense is awful. Its why he loves Tropical Freeze and apparently hates LTTP.

Still love him though. I get it.

Of course it had to be Bosman. Though from the comments here, it seems that he was trolling (I won't watch the video so I can't know what he said).

He wasn't trolling he just values context above all else. His main complaint is lack of cohesion which is legitimate.

Bioshock's combat was horrible and the story was not gratifying and messy.

I agree wholeheartedly with Bosman: "The environment was wasted on this game."

Preach it brother.

I feel like Bosman played ALTTP for the first time AFTER playing others like OoT and TP for him to say the things he said.
That's what happened to me, and I'm not the biggest fan of LTTP either, or most of the 2D Zelda games I've played. I played LTTP for the first time on the GBA and enjoyed it, but I used a guide a lot of the time.

When I tried to play it again recently (before ALBW came out) without a guide I found it to be confusing at times. Like I knew where I needed to go but I didn't know how to get there. My favorite parts of Zelda games are exploring the world, and I don't get quite as great a sense of that from the 2D games (except the little bit hi played of Manish Cap, I need to get back to that one).

I want to get back to LTTP eventually but it wasn't able to immediately get into as easily as I had hoped.

I can see it with the dungeon, but as I indicate with my earlier rant, I don't agree with him being bothered by Link not going to Death Mountain as a 12-year-old kid

Or the Lost Woods

Or the Desert of Mystery (actually just bold it all, no one wants to go to a straightforward desert let alone a mysterious one)

Watched the last one. Maaan, just another reason to write off Ian Hinck. The black sheep of the GT crew right there.

And I can't believe someone out there is willing to defend Knack on-camera who's name isn't Hip-Hop Gamer.

I am a pretty big fan of Kyle and even I must admit that his LTTP argument makes little to no sense. I don't think he is able to accurately describe why he doesn't like the game.

The arguement against the Last of Us was poor at best. He said "Why is that a game? It offers no choice." Since when does a game need to offer a choice in the story in order to be considered a game? So Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy and many many other games aren't games because they offer no choice in their story? He says he doesn't care for the story of that "grizzled asshole" ??? What??? Is he even trying here?

The only thing I can accept is how the A.I. behaves and even that isn't clear. Naughty Dog had 2 choices either make the A.I. as it is now or make all enemies react to the A.I. which would make them 100 more annoying but it would be realistic I guess. He also says escort quests always suck even though Ellie needs 0 babysitting and she is probably the most usefull companion you will find in gaming. Also if escort quests suck so does Resident evil 4 right? Nope he is just wrong again. My god what a piss poor arguement.

edit: He says Resident Evil 4 is good later on which was also an escort game. This guy makes no sense.

Okay, I have to skip to the Link to the Past section.

Especially since it's my favorite Zelda game (or at least tied with Link's Awakening)... what have you done, Bosman?

Kyle Bosman...

YOU USED TO BE SUCH A GOOD GUY!!!

Even though when it comes to Bioshock he's 100% percent right.

Ian is so edgy.

His argument on how The Last of Us being a game that should have offered choice yet didn't I can kind of get.

So many things Joel did just had me going like, "wut."

The ending, so fucking bad. One girl, to save humanity? Nope, let's execute the best researchers/doctors left in the country and kill the leader of the fireflies. Cus like, father and daughter relationship amirite?

So dumb. I liked the game because of it's technical accomplishments and it's gameplay. If there was ever a game that could have benefited from a choice system it would have been TLoU.

This is all on point. How is it exactly considered a legitimate criticism to say the game offers no choice. So? I'd much prefer a linear, well-told narrative over something like Life is Strange, The Walking Dead or Beyond: Two Souls, which are games that practically pride themselves on the various choices the player can make, but guess what, none of them effectively alter the outcome apart from the very last one or two right at the end. He complains it's not the player's choice but Joel's choice. Well yeah, how is that a bad thing? There were some of Joel's actions I didn't agree with during the course of the game, particularly towards the end, but you're not supposed to agree with everything he does. I was invested in him as a character and I was hooked by the story, so when he did something morally questionable, I felt conflicted and a sense of unease. That's a good thing! Just because you're playing as Joel doesn't mean YOU ARE Joel.

The whole A.I. partner thing. As much nitpicking as that is, it is an unfortunate flaw in the game that Ellie will sometimes run around in plain sight of an enemy and not be detected, but what was the alternative? To have the A.I. trip off the alarms as soon as she is seen? Can you imagine how much grief the game would've gotten for that if the player had to suffer because of the incompetence of the A.I.? We'd never hear the fucking end of it. The devs settled on the best case scenario here, unless people just wanted Ellie to hang back the whole time and have Joel go at the stealth sequences solo, but that would've made for a far less dynamic experience.

I like it. Argue that a game is super immersive and intense, then deem "irrelevant" any issues that directly break immersion and tension.

AI is one element of gaming that has slowly advanced. So the potential for Ellie to run out when you're with a group of Clickers would always be there. And that would frustrate the hell out of players. So they chose what I think many would agree is the lesser issue of the two. Yes it might not be realistic, but it doesn't insert unnecessary frustration into the mix.

Human beings do irrational things sort of the whole point of tlou's ending. No shit it's dumb for Joel to do that but it isn't out of character and fits the themes that the game is going for.

Kyle Bosman is like a grown up child star trying to shake off his wholesome image by doing terrible things.

I ain't mad, though.

His reasons are insane though. I mean, he should probably hate LBW, the Oracle games, Minish Cap and LA too. Hell I don't think he should like any of the Zelda games, but he says he's a big fan of the series? Incomprehensible.

It's just something that bothered me. I kept seeing the game unravel in a narrative direction in all the ways that I couldn't relate with it.

Still a great game though.

One of the big narrative drives of the game is also the world you live in and inhabit. A world that can possibly be fixed by extracting the cure out of Ellie. Joel and Ellie are constantly commenting about how the world used to be, and how terrible things currently are. And at the climax ending of the game, Joel is given an opportunity to finally restore the world to what it used to be, but instead goes ballistic Rambo style and murders everyone. Why, cus Joel's real daughter died in the beginning, and now a similarly aged girl gives him "the feels." Ok sure thing video game.

Unlike Ian I wouldn't say that "I didn't like the game." Because narrative is just an aspect of it and I enjoyed the gameplay.

Kyles great, used to work at Gametrailers, wish I did now because I would argue him to death over Bioshock. It's in my top 5 ever despite its flaws.

The whole point of the narrative is drawing attention to the fact that you do things unquestionly in a video game. Many people playing the game aren't even aware of it, and I'm not talking about "would you kindly?" Players generally wanted to help Atlas and kill Ryan. Yes, of course you are doing these things because you are given no other choice and "because its a video game" but its not about that. It's whether you are aware that's what's happening.

I still think it's genius, and what a beautiful world, sentient steam powered drones be damned.

Hmm that argument against link to the past actually made sense and turned my opinion around on that game. Kyle was right. Huh

I can appreciate the criticism of the dungeons

And the graphics

But I cannot get over the fact that Bosman takes issue with the fact that Link doesn't go to a place that NPCs in the game describe as super dangerous, where people have gone to and never come back from

I only ever watched the video to see what kind of case could possibly be made against A Link to the Past. Like they knew I would.
