What console generation did you have your kids in? I just found out I'm about to have a girl last week so I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Also did you stop in that generation and pick it up later or did you keep continuing to game with kids?

My daughter was born during the tail-end 360/PS3 era. I remember doing the midnight launch for the PS4 a few months after she was born.

Freaking weird that it was that long ago already!

My daughter is 3, so this one. And no, didn't stop, just got Switch 2.

Definitely play less than I used to though (3+ hour Destiny raids are out), but can't wait for her to get old enough to play in a couple more years.

My boys were born 2015, 2017, 2019, so all in the thick of PS4 and Switch era.

I probably would've stopped if not for Switch, especially after our second came along (coincidentally the same time Switch released). Console quality games in handheld format was a life saver for a parent with babies / young kids.

It would have been the Xbox 360 PS3 era.. but I found this picture of my boy holding an Ouya controller.. hate all you want but I had that thing customized to do everything I
wanted a little box on my TV to do.

Same here.

Switch 2 and Portal and dad machines. Also Mario Kart with auto accelerate/steering is a great way to introduce console gaming to them.

Be careful showing people a picture of your kid playing an Ouya. You don't want them to call child protective services on you.

My first daughter was 2005, number 2 in 2010.
I never stopped playing, l started playing in 83 and it has been the one constant hobby that I've never put down.
Both the girls play, but not the titles I do. Eldest is currently cracked out on Stardew and youngest plays mostly multiplayer Minecraft n Roblox crap with friends.

Had a daughter during the late PS4 days. Didn't really stop. Just gradually slowed down.

You'll have a lot of free time during the first little while, but I'd suggest you spend that actually helping out with things your wife normally does because as tired as you're going to be, she's going to be even more exhausted.

Then she'll be old enough to crawl around by herself and look at stuff. And you're going to be tempted to game while she's doing that. Play with her instead. Her brain and eyes will thank you.

Before you know it, she'll be 7, you'll be playing co-op games and getting her addicted to Minecraft :pie_invert:

My baby boy came with me to Tokyo for the PS3 launch where we saw Kutaragi and Phil Harrison. He really bonded with the Wii though. He still plays MKWii custom tracks now in his second year at university.

Tbh I've been slowing down a bit and if I do game it's either fighting games or like multiplayer game like Rivals or Call of duty. Also as of recently Mecha break. Last story driven game I beat was FF7 Rebirth and that was around when it launched. Only time I'll probably game is if she's sleeping and the chores and stuff around the house is done and I actually have free time if it's permitted.

Congrats on being a dad mate.

My kids were born in the era of RROD 360. Both a blessing and a curse. Halo and faulty hardware.

My kid first played on a Dreamcast because of a racing game. Then I got him a PS3 and PS4, and now he has a Switch Lite. But we primarily play on whatever he feels like as my game room is his game room.

N64, I'm done.

Also, congrations for the birth of your newborn. Life shall never be the same and every breath you take will be filled with love and the thought that nothing will stop you from giving your child the future they deserve. Again, congrats on fatherhood, there is nothing that can hold a candle to it.

Thank you sir I'm excited and looking forward to it.

The best generation. She was born at the beginning of the 16-bit era. I never stopped playing games and she always had access to whatever was available. I would buy her things like the Sega Pico and Sega Nomad but she never really blossomed into a big gamer. She does play games but it has never been her main hobby. Same goes for the granddaughter. She likes having access and plaything them now and then but not a big interest.

Congratulations. I can't imagine a life without my daughter in it. My older brother had his daughter a year before I had mine. At that time, he told me I did not know love yet. I told him he was an idiot. A year later, I found out he was right. ❤️
