It's so hilarious-- centuries of religious folk telling gays they are awful, persecuting gay people for being gay, trying to beat or psychologically take the gay away... and then, when gay people are afforded the same rights as them? "Boo hoo, people call me a bigot and are mean to my beliefs, I am being persecuted for speaking for my religion!"

By the way, has the mantra of "We love the sinner, just hate the sin! It's okay to be gay, just don't have gay sex!" always been a position of the Church?

I assume not. I assume just being gay was seen as living sinfully. They've been slipping and moving the goalpost ever since, and they will continue to lose out. A significant number of professed Catholics under 30 support gay marriage.

That's been the Catholic thing as long as I can remember and I'm almost 37. My best friend was "confirmed" when I was 19 and she was told then the same thing - that gay people are fine being gay but they should be celibate. They're not allowed to have sex because any sex outside of marriage is wrong and gay people can't get married (in the eyes of God).

Hm, that's surprising. So throughout history, the notion has always been that being gay is okay? I figured it was a moving of the goalpost, considering society changed its treatment of gay people

Marriage seems to be an entirely different issue, but the actual state of being gay has been a-okay for Christians since... forever? What was the reasoning? That god chose them to be gay? That they were just sick?
 
Am I the only one who wants to meet these "gay friends"?

Personally, if you don't think I deserve the same rights as you because you "disagree" with who I am, then we aren't friends. Maybe I am being picky.

I laugh at the text salt but I cannot get myself to watch the videos, because, they make me cringe within 20 seconds and I have to click out. Besides, I don't want to give them clicks. The fact that he cannot understand that things change over time shows how he doesn't know how the world works. Everything changes and, unfortunately, these people insist on stagnating. I do not believe anyone can live like that. My views are always changing and I listen to the other side of everything, if they have logic, reasoning, and evidence. (Bible verses don't count as evidence).

I prefer to think of that word more in the way that Southpark used it in the Harley Davidson episode. It means people who are obnoxious douches for the sake of attention.

I really wish that was the official definition.

Forced to go gay? This screams closeted to me. When people tell me people can be converted to being gay or being gay is a choice I think they are projecting that they are actively suppressing their feelings about the same sex.

Yeah, people who claim it's a choice are also basically saying that they made the "correct" choice and that they have moral superiority because of that.
