Why can't you guys see?

This is the most offensive of everything I've seen. I'd reign fury on anyone who posted that,

Why can't you guys see?
The people that post garbage like this were also the same ones that kept posting the "If you made your Facebook pic rainbow then you were TRICKED!"

Also the same people that every time some issue of mass homophobia came up (for instance a few years when people had the "Chik-Fil-A appreciation day" to support the CEO's garbage homophobic contents) they would say "Shut up, stop talking about it, we are tired of hearing about it. Now I'm gonna go eat CFA nom nom nom"

One uncle of mine whom I was least connected to, but still had some good times with has said "I didn't realize you were so into video games and movies - I thought you were more of a real guy and just having some troubles getting a real job like construction or manufacturing. Instead you're a kind of liberal art government handout man child. I'm sad to see that. But you won't take my guns away from me and can keep those faggot friends of yours that you talk to on Facebook - keep that shit away from me and my family.

Ignorance was bliss, I guess. I could have just never known these people I love and care about were such closet assholes. I suppose I should thank social media for making me realize they are, but...honestly? I miss my uncles.
Holy shit, that's depressing. Your uncle is like a Rush Limbaugh caricature. It must suck to discover that someone you looked up to is actually a stupid asshole. :\ My condolences.

You can't beat these people, like you can't convince an Amish person to not shun their gay daughter. They're too brainwashed by years of isolation. Now that you have the internet, they're shocked to learn there are people who feel the opposite of them.

...Amish? ...Internet?

I... feel like there's a serious disconnect here.

They werent saying that Amish have the internet. The first sentence is comparing the Fundamentalist reaction to that of the Amish treating their gay children, in that they have no reason and its useless debating them. The third sentence is saying that the Fundamentalists have lived their entire lives in an echo chamber and now that they have the internet they are coming into conflict with the rest of American society.

If anything the internet makes the echo chambers worse. You can find your echo chamber of choice so easily and make it a part of your daily routine. Just follow 15 different pages on Facebook that share your own views.

The way those sentences are written, Amish is the direct modifier for Internet.

Also, Amish are different from most fundamentalists in that they just kinda ignore the fact that someone's gay instead of actively shunning it.

Sadly, I'm sick of seeing families get torn apart thanks to Facebook politics. Families that happily would have never shared their politics are suddenly attacking each other because "I saw you liked that liberal page" or "that meme you shared offended my personal beliefs".

Facebook didn't show up until I was 30. I grew up without a real dad but 5 or 6 strongly Republican uncles. They were my dads and I did everything with them. I rarely talked politics or religion. 30 years with maybe a few uncles of mine being like "what, you're atheist?" and laughing, shaking their head and saying I'll get over it and then forgetting it ever happened.

Now thanks to Facebook I've actually lost a lot of those relationships because they see me posting liberal images and they've become angry and pissed off that I would feel the way I do. Worried I'm going to "infect" their children, making their kids block me for example. I tried to find social outlets where I could be myself and maybe censor myself, but people keep fucking adding me. "WHY WON'T YOU ADD ME ON TWITTER". Well, because I'd like one social media outlet where I can actually be myself? Where people aren't going to judge me because I feel differently than they do? Where I can just rant and then read celebrity quips?

There one big good thing about all of this and you failed to mention it. It's like a giant filter for shitty people. Cutting ties with such people is better for you. You might not see it now, but you will at some point. You don't need them, and when you have a family of your own, you would be glad that this happened.

And if the motive for gay marriage is to make it easier for gay and lesbian couples to adopt children, or to access the powers of the state to bring children into the world through surrogacy or artificial insemination, then it is no longer about the love two people feel for each other, and more about wanting babies as lifestyle accessories.

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN GENERATIONS OF PEOPLE WHO WERE TOLD THEY COULDN'T HAVE KIDS UNTIL THEY WERE MARRIED

..."lifestyle accessories."

Well, this guy can go and take a long walk on a short jetty. How extraordinarily disgusting and disrespectful to same-sex parents and their children.

Just ignore him completely and direct a reply to your niece:

My dearest niece _______,

I know you were raised to think a certain way, but I hope that in time you learn to think for yourself and turn out to be more intelligent than my moronic brother. People in the future will look back on the ignorant people of today like they do those who opposed interracial marriage in the 1960s, or those who opposed women's right to vote in the 1920s. In the same way that being gay isn't a choice, neither is being born to dumb parents.

Sincerely,
vash2695
Both of these. A simple copy/pasta and you're on your way, vash!

I was laughing until I hit that part, after which I just had to step away from the computer for a bit to cool off. Fucking miserable piece of human garbage.

There are so many flawed arguments and statements in that article I actually think the author is close to brain dead.

Seriously.
Yup. Remindeds me of this kid I used to know who used to read the dictionary because, in his words " it doesn't matter if I am not that smart if I use bigger words than everyone else".

We used to laugh at how stupid he sounded filling his speech with technical filler that actually made him sound less intelligent than he already was.

Such a worse reason than a random genetic imperative made me, or, an invisible sky-man commanded me to procreate.

Entire Tennessee county clerk staff resigns over Supreme Court’s gay marriage decision

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...resigns-gay-marriage-ruling-article-1.2281567

No one was trying to get married.

And they didn't have back up jobs.
Kiiiiiinda funny, but it's definitely better than the clerks demanding that they don't have to issue licenses. That county already set an interim clerk and it seems like demand there is slow anyway.

Yeah, it's always astonishing to me how many opponents of same sex marriage don't realise this parallel:

The "gay people never procreate" argument is especially funny to me, because I have lesbian parents (and one of them is my biological mother).

*vanishes in a puff of logic*

I'm white, my wife is black, this has been my number one argument when it comes to shutting someone down when all they can spew is hate towards legalizing gay marriage. I am so sincerely happy that those 5 supreme court justices had the moral integrity to finally make at least one wrong right.

Update: No reply on Facebook and saw him at a family gathering on the 4th. Hung out like nothing happened. I seem to have won this one :)

I wonder if SSM hate will die down in like 30 years like interracial marriage hate did?

Yes. It will undoubtedly still exist in certain pockets of the country, just as it does for interracial relationships now, but it will no doubt get better. I do have to wonder how accepting this country will ever be though, as long as wack parents and religion continues to rule over the thought processes of so many.
